  • While Tim Wakeman (Filmer of BKVP's popular program, "Montreal's Machines, Last Stand of the 251") was going through some of his older tapes, he came across a tape which contained dubbed footage from his trips to Eastern Quebec in the late 1980's. Much of this material never became part of our commercial program, so we are happy to present it now. The quality is not the greatest because it is at least second generation VHS footage, but fans of Alcos/MLW's should still enjoy it! Also included in this same 50 minute video is over 30 minutes of BKVP's 3-plus hour 2 volume commercial DVD. The scenes have been selected from each volume in no particular order. ENJOY!

I'm the young lad running the engine while switching at Drummondville. Have a lot more grey but i'm still running Engines for CP. The east end out of Farnham were some of my best times on the railway. Brings a smile to my face to watch the Alc's smoking up and down the Sherbrooke and Newport subs. Thanks!

Fantastic stuff, Tim! It's a shame I was too young to have captured this footage myself. Gotta love the chug of the 251, as well as all of those sweet sounding M3H air horns. Well done!

The Chessie engines were being leased by CP Rail. I saw a bunch of them when I took the Canadian from Montreal to Vancouver in 1987.

If not for the massive parts shortage with MLW going out, I bet the fate of these beauties would be the same as the sd40-2s, some retirements, but the majority would be still around.

Some Chessie System / B&O GP40's in there too....odd to see mixed with CP MLW's in Canada.

Those Alcos sure have a unique sound. They were quite the workhorses in their day. It is a shame that most of them have long been scrapped while you still see many SD40-2's still in service.

+Greg Rowe Because Alcos were pieces of shit, always broken.
      EMD were more reliable.
When GE took Alco over they developed their own engine , they shut down the Montréal plant and scraped all the parts there
