    Very interesting take on the prodigy for bob. I put 30 plus days on the 4.0 as a 6ft 3in 225lbs directional skier and loved how it ran in west coast conditions. It is soft, but still a hefty ski. I loved how the "directional twin tip" would pivot and let you dump speed if needed.

    Last year’s ARV 106 was poplar ash core and ARW 106 UL was caruba. They skied very different even with the same shape, so it sounds like they combined the feel of those two skis and found a nice middle ground. Now that ARV & ARW 106 are just a different graphic.

    I will vouch for the sakana. I’ve been skiing it for 4 years, nothing compares. It’s the easiest ski to have fun on, for a skilled skier. Its struggles in moguls, super steep, tight trees. It’s not gonna be best ski for technical precision or hard charging. But you can lay over carves in terrain never expected, lets you play with lines like nothing else. After losing a set last year, I bought another one. If you’re a ski collector this ski should be high on your to own list. You’ll never have a bad day skiing this.

      @lorcanduffy9590 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What makes them bad over moguls?

    • @Cyclingdropout
      @Cyclingdropout 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@lorcanduffy9590 150 mm wide shovels means skis knock constantly, stiff tails want to be carving rather than skid, while the ski is light the swing weight is all at the end of the skis making it not as nimble. when you throw the skis completely sideways on steeps, the excessive shape points you carving uphill. All that said you can do moguls, and I do them enjoyably . But this ski is not going to outperform other all mountains skis in the bumps. Generally the ski wants to carve or be pointed down the fall line. Throwing them sideways is a fun ride but constantly having them sideways is a quick way to find the limitations. The ski makes basic to advanced off piste sections super fun and playful but super severe terrain is not the skis strong suit.

      I live my sakanas. The main negative for me is If you’re ever skiing in chunky snow with ice chunks in it you have to be careful as those big shovels can grab an edge while leaning over on a chunk and rip the ski out.
      But yea they love to carve and I find they make me want to have fun and try lots of things.

    Thanks for the reviews. How would the Rustler 10 compare to the Dynastar M Free 108?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The Dynastar is a heftier ski, which is funny since the Rustler is the one with metal. Dynastar uses a lot of fiberglass in their skis, so you do get a lot of energy as well as weight. This makes it sturdy for a twin, as it does have considerable drama in the rocker lines and taper shape. The Rustler, even though it has a lot of tip splay, is actually flatter overall and therefore easier to drift and be smooth. So Dynastar achieves smoothness through the weight while Blizzard does it through shape. Rustler is more versatile from an all-mountain standpoint while the M-Free is a better pure powder ski.

    Hi Skiessentials! As always.. your comparison vids mark the start of the season - so hyped. I’m looking for a wider all mtn freeride ski that’s also a lot of fun on piste. Love the Atris’ design and philosophy - do you think it would be the perfect one quiver? I ski a lot like Jeff (much less park thing). Excited to hear your feedback.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      If you're looking for wider all-mountain/freeride, the mid-100's is a great place to be. The Atris is very playful, creative, and smooth. It's got great float and buttery tails. You may miss out on some on-trail carving performance versus something like an Enforcer 104, but overall, the Atris will handle a variety of conditions and terrain with a very high fun level.

    I’ve been skiing on the Stance 84 and am thinking about trying the Ripstick 88. Thoughts on differences between the two and the skiers they’re best for? Does the Ripstick require much of a step up in ability level?

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The Ripstick is pretty darn light and mobile--the Stance actually feels denser and more consistent from tip to tail. The Elan is more agile, and a better option in softer snow while the Stance is more grippy on firmer snow.

      Also keep in mind they make a QST 106 Echo which drops about 300 grams with the same shape, so that's a more efficient option. The Line Vision 104 is the lightest ski on the wall, that would be my vote for best touring option here, and we also talk about Kore and DPS with their carbon as good choices as well.

    Thanks for another great review! Do you guys think there’s any reason to size up in Rustler 10? I tried the 180 last year and liked it but it felt a little short at times. I know there’s no right or wrong answer, just curious what your thoughts are. I’m 6’ 200lbs strong advanced skier in Colorado. Thanks again!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think it's okay to size up on, especially if you're in more open Colorado spaces. Here in Vermont, it's a bit tighter and narrower, so upsizing isn't totally necessary. For your stats and application, I think the 186 is totally fine.

