This is a fantastic glycerin shaving soap specially formulated and custom blended with the main ingredients carefully selected by shaving and male grooming specialist Ian Thomson at The Gentleman's Groom Room. This luxury traditional shaving soap produces an excellent lather when used with a shaving brush. It perfectly prepares the skin for a close and comfortable shave. The product is enriched with conditioning and moisturizing properties, which will ensure the perfect shave.
Essence of Scotland traditional shaving soap Highland Bothy is handmade in Scotland in small batches. The fragrance captures the scent of a welcoming Highland Bothy's peat open fire. Earthy, Smoky, Woody with a faint aroma of Single Malt Scotch Whisky perfectly describes this Essence of Scotland fragrance. Enriched and enhanced with Vetiver, Cedarwood, Mixed Spices, Natural Honey, Beeswax and Aberfeldy Single Malt Whisky, a totally unique shaving soap scent! The distinct scent of a roaring peat open fire has been loved by many a Scot over the years.
The Feather Popular DE razor is a economical and light-weight razor that offers a close and comfortable shave. The body is made of an attractive plastic and the silo doors are made of metal. This is a great starter razor for those interested in starting DE razor shaving. Case included.

Consistency is so important but seldom mentioned/valued in wet shaving. You have done everyone a favor with your video today. Thanks, Zac.

I have the Popular and have used it as a daily shaver for now 3 plus years. I thought I'd try it, but just kept right on using I liked it so much. I prefer to shave every day so my stubble is low. I take my time, it takes as long as it takes. I liken shaving to painting a portrait on your face. No hurries, just have fun ! Yes, the handle can be slippery in the shower, and I've dropped it a more than few times and it just keeps on keepin' on unscathed. The top butterfly part is stainless steel and I LOVE how it glides with ease over the skin. In contrast, I tried a Viking Chieftan but didn't like the draggy matte finish of the head at all. I felt like I was painting my face with coarse brush while what I wanted was something with a feather light touch. The short, stout and grippy handle was lovely though. This Popular just works and it's plas-tique handle will never rust or likely break without a hammer applied to it. I get where Matt is coming from, he is after all in the business of selling razors. I as customer, just want a proper shave am not interested in trying out every razor that catches my eye. These are tools, and like all tools I just want something that does the job, and that need not be expensive. If there were a durable, non-drop-fragile pot metal razor that wasn't a hundred or two bucks, and slick gliding head like the Popular, I'm all ears. I have yet to see it. The high $$ AS-D2 looks lovely, but I doubt it will shave any better. FWIW, I didn't find Feather blades anything special. Astra greens I liked better. then I tried Gillette Platinum, even better ! Then Nacet, oh my, the most comfortable I've used yet ! Likely about my only other consideration would be a Gillette Super Speed revamp.

Matt, always appreciate the videos and your honest approach. I'm 74 and have returned to wet shaving after 40 years trying to find a better way to shave. I enjoy the process and the result which is not BBS, but one that produces and looks great to my self and my wife. In the end, that's the most important.

I was the same way. When I stared I had one brush and one razor, merkur 34C, and 2-3 soaps I used for a good 2 and a half years. Boy that’s has definitely changed now when the hobby became the addiction!

It's nice to hear someone suggest a comfortable, repeatable shave over trying to get BBS every day. So many people on YT focus on BBS over comfort, but you are right: not everyone has skin that can handle that kind of shave I'm a daily basis.
I purchased a "Try It" kit for the straight edge after watching Matt's shaving video and love it. I called up the store the other day and Patrick was really helpful to a straight edge beginner like me. I'll be purchasing my razors and strips from RE in the future because the service is great. Thanks, and keep up the good work.

