Of late I have been bouncing ideas off a friend by messaging. Today, from my own initiative, I proposed a TV series to a major TV company exec. No expectations (optimism or pessimism) - but my chance of success is infinitely greater than if the idea had merely come and gone in my head - which it most likely otherwise would have done. Sharing solidifies.
I first found you through the deep-dive interview you made with Ali Abdaal and you gave me a completely new perspective on how to deal with my own personal blog. Since then I've made some big changes to it, which I think will turn out for the better long-term. I'm definitely using you as an inspiration as I make my way down this weird path of creating content online and I'm so stoked you've decided to make a whole YT series about this topic!
Quite helpful. Thank you for making this video. Putting these points to work with my TH-cam channel and (soon to be) blog. Looking forward to watching the rest of the videos in the series.
Wow. i discovered ur blog in march this year n was completely blown away by your methodical guidance on how to start n grow a blog. Its almost impossible to contemplate that this universe needs another blog that. But i guess there is always room for good stories.
I have started my second blog very recently! Haven't earned a single penny with the first one, but you never know. Nat, thank you for the extra motivation!
Thanks for sharing Nat - humble suggestion for one of your future videos could be "the benefits of writing consistently" - basically talking about your initial experience of showing up everyday even when no one cared or read your blog.. i.e. the progress seemed almost invisible at first and maybe sharing your experience about what kept you moving forward or motivated you to keep sharing your creative work.. i think it'd also be useful for people who had started a blog in the past, wrote few articles and gave up! hearing from a blogging legend might inspire those people.
What great timing! I'm redesigning my website so that it's better for blogging and article writing and planning to have a newsletter out within the first half of November. So glad I'll be able to take advantage of your advice and guidance while I do that. Great job implementing the critiques you've gotten on your recent videos. It's great to see how quickly they've improved.
I've been consistently getting the message of late, from people I know as well as from YT presentations by various people I consider impressive - that "Two Years" is the definite period to achieve success (with the fun kind of perseverance).
Definitely depends on what you mean by success, one framework I've heard I really like is that it takes about 1,000 days of entrepreneurship to replace your full time salary.
Great video Nat. Thanks! You may have just pushed me over the edge to finally launch my own blog. I have been blogging for 10 months on Medium, as a tool to get better in English. I could never imagine how many great people I have met there, so I believe you when you say that creating a blog is more than just writing content to the void (even if it feels like it sometimes :)). Looking forward to your next video. Eliason - do you have any Scandinavian heritage?
Hey Nat, I'm a classmate of yours from Ali's course. Your editing game keeps getting better with every video! Keep up the valuable content. Video idea: document the elk hunt 😃
Great news. Your article about how it creates a blog is one of my favorites. One concern I have for now is in which language I should blog. I'm fluent in English and already write essays and articles in this language but not a native. Don't really know if I have to go local or international right now.
Amazing video! Super interested in seeing how you turn existing blog posts into youtube videos. I have been trying that for the past 3 videos and it seems to do well! 😁
Looking forward to this series as comes at a time when I'm just launching a blog about my journey into affiliate marketing from skeptic to hopefully believer.
OOFT. LOVED the chapters that came up at 0:53! I see them editing skills Nat! I just started Ali’s Skillshare FCPX class and am so excited about uploading my next video! Could you please share how you get sponsors for your email list? :) I’d love to do something similar in the future!
Hey Nat - I've really enjoyed watching your TH-cam videos, man. Your Roam Research course was also really good; took it and learned a lot. Keep it up; your channel is going to be blowing up very soon! ;)
Awesome content and production quality Nat! Good luck on this new video journey - you're going to rock it! I'm interested in setting up my blog - any recommendations for someone I can hire to set up the framework/infrastructure and email game (convertkit, etc) ? Thanks!
If you could do it over would you lead with your personal name for your website & domain, or with the main topic you are blogging about? Personal name looks better as a resume type, to attract readers it's likely the topic domain. Thoughts?
Nat, how are you making money with your blog? I visited your blog and I don't see any ads, product offers, or affiliate marketing....Im assuming your newsletter sponsors bring in some income but not all of it? and btw, how is your tea store doing?
Hey Richard, I share a lot about how it's monetized in this post: www.nateliason.com/blog/start-a-blog Tea store dream was ended by COVID unfortunately, not sure when the sit-in tea cafe model will be viable again.
@@nateliason Sorry to hear about your store. Ok, I read your page, how did you find out there were no Kegel Exercise apps? Or what did you use to see the supply and demand of current apps focused on particular exercises or body parts? , and the competitiveness of each exercise to see if its worthwhile to pursue?
Thank you so much for your video Nat! Would you recommend starting your own blog website (through WordPress or something equivalent) or start blogging on a high traffic site like Medium first to get more visibility?
Thanks Wayne! Didn't edit it myself no, working with someone much better than me at it. And not killing them for fun, killing them to eat them. Far more ethical way to eat meat vs. supporting factory farming.
Knocked it out of the park again
Thanks man, so grateful for your guidance 🙏
My favorite productive people!

