Gerbert: Have you ever felt sad? I thought everyone had forgotten my birthday. It reminds me of the time David and his men returned home to find an enemy nation had attacked their town and kidnapped their wives and children. I feel just like that.
What’s worse is I’ll bet that the kidnapped wives and children even forgot that David and his men were coming home that day.
“They wouldn’t have remembered, even if they weren’t kidnapped…”
Why did that sound like the start of a family guy cutaway gag?

Random fun fact nobody asked for:
There’s an ep of Gerbert (Forgive and Forget) where Stu and some other kid were delivering news papers. The kid accidentally throw the news paper in Gerbert’s window and breaks his kite he was making and Gerbert blames Stu.
And he confronts Stu and Stu’s speech made me soooo sad. Stu says:
“I always get blamed for the bad stuff. I can do good stuff too, you know. Nobody cares when I do good stuff. It’s only when I do bad stuff. I know I don’t act like it, Gerbert, but I really like being your friend.”
And that’s why Stu is the best character, thank you.

I remember that episode! Stu tried to trick the jury by quoting Rugrat’s classic episode: “I’m not Stu!” Kinda weird but hilarious.

I feel like they may have credited Gerbert as “The Voice” as to not break some kid’s heart finding out that Gerbert is actually just an artificial entity with a man’s hand up his ass.

if children's entertainment has taught me anything, it's that you don't throw a surprise party because the birthday boy/girl will just think everyone forgot their birthday.
Has anyone ever had a good surprise party in real life? In entertainment, it certainly seems to be a neverending nightmare.
Or they think everyone doesn't like them because the person's friends avoid them while trying not to spoil the surprise.
My Dad and stepmum actually forgot my birthday earlier this year and I thought about this trope. They were sure it was the next day and I thought nothing was said at first because eh, Saturday morning, we're tired and have to do shopping and one goes to work. I just waited to see how long it would take for them to remember but in the end, I did have to remind them when we were debating the use by date on some spuds. A woman nearby found it hilarious but she did wish me a happy birthday and one of my colleagues had sent me a text that morning with birthday wishes; she remembered!
Or, "If you're intending to throw someone a surprise party, make sure you assign somebody to keep the guest of honor occupied until everything's set up, preferably with an activity that takes a few hours." Seriously, I NEVER see a surprise party story where they think of that, it's always just "avoid them like the plague until we're ready."

Or did Gerbert move out of his parents house, get a job(a well paying one apparently), bought a house, furnished it, and now just hangs out with random kids all day? Ether Gerbert is very short man child that people take pity on or he is one progressive and self sufficient kid who is doing better than most people these days.

I feel like veggie tales is a perfect example of a show that teaches while being fun, instead of having a learning time and a fun time its a fun time and a fun learning time.
Nah, Veggie Tales isn't teaching anything good for kids to learn. Something that solely stuffs kids' brains full of religious bullshit & dogma is not "educational" lol. If anything it's the exact opposite and does more harm than good. Try something like Bill Nye for an actually good educational TV show.
@@Cooe. first off I agree it isn't right that it attempts to teach them religion before they can choose BUT it also teaches them sharing how to be nice etc. Bill Nye does teach things and Is fun but its again separate just by the show teaches something I disagree with doesn't mean I can't see that it's still a mega great way to teach shit

Man back in 2003 I watched a college TV show talking about Gerbert and slowing down his voice to make the video seem creepy. Now 15 years later I am still watching someone talk about this kid's show. Life is bizarre.

As a Christian, that made me laugh so much! I never watched Gerbert as a kid (thank God), but Veggietales was my thing!
Gerbert fled the set in 1991, and was declared a missing person. Many of his friends and family thought he would never be seen again. Desperate to escape the world of children’s religious propaganda, he went into hiding. After a period of time he secretly took to squatting in the underbelly and dark recesses of the Wells Fargo Center, sustaining himself off of stale beer drippings and scraps of dropped or discarded stadium food. Then, in 2018, Gerbert re-emerged to the world under his new identity. The one, the only Gritty!

Ahh, nothing tops the aesthetic of weird off-brand children's VHS tapes. Really takes me back to being a kid at my old baby sitter's house, where she would pop weird crap into the VCR and go vanish while something dumb kept me entertained for an hour or two.

I've got to be honest, Ian, for someone handling religious content where jokes could easily become... contentious (or, I suppose, offensive to some) you do a really great job at it. Your videos are always hilarious and very fun to watch, and they do a good job of staying appealing to pretty much everyone, even when it is super easy to take a pot-shot at cringey religious media or something of the like. Keep up the good work, man!

What I find weird about Stu is how he's a teenager in a little kids' show. Like, anyone over the age of 10 should not be on these shows (except adults).
But he's Gerbert's N-E-I-G-H-B-O-N-E-I-H-B-O-H-N-O-R! Of course we need a teenager on there to show that everyone is filled with love and friends in the land of 'Jesus-y Enough' shows.

Barney, Teletubbies and Boobah would like to have a word with you. These shows had older than 10 year old (and are not yet adult) characters play the role of an older relative (usually siblings)
Sesame Street has had teenage human characters who grew up into adults, and they handled it pretty well.
I actually met Gerbert's puppeteer at a puppet convention years ago, super nice guy! Nice to see his VHS tapes getting some love!
