I really hate how the producers treated Mary after season 4 simply because they were mad at the actress, Jessica Biel, for that stupid photo-shoot thing that she got tricked into as a teenager. The way the writers derailed Mary’s character and ruined her life simply because they were mad at Jessica feels so wrong on so many levels especially since 7th Heaven was supposed to be a show that preaches grace and forgiveness. No wonder Jessica didn’t want to do the show anymore.
Jessica actually wanted these changes because she felt her character was too one dimensional and unrealistically perfect. Mary's rebellious streak was actually one of the more interesting storylines the show had imo.
The father does an excellent job showing he means business and doing whatever it takes to protect his family. Mary simply has a bad attitude and shouldn't be hanging out with losers who smoke pot and have no values or class. Her parents did the RIGHT thing by sending her to Buffalo to get her act together, I don't care what anyone thinks or says otherwise.
NO parent has the RIGHT to control their adult child’s life. PERIOD. Safety or not, NO parent LEGALLY has the right to do that. Parents who are that controlling make me sick 😡
Stephen Collins and Jessica Biel have a lot in common in real life. Jessica Biel is from Minnesota and Stephen Collins is from Iowa and they are neighboring states

They're strict parents. Mine were the same way when I was a teenager. Also earlier on in the show Mary's mom revealed she experimented with pot and lost a friend who smoked pot with her and her before getting into a car crash.
Pot was also illegal at that time. And seriously I wouldn’t want my kids smoking and getting high. Her friends were arrested, for possession. That is an actual crime!

I'd sooner associate myself with them vs the god fearing, bible bashing, Christian Taliban. Wait until they die and they see that there is no Heaven, God, etc., They're in for a very sad shock.
What did you expect? A loving father HAS to show tough love to his son/daughter to show that he cares for the safety and well-being of his children. Parenting is a major responsibility and it is the job of a mother and father to teach their kids good morals, values, manners and life lessons. It is VERY important for kids to face consequences when the kids break the rules or disobey their parents. Need I say more?
