Congrats you’ve been indoctrinated by the reapers now. But understand mass effect first hits you with the insignificance of reality. Then if you look closer you play a much larger role in the galaxy every single one can change the course of the universe. Small choices affecting big ones over a longe enough amount of time.
So you want to be liquidated in a painful process turned into a genetic goop. (I was not kidding about being liquidated) pumped into a body with hundred to millions of others who’s very being was vilontly put into a blender. And have all your minds turned into a form of gustalt consciousness. With a bit of insanity thrown in…. Then be my guest.
The only thing that I disliked about the original trilogy was in ME2. Why would the Reapers build a humanoid looking Reaper? There were not any individual looking Reapers when the mass attack began. They all looked like their creators, the Leviathans.
Im just wondering, what if a species came about without the need for reaper tech. What if they never discovered the Citadel and thus evolved their own technology? Wonder what would have happened if the Reapers came back to the galaxy to find a species that is more advanced than they were prepared for?
Well, let's look at it this way: By the time a civilization takes to the stars and they discover a gigantic mass relay - who wouldn't be using it? Explore unkown technology? No species would just ignore that. Also, the reapers are constantly watching. Either by scouts or indoctrinated species. I think every species wants to expand. Even if they wouldn't be using the mass relays, the reapers will notice them at some point. They can be as advanced as they want, I'd say the species would simply lose to a suprise attack.
This is a misunderstanding. _ALL_ the Cycles had evolved their own technology, Element Zero isn't a trap, no more than Iron ever is. The trap is the _Mass Relays_ specifically. A good analogy would be the Reapers building rivers crisscrossing an otherwise barren desert, with a lake as the hub, with an island that's basically a paradise in the center. The Mass Relays are so widespread that, if your home star system doesn't have a Mass Relay, a neighboring system will.
@@Rainbowhawk1993 Ah ok. Thanks for clarifying. I do agree, as much as I love the theory, denying what ending exists in the game, regardless of quality, does seem a bit nuts to me. I do like the idea of an intelligence behind the Reapers actions.

I like the idea that the (terribly named) reapers are conceptually similar to the paperclip machine described in the “instrumental convergence” concept. I wish BioWare had approached the writing and characterisation of the reapers a little differently though. Rather than being baddies (and having a named leader), I think they could have been presented far more neutrally - in a more utilitarian way. I think that would have been scarier.
The main goal of the reapers wasn’t to be scary , it was to make you feel small, them having superior intellect and seemingly aware of grander laws and perspectives is what makes them interesting . You can’t do that without making them sentient , and any sentient being that commits the acts that the reapers do will be baddies no matter how you slice it .
@@mookiestewart3776 I don't entirely agree with you there. I think it's pretty clear that BioWare intended the reapers to be intimidating/frightening/threatening. That's pretty clear in the conversation you have with Sovereign, for example. I think BioWare actually came close to threading the needle. They tried to strike a balance between making the reapers uncaring, cold, calculating machines AND giving them a malevolent streak. I just think that they leaned a bit too heavily on the "malevolent bad guy" side for my tastes. The true nature of the reapers is really fascinating; it's something of an ajar door that wouldn't have required a heavy push to open.

I can't believe how few ME games we've gotten. Whereas AC gets a game nearly every year.
Quality over quantity. Assassin's creed is a bunch of fantasy bullshit now
