You nailed it! This machine is a great choice for people who already own 1 or 2 "modern" games and are looking for a more "classic" experience. I really want one myself.

I've played and enjoyed the game at three shows and one barcade. Our friend Todd collected my LE deposit almost a year ago already.
I totally understand the theme and gameplay. In my lineup, it will be with my retro machines. Six Million Dollar Man and James Bond 60th.
The modern machines have their own row and will enjoy their LCDs and modern touches.

Pulp Fiction was always intended to be a throwback (circa 1979) game from the start. I own a Firepower, and I love Dolly Parton (the game). The game hits me in all the right places as I came of pinball age in the late 1970's at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. I truy enjoy playng it every time at the Enterrium and Logan Arcade in Chicagoland. Gonzo--anyone who loves pinball is NOT a bad pinball player.

I want one of these soo bad. And I love that you have an EBD glass on the floor as that is my number one favorite pin of all time. PF is as close to that as I've seen in a long time and despite the cost, more likely to be actually available since 8BDs are practically unobtainium these days.

  • @Superdummy803
    @Superdummy803 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Love the commentary. Funny you mention Godzilla paired with PF would be a good companion game. Godzilla is my only other game. That'll be it for me for a little while. But in the future, I hope to add one more game to complete my collection. That will be a kid friendly game. Looney Tunes or Scooby something like that. But that's a few years off.
I feel like a dummy mentioning this because I feel everyone should know to do this, but I'll mention it anyways. One thing I do if there is a shot I just can't hit, like that scoop shot on Godzilla, is to practice that shot. Take the glass off, put a clean rag or sock into the drain, then pick up the ball, place it on the flipper and go for the shot. Hit or miss, keep picking up the ball to do it again. Keep doing that for like 10 minutes and you'll get it. Do this as a warmup each day before you start playing and you'll lock that shot in. Works for me (sort of LOL).
I also think rewatching the movie should be a requirement for playing this game. Especially if you haven't seen it in a while. It'll allow you to really place all the call outs. I just did that the other day and it really sinks in now when I hear them during game play. Just brings a smile to my face. Cheers!

Thanks for the gameplay and review! Funny, I had a motor problem with my NIB Cactus Canyon. As far as I can tell, it's the motor's gear train getting out of alignment (or stuck, or something.) Makes the game try to feed it too much current, which the game doesn't like and cuts power to the motor altogether. To fix it (with the game powered off), I give it a little shot directly with a 20v power supply - just like Vincent giving Mia Wallace the adrenaline shot to the heart - which immediately gets the motor moving. Then it'll run fine for about a month or so, before I have to do it again. Gotta love pinball machines!

A couple of notes from Karl's stream. He had the outlanes wide open and all ball savers, including magnet shots turned off. The same settings that Josh Sharpe (rules) achieved the wizard mode twice in 3 years. But yeah, I definitely wouldn't say shallow. I always kinda smirk when i hear someone say they almost beat it at a show cuz that lets me know they don't completely understand the rules.

In 2024, I can tell ya this much w confidence: If this _exact_ machine had a different theme, there may not’ve been enough preorders to get this one off the ground.
I get where SJohn’s comin from, but in today’s market, a two-bat table with a spinner & some targets just wouldn’t get most to reach that deep into their bankrolls for that today.
QT wanted it this way, but I think only those w deeeep nostalgia for tables like Dolly & hardcore Pulp fans are gonna buy this at these prices.
I really hope you enjoy yours-at least it’ll never lose its value. ✌️

Great commentary on PF. Do you think it’s similar in its throwback nature the way Bond 60th is? I feel like people are quick to criticize non-stern titles and will give Elwin’s Bond throwback a pass and only go after its price, not its difficulty or simpler code set.

    • @GonzosPinballFlipperama

I honestly couldn't say Raf. I haven't seen a 60th Bond in person but I know it was a single level game albeit with a screen.
Not everyone will love this game, but those who accept it for what it is will enjoy it I'm sure. I'll definitely be getting one.

Variety in modern pinball? Absolutely welcome. You have to appreciate the classics to get the game. It’s about hitting the shots after many times of trying, it’s about getting that lucky bounce to save to ball, it’s about getting that unfair rebound off a target. That’s the fun of the game. Having foo and Godzilla, I don’t want another flow game for now. I want variety.

Yes i love throwback games like that one but i think it only makes sense when it's mixed within a collection. If it's your only pin, then i have to admit there are chances that it would get old quite quickly and the fact there are only 5 licensed musics in the game repeated over and over is a bit of a letdown 😏. But this might well change with future code updates...who knows ? 😉