  • @darinsmith2458
    @darinsmith2458 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Even though I am a directional skier, I think I like my Enforcer 104 Free more than new Enforcer 104.. I would have to try it to see..
    I should probably wait and I might have to edit this comment since you just did the Kaizen and we will see what you say for the Wailer but anyways.. I think I understand what Jeff is saying about the different turn radius.. The 15m turn radius always likes to be turning.. I have the Wailer F100 RP.. Early season when there are a ton of people on the slopes it is a pretty good ski to have.. Whether it is rock hard groomers, pow, crud or slush it can handle all that.. They get squirrely when they aren't turning and they do not like tight areas.. When the rest of the hill opens up I can see how an 18m turn radius would be nice to have.. The other thing that I would say about the 15m turn radius is that I get tired with that big ski.. Mine is 184 cm..
    I demoed the Kore 99 a couple years ago and yes I agree that it was too reactive.. It sounds like the Kore 105 was and is more damp.. Maybe the extra surface area absorbs rather than reacts..
    As far as the Wailer 112 RP, it sounds very similar to my Wailer F100 RP. I will say that I do have to stay forward with the ski.. If I am in the middle or back the tails will grab and spin me around.. I should also mention that I got my speed record of 77.8 mph on my F100..
    You can't go wrong with the QST 106.. I know they changed the shape a little since I demoed them a few seasons back and I broke my arm on them in the tight moguly trees but they are very strong and stable and damp skis with energy..

      @SkiEssentials  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We spent a lot more time on the narrower Pandoras, but did get on the 106 a bit. It makes rounder turns than the Optic and feels a bit more playful, in my opinion. We'll definitely do some Pandora-focused content this season considering the whole line is refreshed.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're right about the QST being a totally awesome choice. Does it all. The Paragon just does it faster. If you're looking for more fall-line confidence at speed, the Kastle has more stability and edge grip and power. It's not as nimble or agile as the QST, especially in tighter spots, and it's not as good of a pure floater, but for softer groomers, crud, and chop at speed, it's tough to beat the Paragon.

I have been using Rossignol 92mm since 2020 but find them too light for my taste. Whilst I love powder, I would expect more rigidity (weight) for on-piste. I guess 92mm is simply too much of a compromise for everything...? Thinking to go for 100-105mm. Any suggestion, which would fit my style and age (175cm/70kg). - Great videos - keep watching them...

    Cooler mornings, browning leaves, now Ski Essentials comparison videos start dropping... officially getting the itch!
    Seriously struggling between that Mindbender 106C and Reckoner 110 or maybe previous gen 112. Planning for an out west soft snow day sidecountry ski, have Ranger 99TI's for most days. Mostly in resort with the option to do a bit of touring (Duke PT's). Race/instructor background. I like the idea of a surfy freeride ski, fun and playful. Still needs to have enough backbone for decent drops and hits so I was leaning Reckoner but I never really plan on landing switch in powder and am probably a more directional skier. Does the 106c stand up to some decent landing impacts? Is the Reckoner a worse all rounder for bumps and groomers? Would love your thoughts.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would go Mindbender 106 C if I were you. Reckoners are SUPER fun, but they're very, very soft flexing skis. With your background and given your mention of decent sized drops, Mindbender feels like the right choice. It's more supportive than either Reckoner (110 or 112). Still super surfy too. Should work pretty much perfectly for what you're looking to do.

      The Blaze is more flexible than the QST 106 and lighter as well. The Blaze feels more agile and drifty while the QST is more connected to the snow. The taper shape and rocker profile of the QST are more dramatic than those of the Blaze, balancing the mix of build and profile. I feel that more aggressive skiers looking for a harder charging ski will get along better with the QST, although the new Blaze is a whole lot of fun.

