    When we hung 1900 boxes for ceiling drops used better cord such as type SO or SOW and always used a kilems grip cord connector. Cord never pulls out if properly installed. Thanks for another great easy to understand vid. Great that they have been making 1900 duplex reveptacle covers with 2 6/32 screws & nuts. If they only supplied with a plain jane hex nut always i installed 6/32 lockwashers. If we ran out of lockwashers would silivone nuts to prevent them ftom loosening.

    Drywall screws are subject to hydrogen embrittlement and consequently can stress-crack. Device steel mounting screws (and steel terminal screws and steel assembly screws are typically (not required but all manufacturers do it to avoid field complaints) heat-treated to preclude hydrogen embrittlement stress cracking.

    Again...thank you so much for all you do on here Ryan! Just wondered if you have done anything I may have missed regarding circuit breaker compatibility and UL Classified Vs UL Listed. I am a retired engineer and work part time in the electrical dept at Home Depot. (I do believe some of us in that dept save lives - not kidding) There seems to be a bit of confusion regarding these issues (including myself) among many electricians and all home owners LOL. SquareD seems to say some things unique about their breakers in this regard as well. Also was wondering about circuit breaker working-ambient-temperature-ratings especially in climates where ambient reaches 120F plus. I see many more catastrophic HVAC and other breaker failures this time of year. There seems to be some inconsistencies online regarding the above issues. Thank you again. I do love this channel and I recommend you to all the electricians, diy-ers and handymen I come in contact with. Please keep up your great work ... it is a great contribution to us out there and to others benefitted as a result.

    For years had arguments with receptacle for ceiling mounted overhead projectors that used the drop ceiling for return air. Was told that the power cords were never rated for this so mounted receptacle on ceiling facing down.

    • @RyanJacksonElectrical
      @RyanJacksonElectrical  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It really doesn't matter if the ceiling is a plenum because cords aren't allowed above any ceiling.

      @@RyanJacksonElectrical I did not know that. Back in the 70's would look the other way about a cord connected little say 1/15 HP sump pump motor for air handlers in drop ceilings due to ease of maintenance. Before every summer they would remove them and clean out junk in water collection container. They still had some that failed causing water damage to ceiling title. I know that they make hard wired little pumps for this application. Use to laugh at an IAEI board member that told us that he only allows above ceiling receptacles to charge your cell phone.

Great informative video, honestly all the rules make sense when you dissect them ... With 350 million people in the country someone has probably received a jolt in every conceivable way. Thanks!

    Gotta wonder how manufactured homes get by with their outlets directly mounted to the Sheetrock… no box at all.

    • @RyanJacksonElectrical

    What about the led lights that are only supported by the Sheetrock and they come with their own enclosure that is also not secured to anything ? Only supported by cable and sheet rock

      Those would fall under 410.30 and 410.36(B). Ultimately, the clips that attach the luminaire to the drywall are listed and comply.

    I’m glad to see that the orientation of the grounding terminal has remained out of the code. Unfortunately, even when there is inadequate substantiation, things do make it into the code when MONEY is involved. AFCI breakers and shutter receptacles are two excellent examples of products that should be available for use at one’s discretion, but certainly be not mandated.

    For ranges most manufactures only put about a 6 inch space on the bottom of the range. Are we allowed to put the 14-50 receptacle at the height of the floor plate so the range can be flush with the wall and if so what is the code? thank you

      @@RyanJacksonElectrical Thank you but i am still not clear on what it reads. It states if it is accessible from the front by removal of a drawer, shall be consider as meeting the intent. To me this means that i will have to put it inside a cabinet next to the range so it can be accessible but there is nothing saying that i cannot make the connection behind the range by the base of the floor as long as the box is still accessible by pulling out the range. Sorry for not getting it but can you clarified the meaning of 422.33. Thank you!

    Is a fireplace mantle considered a work surface?
