It's totally ok not really knowing what Way of Kings is about. You only scratch the surface in the first one, but I know you'll love it! My husband actually just finished re reading Night Angel (he doesn't re read books except Sanderson) and loves it. I need to get to it as well
Oh there are so many books I need to get around to. Fantasy wise I need to read the magician, skullduggery pleasant (before the second series comes out.), the mortal instruments and so many more that have been sitting on my bookshelf for years.
Fantasy is my favorite genre, so I tend to get carried away and buy all the books in the series before even seeing if I like the first one lol. To finally get through some of the completed fantasy series on my shelf, I need to read The Lumatere Chronicles, The Selven Realms Quartet, The Mistborn Trilogy, The Girl of Fire and Thorns Trilogy, and The Winner's Crime and The Winner's Kiss.
A fantasy book with great court Intrigue and politics is Elantris by Brandon Sanderson, plus the magic system is great. You will definitely like it if you loved Mistborn!

The Way of Kings is SO GOOD! Just listened to the Graphic Audio version (an audio adaptation with a full cast, music and sound effects.) It really is massive in scope, and the characters are fantastic. Also, the implications for the Cosmere are mind-blowing. Hope you enjoy it when you read it!

I'm reading Crowns Game right now!! It's absolutely amazing. The writing is beautiful, and I am completely intrigued by how it's set in Russia (don't see that a lot in YA novels). Loving the characters (although I'm sure I'm the only one who doesn't want the main characters to get together, so currently that's my only issue with it). This book has easily become one of my favorite YA novels
some fantasy books I need to read (and I own) are: the return of the king, a feast for crows & a dance with dragons, the chronicles of narnia (currently reading the horse and his boy. Liked the lion the witch and the wardrobe & the magicians nephew more). other fantasy books I need to read and donut own are: The ravenboys, half wild, falling kingdoms, the iron knight & siege and storm (that's the second book in the grisha trilogy right?)
I recommend reading the completed series first (Raven Boys, Night Angel), before reading uncompleted ones. Stormlight Archive is so good that like SOIAF and Kingkiller, the wait is excruiating.
The Crown's Game sounds so good! I finally ordered The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson and I'm really excited. Although it's kind of intimidating … but I just love fantasy so much 🙈
I'd recommend Snowdrops by Andrew Miller, since it's set in Russia. Also, knowing Russian gave it a little extra context, but I think you would enjoy it. It was long listed for a Man Booker!

The Way of Kings was my first ever epic fantasy read. I found a copy of the hardback at a thrift shop for $2 one day so decided to grab it. It took me about 100 pages to get into it and after that it was an amazing read. I read around 150 pages a day for a week. Smile spren were flittering all around when I read it that week.

Hi! As it happens, I really need to read The Raven King except I can't seem to find the courage to pick it up because, well, no more Raven Boys after that, right? So I think I want to delay the whole thing. Although, don't know if you heard but apparently Maggie Stiefvater has outlined a whole new Raven trilogy, Ronan-centric, this one? And thank you for recc'ing the Night Angel trilogy, sounds like something I'd be interested in. I just added it to my Want list :) Speaking of epic series that I really have to dive back in, there's the Dark Tower by Stephen King.
You need to read Guy Gavriel Kay. In my opinion, he might be the best living fantasy author. He has a superb eye for characterization, a fantastic sense of world building, and the ability to write some of the most evocative prose I've ever read. His books are also deeper than a lot of the the more pulpy, nothing-but-entertainent fantasy out there. His themes range from religious allegory to the role of art and storytelling in our lives. When I read Kay, I know I'm reading a true artist with a mastery of his craft.

Ok so basically, The Way of Kings is a masterpiece. I was a bit intimidated by its size too, but it was so worth it. And Kaladin is an amazing character. For the Night Angel trilogy, you'll fall in love with Kylar. You'll love both of these books, I'm certain of it.

The Way of Kings is really good but it's going to be like 7 books. If you read the two that are out you have a long time to wait till the end. Why rush? You'll end up like me, sadly waiting for book three.
Sticking to the fantasy theme... I REALLY need to get to the Throne of Glass series and The Raven Cycle. It's gotten to the point where I feel like I'll never actually read them even if I really want to. Ya know??

I just want to warn you about the Brent Weeks trilogy; it's one of his older works and apparently he has matured greatly as an author, but I could not finish the first book in that trilogy because it was fairly misogynistic. Maybe it won't be an issue for you, but seeing as you really like the author, I just wanted to warn you so you're aware and hopefully don't get disappointed by it. I do really hope it's not an issue and you can still enjoy the series, though!
I know you've said you like like paranormal romance before, I recommend The White Rabbit Chronicles. It doesn't sound like it is paranormal but I promise it is!!

You should read Tamora Pierce's Tortall books! She just shatters every tropes of fantasy that ever was, and is just a great writer!

Don't be too scared of Way of Kings! I'm like halfway through it- it is large, but it goes super quickly, and it's not hard to read.
