I used to film the weekly races there from 2005 to 2011 from the platform above the announcer's booth that you access from that ladder and roof hatch in there. Odd seeing the place in that state but it still brings back good memories of all the Friday nights spent there. The videos I filmed there are on my channel if you wanted to see the place before it closed.
It is so sad to me to see the sport dying like it is. My favorite track is just not getting the crowds it used to. They are still doing pretty good but who knows how long it can last. Two other area tracks are just hanging on by a thread. I have been to them when there were not 200 people there. One was even offering free admission to people from one city or another on special days just to try and draw people in.
This place was remarkable as far as an abandoned location. Nature reclaiming its own inside our man made venues. If you guys enjoyed the video, leave a thumbs up! This was definetly one of my favorite explores from this year. I'm wishing all that view a Happy New Year's! As we aren't slowing down this year ! Thanks for watching !
So that tape you found around the 17 minute mark is a betamax or betacam tape, probably betacam a very common broadcast format until the mid 2000s, very cool and not VHS at all. Still awesome you found it though
@@NascarFanSince No its not the fans. Its the cost. Its getting to expensive to operate a track, too expensive to run a race car, and that cant be made up with gate revenue. It's honestly mind blowing how everything was just left behind! I recently bought a race track that was out of operation for a couple of years. I'm so excited to try to bring it back to life.
10s of thousands of dollars of racing memorabilia there. Used to go there in the 70's to see my favorite drivers like LJ Dennis, Blackie Watt, and Russ Redshaw.
I’m from Pennsylvania and I remember the racetrack at Dorney park for stock cars , and the Nazareth speedway. Both gone, many good times I had at both. I’ve never been to this one. Thank you !
@@amerbooboo1... it’s still there I was there in June. Nature has completely reclaimed it, all bleachers removed, you can’t even tell what it was anymore. Sad
Wow, the memories I have of this place. Spent many Friday nights here with my father. I even remember seeing a car hop the infield wall on the backstretch and take out someone's personal vehicle. So sad to hear it is no more.
I agree. Great explore. As a Nascar fan and a self confessed car nut, I loved seeing the old memorabilia like tickets, stickers, banners, etc. Thanks for sharing.
Very cool, I love your videos man. For some reason it's so cool to see the old abandoned properties. Almost like it's a weird gateway to the past I guess.
I remember when it was dirt! I remember when Charlie Swartz raced there along with John Holt, Lynn Geisler, Mark Banal, John Johnson, Bucky Johnson, and ....
The opening crash was Chuck Kennedy, I was there that night. And where you opened your video, up in the back stretch VIP box, that was rented by Rose Lumber. I used to watch races every weekend from that very spot with my mom and dad, with the Rose family. Very awesome people... I miss those days so much....
Thanks for the video. Only was there once during its pavement days. I was helping local E-Mod driver John "Peanuts" Yunstince. Took a night off from wrenching on sprint cars. My dad was a sprint car fan and I took him to an All-Star Circuit of Champions race when I was 16 back in 83 or 84. Saw an ad in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that they were running there and that really started a great journey. I think Kenny Jacobs won the race in the 4J. Got to see Keith Kaufman in the big block powered Hamilton 77, Dave Blaney in the 10 car, Steve Smith Sr, Joe Saldana etc.. Got to see the guy I would work for on his sprint car some 7 years later, John Stickley in the L-7 sprint car. I worked on his car in the western Pa. circuit from 1990 to roughly 2005. Lots of great memories. That one night taking my dad to the race started something special. Thank again.
I remember going there as a kid from 2005 to even 2014. It looks so different now. I have a lot of good memories there. Thats where i was able to watch local racing as i fell in love with it. Thank you for making this video
This is really depressing. 30 years ago we used to go and watch Charging Charlie Cragan and the rest compete every weekend during racing season. Sprint cars on Friday night at Lernerville (Looneyville) and late model stocks at Motordrome on Saturdays.
Thank You for entertaining us through 2021. Like last year ,this year couldn't have been that much easier and I for one appriciate your dedication. Have a great festive season and Happy New Year Regards, Dafydd
I live not to far away from here I was just there a few weeks ago it went up for sale and sadly it’s starting to be demolished the grand stands aren’t there anymore but the buildings are.
I have many good memories from the days of dirt. I never took my ride out when they had that option. I did do PID and Sharron a few times.. Good times!
You know. NASCAR drivers and you have something in common. Giant, brass balls. It takes alotta guts to drive that fast. And it takes alotta guts to explore where you explore. Lotta balls. And a lotta guts.
Very fun to go along with you in this very well made video! The vehicle you encountered at about 9:45 is a street-sweeper. Maybe they used it to clean the track and/or pit areas?
Bedford fairgrounds on Wed. North Hills Speedway on Thurs. Clearfield on Fri. Smuckers on Sat. Motordrome on Sunday. Raced 5 dsys a week back then. The pits were up on the top above turn 4.
I used to take my little brother here a few Friday nights every summer. We grew up about 3 miles up the river from the track, and the sound would carry right up the valley.
I am from Canada and went to this speedway in 2012. So sad to see it has been shut down. The racing was awsome and very very fast. Great Video from you guys. Wayne from Canada
That was a pretty cool explore. Although I don't really watch NASCAR it is still really neat to see these places after they close down, especially cool things like that old Gatorade sign.
I was there the night of that crash in the opening scene. We were parked right there by turn 4. I would have been 12 at the time. I remember the flames shooting up after the car smashed into the wall. It was one of the coolest/scariest things I had seen in my life (at that time). We used to go every Friday night. It is a shame that this place has turned into what it is today. Thanks for the video, brought back a lot of memories. C and C Lumber night! We always got to ride in the back of the delivery trucks when we took a lap around the track!
I remember back when I was little I went to that same track in West Newton, Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh with my dad and friends who I brought with me. Those were great times and it sucks that they abandoned that place because it was actually fun there. I don’t know if the owners of the track passed away or something else. 8 years later I was 9, now I’m 17 and almost an adult. I miss that place. Hope someone will buy it one of these days!
I can confirm the official shut done at the end of 2015 I was a member of one of the modified race teams that raced here that year the story that I got was the promoter ran out of money or ran off with the sponsor money for 2016 I've heard it told both ways and had a two-year contract with the track owner there by nobody else could take over the track and he had disappeared the end of 2015 so the track didn't reopen for the 2016 season and has set every since
