- When David moved to Mexico, he kept his condo in Colorado just in case he decided Mexico wasn't for him. But then he fell in love with Larissa in Mexico City. They now live in San Miguel de Allende.
My wife Kat is very keen on having an exit plan - a way to return to the United States if Mexico doesn't work out. As part-time residents, it's not as much of a concern, because we are moving back and forth every six months. But for full time residents, you must make a decision about selling your property in the US - or keeping it and renting it out. Property values in the US tend to rise more consistently than in Mexico, so it can be hard to return if you've exited the housing market.

I would love to see a story of an older woman who found a good man in Mexico, and also the process of buying rural properties. I'd love to hear about prices in the coutryside where silence and vast landscapes amidst nature can be found. Could you interview a real state person who specializes in homesteading land?

Dave I live in bc and the most dangerous part of my Mexico trips is driving through the lowermainland( greater Vancouver/surrey)so you might want to detour at Alberta? Might save 1000 km or so? 😂

My first love was from Mexico city early 90s. She temped at Zerox in CT and sadly she never wrote me as she promised when she returned to Mexico.

I love how easy it is to understand. Maybe she's learned to speak that way so her husband can understand. I'm guessing that she can amp up the cadence if she wants to mess with him ;-)
I appreciate the awareness to anything we can do to keep Baja Sur clean but take exception to singling out South Dakota plated cars as inordinately polluting.
For most, South Dakota (and other states) allow us to keep legally titled vehicles on the road without paying for full time duplicate insurance. California titled vehicles would need full time California insurance which is useless in Baja and Baja California Sur.
If anything I see US titled vehicles as the best maintained capable of taking their owners North if needed.
While shipping got an honorable mention the ferries and cargo ships are a far greater source of pollution than they were given credit for.
Sorry - I mention the SD plates (I have them on my car) only because they don’t require emission tests, and they CAN be polluting.
I didn’t know California required full time insurance. We change our Oregon insurance to “in storage” when we drive our other car back and forth.

I lived in San Miguel de Allende for years in Colonia San Antonio. I know that many homes there go in the high 6 figures and in the millions USD. $600 is very low rent for S.M.A.

I can't speak for everyone but with 2 dogs that we absolutely will NOT place in the bowels of a jetliner we would likely move once and for life. If we find affordable health care for old "f..ts" like us. AKA those over 65. Coming from a land of universal healthcare it can be a daunting to move. I guess we could commute but over 4000km each way through a "gun culture" isn't that appealing. But thanks Brighton and good for you Dave. P n D
If you head straight across to BC, then straight south thru the "left coast" you'll be less likely to run into the gun toting 'Mericans on your way down. And those states probably have the best healthcare too - just in case you get into an accident. ;-) See you soon Dave!
@@AlmostRetiredinMexico Reality check. Not as concerned with the Mexican folk as the good ol boys. But You Knew That. Oh and States ? And by taking your directions it adds app 6000 K to the Journey. Which you likely knew too. 😇
@davebaker489 Oh - I'm only talking about the left coast of the US. You Canadians are always such "glass half empty" with your metric system. You'd only add 3700 miles to your journey with my route! Way better than 6000 kilometers!
I live in Texas. Travel thru the USA in the daytime and you might be safe..LOL, OH and don't drink the healthcare.
