My Dad was a semi pro bowler. Here around Atlanta there were 3 or 4 bowling alleys that had slot car tracks in them. The Dads could bowkl and the kids stayed out of their hair by slot car racing. I started in 1966 when I was 6 years old. I still have some of mine and my Dad's cars. Turns out he loved it too. Great times. I have worked at 2 different tracks through the years and I now am looking to buy a small 4 lane wooden track for my basement. Tracks keep on closing down...so I will get one for myself.

I had to re-watch a few videos...this one was fabulous. The era of the slot car craze must’ve been amazing. I was a little tike when the era was at its prime but a big part of my collection is focused on this era and the pit box from Hoffman is an iconic piece as you highlight here. I just had to enjoy this video again! Thanks John!

Thanks so much for re-watching! In 1964 the Wall St. Journal stated the slot car business to be worth $100 million dollars! Thanks again for your wonderful comments and support! I really appreciate it!

I have a co- worker that would enjoy your channel… I found you thru MAXSMODELS…
Yes we had a STOT CAR TRACK SHOP WHERE I LIVE
only went there a few times
The building is still there, no track…
If I was a serious slot car racer, I would have one of those boxes or something like it, OF COURSE it’s part of the HOBBY…
    I’ll keep watching….
    CHRIS from OHIO…

i still have a couple of my 60's boxes. one i designed and built myself in my Dad's wood shop and still use to this day. it even has a REV500 sticker on it!, as well as STP and WYNN'S.
another one i have similar to your nice Hoffman had the flimsy briefcase-like top handle break off, so i replaced it with the dash grab handle off my uncle's '66 Tempest when he traded it in!
    thanks for sharing this.

Steve, your racing boxes sound great! Very cool using a grab handle from a Pontiac Tempest, that was the 'base' for a GTO! Thanks so much for your comment!

I just got back into the hobby. I race 1/24th scale flexi's and I have 5 cars and a controller plus bottles of stuff for the tires, the copper braid cleaner and oil, and tools. So I ordered a Dengler pit box! I'm carrying my stuff in a backpack until it arrives! Loved your video and enthusiasm!

I have a Hoffman box just like the one you show in this video. This was my third wooden box, I bought it new about 1970-71. I've carried it all over New England for all sorts of slot cars from a flexi to wing cars. Today it sits in my spare room full of parts, a couple controllers, & one slot car I keep as a memorial to a friend. Some time, I'll tell you about this friend, but now isn't the time or place. In hindsight, this Hoffman box is too small for my needs.. I recall also taking a milk crate full of slot car items to some races. I've always said if I built a box, it would have to be bigger. And I'm a person who only carries 1 or 2 cars around at a time. That was another neat video John. I'll look forward to seeing others.

Bill, thanks so much for your comment! What a wonderful way to remember your friend and keep your memories alive. If we remember someone, they are never truly gone. More episodes to come, thanks for watching!

What I’ve always done since I was a kid was, and is, to hold the pick up shoes down on the track and lift the back end of the Slotcar just enough to clear the rear wheels from the track surface. It accomplishes the same thing duh!