    Hello Matt,
It''s been a year this month, November, since I switched to DE shaving and one of the problems I had initially was finding a razor that I could use on my head. I felt that the heavy razors like my DE89 nearly always sliced a part of my head when I shaved with them. I found out that light razors, like the Vie-Long 10000r and the vintage Gillette Tech Aluminium Razor all worked better (on my head). Then I discovered the Feather Popular, (I own two) absolutely fantastic, this is the razor I nearly always use now, along with the Merkur Bakerlite 45. I also use any (twice-used) blade when I shave my head, which is usually every other day or sometimes on the third day. For me, converting to this way of shaving was always going to depend on the success of getting the right Razor to shave my head.
Good video, and thank you for reviewing the Feather Popular.
    Regards
    DRCharlesworth

I agree with you about the “utilitarian” aspect of wet shaving. Often, I kinda have to force myself to use all these fantastic products I’ve bought from soap, to splashes, to razors, when in reality I would be more than happy with a Red Tip or Super Adjustable, Arko stick, and my $9 boar brush. But, a chugging along we go. Cheers 👍🏻💈

Excellent video! The feather popular is an enjoyable inexpensive razor. Second only to the $7 Rapira platinum lux razor which is crazy efficient while causing no cuts. Of course, YMMV. Also, it may be too soon to say, but Matt may have made me a Polsilver convert... we will see.

Many well made points Matt regarding the fact BBS is fine once in a while, but 'Par' allows you to enjoy this hobby on a daily basis. By the way, I was in Ian's shop this afternoon where were talking about this video. I use the Malt and Myrtle, and it's beautiful too.

Completely agree. I just ordered a Vikings Blade Crusader razor delivered to my hotel in Las Vegas, since I didn't want to check a bag. And the only blades I could find (at a decent price) were some Walgreens blades. They don't have any markings, so I have no idea which ones are. The shave was ok but way harsher than my regular Platinum, that so far is my favorite blade. Definitively sharper does not mean better, or comfortable. It depends on everyone's skin.

$20 razors? That is a great price for people that are going to try out wet shaving and see if they like it.
Thanks for the video on this razor and I’m glad you didn’t massacre your neck with the Feather blade. I find them a little too sharp for me also.
I love shaving so I agree with you that par is good. I don’t want to have road rash on my neck after a shave and have to wait two or three day’s.
    Peace to you and yours.

Nice shave and review Matt💈💈 I've tried several "plastic" razors such as the Feather, just for variety, but always gravitate back to more precision made razors😉 Haven't tried this brand of soap, if it's remotely as good as another Scottish brand, namely Castle Forbes, I'm all in👌 Great video even if only one pass😊 Enjoy!

I like the feather blade. My favorite was the Gillette 7 o'clock but they aren't the same since they are made in russia. Thanks for noting that the handle is plastic. On a side note, I clean my handles in alcohol and the coating on my viking augustus is coming off. It's not a plating but some sort of polymer. I don't think it will affect the performance of the razor.

Great video, Matt! I could not LOVE (what you said about chasing BBS shaves) any more because I agree with that sentiment, completely. I too, have nothing against it, if your skin can handle it; then by all means go for it. Some gents over shave so much because they love it which is totally cool and really all that matters is being happy with your shave. However, in some cases they only shave once, or twice a week and don't mention it's more often than not for the fact that their skin can't handle more than that. I just go for a DFS every time with zero irritation and never chase BBS (I used to upon first transitioning to wet shaving). I shave at least 6 days a week, have thick, coarse beard hair (Sicilian) and always attain zero irritation, DFS. With a tiny nick even a very rare occurrence at this point. For me, it's not worth over shaving just to say I've achieved a BBS. I don't require aftershave splash, alum, witch hazel, thayers, then post shave balm and skin moisturizer post shave. Just cold water, then an aftershave splash and I'm good to go. No need to look like I've just left a pharmacy with all the men's grooming skin products, in order to help my skin recover from a shave. Which is why after wet shaving for a long time you find out the old adage YMMV really does come into play. I love wet shaving (DE, Single Edge, or Straight Razor), I got into it after my dermatologist at the time suggested it might alleviate my sensitive skin issues and razor burn from shaving (which it has). Now, I shave every day (yes, even while growing a beard), however irritation on my face is not something that I wish to attain, just so I could say I got a BBS. Sorry, this became a novella but I agree with you completely, super cool for the guys that enjoy it but I want close, zero irritation shaves every single time.

Thing is the scalp is more sensitive and if you were to get ingrown hairs your R screwed....how are you going to pluck em out???
