- This time I show you how to photograph diving kingfishers. I used several techniques, including using a remote control, the MIOPS Smart Trigger and others. I will explain which method worked best for me, how I achieved that. In the end I have a series of photos which were the result of this diving kingfisher project. Hope this video is useful in getting yours! And do not forget to check out the other videos in my kingfisher project :)

Thanks Jeroen, I have developed a love for photographing our Kingfishers here in Australia. Elusive but rewarding when photographed well. Love your obvious passion and enthusiasm
Thank you for the amazing insight. Kingfisher Photography is so interesting, but for me it's hard to get atleast close enough for a normal shot. But I see your a real pro at this topic. Keep up the great work.

Some perfect shots there. and again a good leading explanation. thank you for your work.
Thanks again Fred! :) Have any kingfisher species over there in Japan?
@@weylintracking-worldwide . Oh yes, they are around. Named Kawasemi (common Kingfisher)over here. I see them flying around but have not yet found one perching to hunt.
Beautiful! I've never seen a kingfisher, but your images are great.
You sure there is not a species of kingfisher where you live? There are species all around the earth.
A very enjoyable informative video, beautiful images thank you I will watch it often.
Thanks so much Michael! Enjoy the rest of the videos :)

Thanks Andrew! Share the results :)
Je maakt geweldige video's Jeroen. Complimenten!!
Dank je Richard! Had nu ook wel een prachtig onderwerp :)
Thanks for sharing the talents you've been blessed with! I just found my first Belted Kingfisher this summer by the river near our home in Minnesota. I was able to take a few horrible pictures, however I instantly fell in love with the birds. Thanks for the tips, I'll be out searching again, once it warms up next spring... God bless.
Thanks so much Kirk Asplin! Wish you a lot of luck and fun with these amazing birds :) Did you see the other kingfisher vlogs? Might have some useful tips for you :)
@@weylintracking-worldwide
Yes I did watch at least one other kingfisher vlog of yours. Very helpful. I'll be trying the branch hanging over the water trick. In fact I think I watched about 15 of your videos (maybe more) last night. I'm addicted! 👍
Great playlist about my favorite bird. I hope to get some amazing shops this spring/summer. Hope the winter in southern Germany is not too hard that the kingfishers around my hometown survive.
I hope to benefit from your great tips then.
Glad to hear that you enjoyed the video Dietmar! Hope it will work out for you! I hope to return to the kingfishers also this year.
Just found your you-tube channel and I am really enjoying your content, amazing photos of the kingfisher.
Welcome to the channel Paul! You have some catching up to do ;)
Love you videos. Just started kingfisher photography at my home.
Thanks Paul! Hope my videos are useful to you! Good luck with these awesome birds!
Wow wow wow. Wat een geweldige platen en top video.!!!! Mijn complimenten.

Much appreciated andy allard! Welcome to the channel!
Great photo's man!
Thanks Ra!
Awesome job Jeroen, that was so exciting to watch. I have never seen one of these birds. They are so colorful. I am going to look into a better remote for my camera. I love how you did that. Thank you for the great photos and video.
Thanks Sandra! Where on the world do you live? This species is common in Europe. But there's quite a few other species around the world. Amazing birds :)
@@weylintracking-worldwide I live in Iowa, the midwest in the states. I just looked it up. It said there should be Belted Kingfisher that pass through my area. I guess I will have to keep my eyes open. I would love to see and photograph one of these birds.
There is a group on Facebook, 'kingfishers of the world'. Maybe someone there can help you!
@@weylintracking-worldwide Thank you, I will check it out.
Fantastic video
Much appreciated Gaëtan Lortie!

