    So funny Brother from another mother I have a Gecko travel canon but it looks a little more like a thicker box. that I bought years and years ago. I really should dig it out and add it to my portable rig ha ha. Nice job and it’s a lot of fun. You reminded me of that
    I love your disclaimer “i am not a percussionist I just dabble”. That is literally my motto lol. Also you can put those things you buy in bed and bath to mine the drawers. They are like a think woven rubber. And you can cut them to your desired size. Dulcimer players use them if they don’t want to wear a strap.

      I could add that disclaimer to all my videos. LOL. I'm not a guitarist, I'm not a keyboardist, I'm not a vocalist. I just dabble in everything but I have fun.

      You can play this portable cajon like a regular full size cajon. Angle it downwards and nestle it between your lower legs. Sort of like bongo players do. Now that it's not muted or muffled from your lap, the sound will amplify and sound like a full size cajon.

    I’m waiting to see what you will do with it next! How about adding an humbucker to pickup up the movement of the snares?

    • @musicalmiscellany
      @musicalmiscellany  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually thought of that but I think you'll miss out on too much of the thump. It might need a piezo on the underside.... maybe both.

    Ok. I enjoyed your video. I bought this off of eBay. Several brand names sport this very same super compact portable cajon. You can play it on both sides. I can imagine everyone that loves to jam on tables could benefit from this. If you belong to band forget toting that heavy oversized snare drum. Look no further because you can put this in a locker or a book bag. Take it on a Subway or anywhere. The one thing you didn't know about this instrument is you could actually place it between your legs just like a regular Cajon. Yes you could actually play this portable cajon sandwiched between your lower legs like a full size one. When's it's played on your lap it's muted because of your legs. Now play it nestled between your lower legs and it will sound almost like a full size size cajon. Yup!!!

    Sounds awful. Thanks for the heads up. I love your videos. FYI, I bought a cheap violin from Amazon for a DIY project and found the body to sound better than any cajon I ever played. Who knew?

    Not a bad price for it. I used a large cigar box to make a similar one and added a strap last year for a Mardi Gras parade our ukulele group was marching in. Illness kept me from attending the parade but I do like it and hopefully next Mardi Gras I'll use it. I thought about making another one with a piezo, small amp and speaker. Then again, I'm not a percussionist either so I probably don't want to distract the other players.

      @musicalmiscellany  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, there's nothing special to it. I kinda expected more, but it's just a box with some guitar strings inside. Pretty easy to duplicate. Thanks for watching Bob.

      Good to hear. It doesn't sound like a full box cajon, but for what it costs... I can't complain. Good luck.

    Cool and a great eye deer. Sounds pretty good. Hmmm. How would a home made one sound?

    • @musicalmiscellany
      @musicalmiscellany  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great idea. It's effectively a wood box with a couple guitar strings for snares. It shouldn't be too hard to make.

  • @kunaikai
    @kunaikai ปีที่แล้ว

    I’d be very interested if you were to amp it with a piezo pickup. And maybe try playing it with some cajon brushes or even wire brushes.

    • @musicalmiscellany
      @musicalmiscellany  ปีที่แล้ว

      It might actually sound closer to a full-size cajon when mic'd with a piezo. It doesn't have that big box resonance but it would probably hold up pretty well. Thanks for the idea.

      Thanks for checking out the video. I can understand your opinion. It just doesn't have the low end thump like a traditional cajon. It certainly adds a percussive element but it lacks the bass punch.

      @@musicalmiscellany well, I am also looking for something more responsive, that I can use plastic brushes on and mount to a washboard.
      So, what i am looking for is hard to find anyway, especially without physically playing one.
      But videos like yours are really helpful and appreciated.
      Thank you!
