I love hearing those driers running off in the distance on a quiet autumn evening after the combines have quit or early in morning when the world has yet to awaken...music to my ears

I am from a very small farming town in Ontario, Canada. Our town has a large feed mill. In the fall when the corn is being brought to the mill and it is going through the dryer, the whole town smells like popcorn for as long as it is being harvested. I love this time of year.

As my uncle would say, it's time to get getting! He was a farmer here in Ohio, he farmed about eight thousand acres his son has the farm now.
It's time to get getting for you as well. Hope you have a successful harvest.
And thanks for putting food on my table.

    Talk about delayed reward.
"Putting down anhydrous for next years crop"
So that is a cost that won't be recovered until at the earliest November, December 2018, and the last of it not until July or August of 2019.
It puts in perspective the RISKS that farmers take every day of the year to ensure they will have a product to deliver to their customer in 18-24 months.
    Enjoy your videos!
Here in central NY most everyone is done chopping corn for Dairy cows, be another week or so before shelled corn is combined.

Anhydrous is a cheaper source of nitrogen and putting it on in the fall eases the work load in the spring. Purchasing it the year before creates a good tax deduction and also a early buyer discount. I used to purchase nearly all my next year inputs so that I could use the tax deduction for the current year, pay the loan off after the first of the year with sold grain after the first of the year and go into the next year with no balance on my operating loan. It was a win, win practice when it came to taxes and profit for the next year. It actually puts one into a lower financial risk. These inputs need to be purchased anyway and this is one of the better ways to manage fixed expenses. I paid off land faster this way too and put myself into a very sustainable, financially fluid and very solvent position when it came to purchasing needed equipment too. Be confident, optimistic but at the same time be realistic.

I never seen corn harvested before, I was expecting it to be on the cob. In the South Lincolnshire (UK) we get a lot of wheat or barley as a main crop with a few fields of rapeseed (I think it's called colza in the US - yellow plants, makes canola oil).