Noce job 👍🏽
Stunning, simply stunning. Really do appreciate the time and effort you put into your Vlogs it has been inspirational to me, makes me want to get off my arse and try out some ideas i have myself. Thank you.
John
Good to hear that John! And you got so many oppurtunities there... I soooo want to try and photograph foxes at necropolis for example...
@@weylintracking-worldwide Oh urban foxes now there is something i hadn't really thought much about, yet again an inspiration, thank you sir.
The necropolis is well worth a visit even if it is only for a walk around looking at the old gavestones, i think the cemetery dates back to about 1830ish not sure, and it is bound to have foxes somewhere can't be that old and not have life in it. ;)
Take care
It's quite a special place... With a nice sunset or rise you might be able to get some really special photos of wildlife on a gravestone... Recently tried the same here. But the wildlife did not cooperate, haha. You might have seen the vlog :)
Very nice video, thank you very much for sharing!
Thank you very much!
Very inspiring!!! Ontzettend mooi!!! Ik voel uw enthousiasme. Great video(s)
Dank je Vincent! Er staan nog wat meer video's op het kanaal. Wellicht zit er nog wat bij van je gading :)
Excellent work. How did you find the location? Certainly a winner. Were you using the fixed camera for the later tight shots? If so, you should buy up lottery tickets!
Thank you Edward!
This is in the garden of a friend. This episode is one from a series. Do check out the others for the full story!
In the end I got a pretty good idea where the kingfishers were diving. So I zoomed in more, and just prayed that one would be in focus :)
I will be back there next year if they are breeding again :)
top week Jeroen
Sure was Benjamin! Thanks again!
Nice misty morning always a good start. I feel you need a fish tank sunk in a particular spot but don't kill any birds with the tank edges. I think I have seen all the conceivable possibilities now underwater catching fish, just breaking the water, fish pass, fish slap every photo is unique though great stuff, people must be appreciating all your efforts well done. Great shots in the end
Thanks Mark! I did not used a fish tank... So I had a lot of misses as they are diving all over the place...
Have some AMAZING shots, but, they are not in focus... Hopefully next time!
Oh, this is all still with the a7iii also. Imagine if I used the a7r4...
@@weylintracking-worldwide I was thinking about this problem Jeroen - I have put my idea in a sketch. It seems that the birds will dive to where they find fish easiest to see. By placing a large pale coloured tile under the perch to the distance you have set focus for it could help. There is no extra risk to the fish - it just makes the fish more visible to the hunter. i68.servimg.com/u/f68/12/66/16/43/annota96.png
I will dive into this in the last vlog! Thanks! :)
Nice trick!
Thanks Shane!
Great video, i have to go back and watch the others now!. What shutter speed speed brings on to much noise generally? Like over 1/2000th? Or is it just dependent on the other settings too? . A mate suggested noise removing software topazlabs makes. Might help.
Yes, flying birds something like 1/2000th of a second. The motion blur option of Topazlabs SharpenAI is awesome too! I have a video about that. It has a double bird head on the thumbnail. It includes a discount code so be sure to check it out!
Awesome job!!!
Jim
Thanks again Jim!
Jeroen Kloppenburg - Wildlife Photography I have never seen one let alone taken photo of one:-0). Great work.
There are kingfisher species around the world. Where do you live Jim?
Jeroen Kloppenburg - Wildlife Photography we are in Delaware USA near SE Pennsylvania
Ahh, this species of kingfisher is not there... But there are species around the world. There are some groups on Facebook that might be useful, like 'kingfishers of the world' '...
Brilliant to see no tank or live bait used! Cool!!
I don't like to use bait... Prefer to settle in where the animals are doing their natural thing :)
Patience and perseverance paid off on that project Jeroen. Another great video. What is your preferred metering mode?
Light metering you mean I assume?
Will get into that then, thanks!
Yes matrix, spot etc
Super gemacht gefällt mir außerordentlich gut habe vor kurzem auch das Vergnügen mit einem Kingfisher gehabt MFG Peter Preis
Danke Peter!
Hi Jerome, I to have a Miops they work fine under studio conditions as the laser target area is very small, also lasers seem to be unreliable as they seem to switch off by themselves, I use the Hahnel Cuptur Pro which comes with a IR transmitter and seems to trigger without any problem.
I had problems outside with sunny conditions and changing light indeed...
Awesome stuff Jeroen. May I know your settings for in-flight/diving shots? Also any tips will be appreciated. Im shooting handheld with the A7iii and have the 200-600 + 1.4 tc... there's a resident kingfisher in a huge pond area that dives in different spots..but I'm way too slow with diving and taking off (not sure when its going to take off and hands get tired after waiting). Portraits no problem.
I used so many settings Nehal... The thumbnail shot was much lower shutterspeed since the bird does not have a high speed yet. But 1/2000th is the minimum. Preferably higher depending on what kind of ISO you can accept...
Nehal, I'm trying to get the diving shot also using Sony gear. The A7 III does not have tracking but the less performant "Locked on AF". When you try to shot a small bird as fast as a kingfisher, you need al the AF capibilities your camera has, so I would advice to absolutely remove the tc. Not only the tc makes you loose detail and stop(s) of light, but what is more important here and certainly with the A7 III, you loose some AF performance.
Magnificent images Jeroen, they really are superb, well worth all your efforts, so pleased you perused the project. What’s the next project? 😂. So was the MIOPS totally useless? Paul 👍😎
Busy with little owls still, and and beech marten... Enough to do ;)
Wil get into the miops in the next vlog :)
Great stuff again Jeroen..... I wanted to check out your gear specs., but the link doesn't seem to be working for me.
I indeed removed the website as i stopped making these vlogs. Sorry!
Geweldig zeg👍
Dank je Maarten!
Dank Maarten!
Volgende week probeer ik deel 1 van ons otter avontuur in Schotland klaar te hebben...
Why do they have to add music to this video don't understand
'They' is just me Bernard :) I did so as I felt it was adding to the quality of the video. Not everything might suit everyone's taste. But I appreciate all feedback I get! As I DO try to learn and improve along the way :)
Thanks for your feedback!
mooi !!!
Dank je Leon!
Some great photos. Your property? If so you just leave the blind set up?
From a friend, so I can leave the tent out there indeed :)
when Is the best time to photograph Kingfishers? any tips?
When they have young, then they need to hunt for fish tenfold :)
Awesome video !! 👍
Can you please give the link or name of the background music track ? I really like it !
I had three... Animals Assasins - where angles tread. Kevin Bean - willow cease and Matthew Fisher - better togheter. All from Audiio.com.

Have you listened to this yourself you only hear music and a mumbling
I did, and although I don't want to say it has perfect audio editing (I learned much since), I do not get the same feedback from many others René...
