What is the reason for using empty Layens frames, instead of putting foundation on them? I will be doing this exact thing with a split from a deep Langstroth to my Layens horizontal in about a week.
@@BeldingHillFarms I agree! My mentor suggested using frames with at least some foundation to give them a head start at first. Thanks for your reply - I just saw it in my emails 😎
@@cherylmclaughlin8652 be careful. I've had mine cross comb 4 frames when I didn't add a starter strip. It doesn't really matter if they do that in the brood chamber area of the hive. But you can't do any checking of those frames. Every time I have used starter strips, cross combing has not happened. I learned my lesson. Hahahaha Good luck with your exchange. I hope it went well!!
You could be right, but today (August 19th) we inspected it again and looked at every frame because I was trying to find the queen and we found her in both of these hives and found no swarm/queen cells. We found some queen cells in another hive, but that is because I removed a hive of bees from a woman’s roof and I didn’t get the queen. I will have a video of this removal soon.
I can’t wait to get bees great video new friend
Thanks for watching

We were just trying to keep things as natural as possible and allow the bees to do the work