Thanks for the inspiration as always Nat.
Yay! Thank you!
Nat, your blog has been a great source of inspiration. So cool to see you in person in these value-packed TH-cam videos. Keep it up, I'm following.

Fantastic vid Nat! Looking forward to the rest of the series AND to the hunt recap!
Glad you enjoyed! Definitely going to be doing some filming while I'm out there.

I am here for this. Right on time.
🔥🔥🔥
Awesome mate. Very impressive improvement you've made in the past few weeks. It proves that we should all 'just fucking ship'
Getting in reps definitely helps. I'm just trying to get a little better with each video
Love your podcast with Neil, really cool to see your youtube blowing up! Each platform has such a different vibe.
I appreciate that! Yeah definitely doing slightly different styles of content depending on the medium
Nat, holy crap. The production and content value here is outrageous. Well done, sir!
Hahaha thanks David! Slowly figuring this TH-cam stuff out

Another great video, Nat. Packed with great information, engaging, excellent flow. Keep 'em coming!
Thank you! Will do!
Awesome I was searching for someone to show the path
And the legend himself has decided to show the way . 😊😊
Thanks Arvind!
Love the new videos man. Can't wait for the next part of this series!
Glad you like them! Next one juts came out
Audio sounds so much better. Subscribed :)
Awesome, thank you! I fixed the gain settings on the mic and that made a big difference, experimenting with a Lav in some future videos too.

Thanks Parker!
Thank you so much for your video Nat! Would you recommend starting your own blog website (through WordPress or something equivalent) or start blogging on a high traffic site like Medium first to get more visibility?
Definitely building it yourself, but on webflow: nateliason.com/webflow
Releasing a video on this soon :)
How do you view deciding between making a Blog vs TH-cam channel vs podcast?
I do all of them hahaha
@@nateliason Is there one you suggest starting with over the others?
Inspiring content and love the editing too. If I could afford to outsource my editing -- which I will soon hopefully as I'm taking Ali's course!
Thanks! Yeah getting help on editing is definitely a huge leverage point for doing this much content
Thank you! I don't even remember how I found your videos now! lol
Your videos are getting more interesting every day.
Glad you think so! I'm trying to really figure out what everyone is most interested in learning
@@nateliason Well, I have a baby blog, so this series will be perfect for me.
Hey Nat, should I make my own website or should I start writing on a service like Medium?
Definitely your own website, Medium would own all your content and hide most of it behind a paywall
Both! Use medium to get reach, and then retreat back to your own site
Are you from Texas originally?
No, DC area!
This was a really great video. Definitely part of the 1000 (even though I was probably one of the readers in the 100000s)

2:02 Is that an X100S?
Not sure, it's stock footage
do you think blog name matters? i'd rather name it something cool & abstract and not just my name.
Use your name IMO, it's the only branding you'll wanna stick with for life
There are so many bots in the comments.
Did you edit this yourself? Great video, except that part about the trip you are going on to kill animals for fun.
Thanks Wayne! Didn't edit it myself no, working with someone much better than me at it.
