      Hey, no harm done Ron!
      Bloody freezing here - one of the added problems we have with planting in containers etc.
      I really wanted to get the rest of my spuds in to the pots & bags today. Problem is, they'd be okay for a few days but I'd be shivering my socks off doing it!

    I have three of these plug trays and find it a great way to produce plug plants.

    Hi mate. Looks like a great product. Will be interesting to see how they do. Like the idea of being able to push the plugs up from below. Take care. Nick

      A bit pricey at £15 (eBay or Amazon) but I reckon it will last quite a few years - very robust.

    these new innovations are fantastic, but for me could never work, I use an unheated greenhouse which means you have to be careful with the watering, so capillary attraction has to be out for me. but all in all this vid has to be the goal for loads of like minded people..............brian

      Hi Brian,
      I have no real greenhouse, just a small hexagonal polythene thing 60cm diameter - which is full of shallots at present. My heated propagators are full so I'm giving this thing a go.
      I'm a big fan of making the plants seek out the water so watering from below is good (for me) - needless to say, I still need to be mindful of overwatering and saturating the compost.

    Many thanks Steve, I'm just using one of these, for the first time, to propagate some fuchsia cuttings.
    I'm a little concerned about how much water to put in the base; I don't want to overdo it, but at the same time it obviously needs to be enough for the water to get taken up into the plugs.
    Any advice would be great.
    Thanks,
    Mike

      No problem Mike. I fill the base of mine to the brim and leave it for an hour. Then I carefully pour away what is left. The plugs themselves sit quite high on the base so a bit of water left won't hurt.
      Hope this helps

      Digwell Greenfingers brilliant idea, thank you so much, I was vacillating between too much and too little, not realising that there was a third way. So cool, they take what they need and then you take it away. It's just like giving your dog the right amount in his food bowl; give him too much and he'll just eat it all, that's what my wife tells me anyway 😂

      Digwell Greenfingers out of interest, around 6 of my 49 cuttings appear to be dying, could this be caused by overwatering?

    • @MikeFloutier
      @MikeFloutier 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Digwell Greenfingers also, how often would you repeat your watering process; ie filling the base and leaving 1 hour.

      @@MikeFloutier When it appears dry Mike, I judge mine by the weight.

    How does it water from the bottom if the plugs are sitting on top of the posts??

    • @DigwellGreenfingers
      @DigwellGreenfingers  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2 side supports suspend the top over the plugs by a few millimeters so water can wick up into the compost
