Nestled in the lush forest of Martis Valley near Lake Tahoe, Forest House by Faulkner Architects is a stunning 4,500-square-foot retreat designed to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings. The residence features an elongated, south-facing rectangular plan to minimize environmental impact and maximize solar gain. With an exterior of ebonized steel rain screens mimicking the texture of tree bark, the house offers protection from wildfires while complementing the forest landscape. Inside, the home boasts expansive south-facing sliding glass doors, basalt stone floors, reclaimed teak ceilings, and board-formed concrete walls. Continuous recesses in the ceilings conceal lighting and fire sprinklers, enhancing the minimalist aesthetic. Translucent green glass screens at the entrance echo the tones of the surrounding pines, creating a harmonious connection between the home and its environment
