    Three hints for people who rent a boat for the holidays. Boats don't fishtail by themselves. The aft always swings to the left or right if you turn the wheel. If the boat is fishtailing, it simply means you are turning the rudder more than you need in order to correct your course. Less input on the steering wil solve the problem ;-)
    Secondly, and this is more important, a boat like this one probably weighs 10 to 12 ton. That is the weight of a bus. Never jump on or off the boat when it still moving. If you fall in the canal or lock, you may well be crushed between the boat and the side.
    Don't try to stop the boat by pulling the front mooring rope. It will result in the aft of the boat swinging away from the river bank. It is solving one problem by creating another problem. Just put the engine in reverse. One hundred horse power is more effective than one person ;-)
    And by the way, we rarely leave the boat when navigating a lock. Apart from the above, enjoy your holiday on the water and have fun.

    Thank you for posting the video. I feel it was misleading in the title to portray the “hard truth” attributed to Le Boat. It appears that the experience of the crew was lacking and caused the mishaps along the way. Charter boats are working boats - so the wear and tear is a consideration when choosing the class/quality of boat. Also - throughly checking systems (electrical, A/C, etc.) is important for YOU the renter to do before you leave the base. Still - there is good information.

    What a misleading video title! Except for the "final thoughts" section, this was much more "what I did on vacation", rather than hard information to assist one in determining if renting a canal boat is for them. And the videography and editing (and yes, the blurred faces) made it hard to watch even as a travelogue.

    I recoiled in horror when you entered the lock, and even more so when your crew thought it was a good idea to disembark whilst the craft was moving. It could have gone seriously wrong there. Use the ladders or landing jetties.
    For any new crew watching this, take your time. Don't put yourself or crew in danger by doing what's seen here @ 3:17. Thrusters are there to make it even easier.

    Hello from Lovely Queensland Australia. My wife and I very much enjoyed your Canal Boat trip. Well shot and good graphics and subtitles. But we were wondering why you felt it necessary to BLANK OUT the faces of the people on the boat ???. Especially when their faces could be easily seen on most of the shots around the boat !!!!. Max and Fiona.

    • @TheNoNonsenseTravelGuide
      @TheNoNonsenseTravelGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      THANKS! We were there early October. The problem with early September can be the heat. For example, in Beaune the past three Septembers, it has been as high as 86F. Most of these boats have "chillers" or "coolers" which use the chilly water to help cool the interior spaces. If you're worried about a heatwave, look for a boat with true AC. What a horrible way to enter a lock.
    Don’t bounce it in. Aim for the middle and at the begin of the lock don’t move that engine lever.
    A constant but slow speed gives you rudder control.
    Don’t step ashore if the boat moves.
    It’s not a good practice to jump of boats. Stop and step off.
    If you can’t don’t challenge your self.

    Could not get through this. Video skills are on a par with their boat handing skills, which are execrable. 'Cold hard truth' title was also massively inappropriate and clearly just a lazy grab for a cliche entirely in keeping with the rest of their capabilities.
