Lee Greenwood was 77 years old when he cut this video. He still has the pipes! Because he was working with such an accomplished group of singers, the Home Free guys encouraged him to stretch his vocal performance. That's where he did the key changes and all the runs and ad libs. I think it was awesome that they featured him in the song. Home free is quite generous that way.
Yes, this updated version of Lee Greenwood's song is very beautiful and very patriotic and yes, besides Lee it features US soldiers and Home Free. Also note that Adam Rupp (Home Free's beatboxer) provides the percussion in this song and if you listen carefully you can hear him make the sound of a jet flyover right at the end.
The percussion is the vocal talent of Home Free's Adam Rupp, one of the best lin the business. Check out their Man of Constant Sorrow, and you'll hear him "play" his harmonica. They're a really enjoyable rabbit hole to go down.
I've seen a few different Reactors from other countries react to this same exact Version and Video each one of them had the same Reaction in the Beginning that the first Guy was Lee but thought that everyone else were Soldiers all Because the Title of the Video is Very misleading to me the wording makes it sound like A cover of god bless the usa done by a group of Soldiers When in Reality it's Lee Greenwood featuring Homefree and some US Soldiers
I am proud to be an American even though I don't like every going on in our country. I love this song. This particular collaboration with the soldiers is amazing and beautiful!❤
Lee Greenwood and the Airforce singers were amazing. Home Free ALWAYS is. This song was produced during the Pandemic, which is why all of the cities are at the beginning of the song. In the beginning, when the cities were named, Chance from Home Free was in Los Angelos, the Airforce Choir was in Washington, D.C., Rob and Adam Rupp from Home Free were in Minneapolis, Austin from Home Free, and (I'm guessing) Lee Greenwood were in Nashville. This will always be an amazing, patriotic song for the US. However, you must give everyone participating in this amazing version (and their mixers) much credit because this was recorded during quarantine. In fact, Home Free did many songs when the world was in quarantine. This song is amazing, but the fact that it was recorded in four cities during quarantine makes it so much more amazing!
During the pandemic, these people all got together in their separate towns and did this song , individually and a engineer spliced them together for this result ❤ Homefree and Lee Greenwood who wrote this catchy tune ! Plus the Army choir in assistants ❤🇺🇸🙏
Lee Greenwood performed this song on a carrier in the Gulf during the Gulf War, at Christmas. The number of servicemen crying is something I'll never forget.
What a wonderful collaboration from Home Free with Lee Greenwood and The United States Air Force band. One by one such beautiful voices which match so well with the voices of Home Free. The fact that Lee Greenwood remains the center of attention I think shows a lot of respect for this great singer. But Adam Rupp tops it off with his incredible beatboxing/vocal percussion/vocal sounds. He is inhuman.❤️ Home Free is the best a-cappella group.
Take Lee Greenwood, add 5 guys that go by the name of Home Free, then combine them with the United States Air Force Singing Sargeants and you have a wonderful mixture that's filled with beautiful voices and beautiful harmony!
Love this thank you for playing it. Never get tired of hearing it. Another good one that I can't remember you listening to is Toby Keith Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue. The angry american
This is an arrangement by Home Free and their producer Darren Rust featuring Lee Greenwood and the US Air Force singers. It was released on the Home Free youtube channel. It is Home Free providing the background music, sounds, and their beatboxer Adam Rupp.
I love and appreciate people from other countries who love and appreciate our country and it's patriotism. ❤ Thanks, Kabir, for your appreciation of America and it's patriotism!
This is my favorite song, no matter what version that plays, but this one from Home Free, Lee Greenwood and the Air Force singers is the best version in my opinion.
I used to own a Country Western Bar here in Germany and my DJ always opened the evening with this beautiful song. It still grabs me and I get teary eyed. 🖤💖💛/💖🤍💙
LEE GREENWOOD wrote GOD BLESS THE USA in 1984 and has been performing it at Baseball and Football games most often on the 4TH OF JULY - AMERICA'S INDEPENDENCE DAY. This version with HOME FREE also includes the United States Air Force Singing Sergeants. You noted "I GOT CHILLS" listening to this rendition. Well US AMERICANS GET CHILLS EVERY TIME WE HEAR THIS SONG. It is as dear to us as GOD BLESS AMERICA and THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER!! In addition to CHILLS I get TEARS listening to these Patriotic songs and this one is no exception ........ 😄😍🥰😎
Me too Friend! There was no war or conflict at the time. Lee just felt compelled to write and sing it. Amazing how one voice could Awaken the spirit of our Country. '87 I was in bootcamp and on Sundays you could leave your " house " ( Barracks) to attend Church. They would either play this song or sometimes a woman with an AMAZING voice would sing it. We sang along, I could never get thru it without choking up. It hit home just how BLESSED we are to be Americans. I cannot finish this post without whole heartedly thanking our Allies who served BRAVELY along side us over the years! ESPECIALLY after 9/11. When we where dropped to one knee from that terrorist blow, you stood beside us ! I thank you and Salute you all!
@johndalessandro6433 I was in bootcamp in 87 also. They didn't play that on Sundays though. My CCs (DIs but Navy) broke the rules and we could go back and nap after church and breakfast
It is remarkable that this song was released almost four decades ago and Lee Greenwood appears to have lost nothing of his voice. He is amazing! Pairing with Home Free was genius and, as a USAF Veteran, I am so proud of how these airmen have represented their country.
I have seen too many recently using the FOX version of the video - their title only says "Lee Greenwood, US soldiers" - instead of the HF one or even the US Air Force Band's, which reduces views for HF. I think Orchard needs to get after FOX instead of the reactors it's been chasing lately.
Stationed at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C., The Singing Sergeants is one of six musical ensembles from The United States Air Force Band ...
Kabir - Home Free is a great group. Lee sounded great for 75! Home Free minus Lee and the soldiers had done the song earlier in front of Mt. Rushmore. Lee wanted to do it again. So he got together with Home Free and they enlisted the US Air Force Singing Sergeants (everyone in uniform). This was during Covid so they all gathered in different cities to do it. Adam (Home Free’s beatboxer) was doing drums and then a jet at the end. Incredible song! Thank you for doing it!🥰
Very much so. I recommend their video Home Away From Home Fishing and Fundraising. I think that one was their first in the Home Away From Home series. It's a great video with a wonderful for a good cause.

He was born in 1933, just 1 of 12 children, in the coal camps in NW Virginia.. Lied at 17 to join the Air Force. (He was tired of being hungry, sleeping 6 to a bed and someone would always pee. The addition of Home Free and the U.S. Air Force band elevates the song to a whole new level. This version is also acapella. If you haven't heard of Home Free - dive down the rabbit hole. They sing covers, originals (2 of them are song writers) and almost every genre, including collaborations with legends such as Kenny Rogers, Don McLean and Alabama among others.
Adam Chance is also a song writer. He has written some with The Hound and The Fox the most recent being "Whistling Lad". He also writes some of his own material for his own channel.
I'm proud to say that i've met Lee Greenwood. He is truly an All-American individual with a sense of humbleness about his stardom. A genuinely good person.

Then they also added the military singers on it as well making it even more special. Lee was the man that sang first...the 5 guys in plain clothes are the group Home Free and of course the soldiers in camo.