      I'd say the old 104 Free was more substantial overall than the Optic 104, and carved better turns from tip to tail on all snow conditions. I love the Justis--one of the most complete and satisfying skis I've ever been on, but the Declivity X 102 is a very close competitor. I'd take the Sender and FX out and lean to Justis or Declivity. Optic 104 vs Rustler 10? Looking for a PNW daily. I have a pow ski, so deep snow versatility isn't an issue. Which of these two would handle the heavy chop but maintain some playful, slarvy, smearyness. Playful style, lots of trees and bumps, but need more stability for the steeps and through the crud. I thought Optic 104 was the answer (coming off chronic 101), but watching you ski the Rustler has me rethinking my life

      I feel the new rustler 10s are different from the old. Im a lighter skiier out here in vail and i felt the new 10's were much more sluggish than the previous. That being said im a huge fan of the new rustler 9's. The qst 106s are much more lively and have a better pivot point for trees and bumps.

      You are not going to go wrong with either ski here. I do feel that the QST 106 is quieter overall but the Rustler is smoother and more stable at speed. For soft snow, the QST feels like a better floater, and I'd rather ski it in bumps and trees.

      Yes this is an interesting point. Rossignol has the Sender 106 Ti Plus in their catalog, but I don't think it's available in North America, so we're not including it in the comparison. We do still have them (2024 models) for sale on our site, and they're still awesome skis--I'd put them with the Paragon in terms of stability and power at speed. The Sender 104 is now the Sender Soul 102 and will be featured in the ~100 mm comparison. With regards to Line Sakana, I disagree you won't ski it much, it is my daily driver. I am retired national team freestyle, both athlete then coach. I ski mostly in Vail/ BC, and entirely good snow. I wouldn't recommend for poor or hard snow, but out west there is no reason not to ski it daily. At 181 it charges, and can lay trenches. A little chatter due to early rise in the tip, but no big deal if you are engaging that tip. And this ski is meant to be turning. I am not interested in bumps, but steeps and varied terrain it is great, as well. For powder days, Pescado is the easy answer though I have had the Sakana in some fun deep days as well. Chinese bases need some work to get them going, but you can get them close to some of the euro mades. And no, I don't ski for Line, they are actually the first two pair of skis I paid for with my own money in 40 years or more. They are that good.

There are some similarities with the Sakana, but more different than not. They are lighter and poppy, that swallow flexes unlike the Sakana, but like the S they carve surprisingly well on groomers for a 125 waisted ski. I think I would probably prefer the Sakana for chopped up pow, as the Pescado is very lively. However, in pure pow they are incredible, just a ton of fun. They are very light swing weight too, so I like them in steep chutes providing it is soft. 180 is enough length, nothing like 'em, just pull the trigger.

    Funny enough I was looking at the Salomon QST106, Line Optic 104, and Blizzard Rustler 10 before this video and you had them all 3 in a row.
    Would love to get your opinion on what ski you would recommend between the 3 of them. Between those which would you say is the most forgiving, has the best float, and easiest to pivot? I currently have the Line Blade for a hard pack ski and love the tight turn radius. Also have the Fisher FR102, however find it to not be as pivoty as I would like in the tails.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd say the Optic has the most forgiveness in the tips and tails but is pretty sturdy underfoot. The Rustler is very predictable and engaging from tip to tail and the QST is the best floater of the bunch while holding a great edge on firmer snow as well. It is very close between the Rustler and the QST when it comes to total versatility. Personally, I prefer the Salomon slightly over the Rustler, but I wouldn't be displeased on any of these three.

      @@karsonricelli1492 Scope is way looser and more flexible than the Origin. If that's what you're looking for, then by all means it's time for a swap!

      @@SkiEssentials thanks, I'm 6'3" 195 and I charge pretty hard on my origin 104, something tells me I'd be overpowering them.
      Are you guys gonna do a review on the new Liberty Radian?

    Does this stuff about missing skis/brands mean the Moment Wildcat 101/108/116 makes an appearance in later videos?!?!?!?

      No Moments this year in comparison videos. Hopefully we'll get on them this year at an industry demo and give them a whirl!

    I generally don't care much about top sheets but these are all boring or ugly.

      I'll defend the Line Sakana with its bandana-style print. The 181 is black instead of green, so that bumps it up a notch in my book. Volkl Revolt 104 is another favorite.
