- Can I Save the Grunt family in The Sims 2? Welcome back to Strangetown! In this fun Sims 2 gameplay video, we take over the Grunt family in an attempt to give everyone the life they deserve.
The goal of this video is to keep the entire family as happy as possible. Our success (or lack thereof) will mainly be based on how many wants we manage to complete for each family member, how well they do at work/school, the completion of various other milestones that we'll attempt throughout the video, as well as the overall level of wholesomeness. Considering the family dynamics on display, this will be a massive challenge but is it one I'm up for? Find out today!

To be honest, I never really saw Buzz Grunt as a horrible dad. Just an overwhelmed one : he just divorced, then his ex (and mom of his kids) dies suddenly and mysteriously. He's now a single parent even more (no one to co parent with him), perhaps still the grief of his divorce and he now has three heartbroken boys.
It's easier with Tank as they are so similar and Buck, well, he's still so little, his character is still building up. But Ripp is the one most like his mother, both in appearance and aspiration. In my games, either he has a great relationship with all of his sons or if he isn't that close to Ripp, they are on good terms.
I grew up as an Army Brat so I tended to gravitate towards Military stuff when I was younger. Probably the reason why this was my favorite premade family in Sims 2.

Malcolm and Nervous being mad at each other makes so much sense! Malcolm is from one of the shadiest families in the Sims' franchise and Nervous is a very successful lawyer, there's probably a lawsuit that Malcolm doesn't want Nervous to fight! As for the weird vibes of the pool and the weird room... I would say that a lot the neighbourhood was part of some weird Military facility, somehow... the room seems like an interrogation/torture chamber :| Thank you yet again for posted and making my weekend a bit more bearable

While playing TS2 I always considered the possibility of Tank being gay.
Then when he goes to the university i think he sees that like a way of personal freedom. He can be who he trully are without worrying about his father.

I feel like most people make him gay and closeted because of his dad. It ends up being a really sweet, realistic story.

Your Grunt house is much more wholesome than what I ended up with hahaha. Ripp's not on good terms with Buzz or Tank but he's very close to Buck. He ran off to college when he aged up to get away from the family. Tank skipped college and is still in the military from when he was a teen but I think I might have him switch careers next round. Buck wanted a puppy so they adopted Benny. And then we get to General Buzz. Or should I say... Private Buzz. I got a chance card day 1 and I picked terribly wrong. Buzz got demoted from level 10 all the way back to level 1. Tank outranks him. I was devastated. But then he met Bella Goth and had a lot of chemistry with her so now I'm thinking about trying to get them together.
Yeah I feel like the family dynamics can fall apart VERY quickly 🥲 Love your gameplay tho, even if some of the members are perhaps a bit traumatized haha, Buzz’s career going downhill definitely wasn’t on my bingo card 😳

Similar as you, in the game, I also try to repair the relationships between the father and the sons. Tank is still following military career, Ripp is following music career, Buck is more to scientist when he turns adult later. I made Tank had secret interest on writing novels to fulfil his bio.
But I never make Ripp had lot of dates 😂 just four family member try their best to repair relationship after the divorce and Lyla's death.

I have played this family multiple times but in my most interesting save file Buzz got fired due to a chance card pretty early. So, he decided to join the politics career instead, but he was unpopular because of his racist views towards aliens. Then he romanced his co-worker, Lola Singles (Curious) and got married to her as an attempt to clear his image. Buck quietly left the house to marry Jill, and moved in with the Smith family. Tank got pretty mad at his dad’s marriage, him and Buzz had a huge fight and he too left the house,however couldn’t find a job some time and started struggling. Buck and good ol’ Paul(Pol.tech) felt sorry for Tank despite everything, and Tank briefly moved in with them. Soon after he was able to join the military. Buzz and Lola also had a son and he became the symbol of Buzz’s reformed personality. Buzz quickly rose to the mayor position. Obviously him being changed was a huge facade and soon after he became the mayor his mask dropped.
Meanwhile Tank had also risen ranks in the military thanks both to his dedication and Buzz’s influence. After finding out Buzz’s real plans he ended up betraying the Smiths and teamed up with his dad & helped him to ensure his dictatorship. I also realized I dont even remember what happened to Ripp, which is weird because normally he is my go-to sim in my other saves
At this point I stopped playing because it has literally become 1984 lmao

In my gameplays, Buzz usually remarries pretty fast. He has high chemistry with Crystal Vu, and they make an ok couple. I like paring Tank with Stella Terrano in uni, I think it's ironic that he ends up falling for an alien. In my mind, Ripp is aggresively bisexual and in some kind of throuple with Ophelia and Johnny, I think it's an interesting dynamic. And Buck obviously ends up with Jill, there's no other way.

In my Game Tank always marry Kristen Singles
I also never viewed Buzz as a terrible dad, just strict. And that didn't align with Ripp, so they never got along much. For whatever reason I always made Buck gay, and let me tell you he does age up into a wonderful twink. I recently had Kristen Singles marry General Buzz. She had dreams to become a sports star, so her goals in life and high athletic skill made her a good match for him. Ripp is still in college in my game, I believe I made him study philosophy just cause he knew his father would hate it. And Tank just aged up and married his high school gf and moved out to live out his military dad suburban dreams.
Buzz was raised in a military way, in strictness and violence. He was being prepared for the military and legacy continuation since his birth. And he doesn’t know how to raise his kids on other ways. There was only one boy in the Grunt lineage before Buzz. One boy - one heir, who must be the General and give the military traditions for future generations. First was General Rock, second was General Chip and third, now, is General Buzz. Buzz took the same way for Tank to make him his successor. And it could be ok if there weren’t two troubles. These two troubles have names - Ripp and Buck, his two other sons. Seems that Buzz didn’t want them, and they were unwanted for him. And Buzz doesn’t understand that… times are changing. The new generation is coming. And this new generation wants to change. You can’t persuade ask your kids to make them follow your footsteps. Everyone is unique. And everyone wants to go by their ways.
But still, I have respect for Buzz. He’s a tough guy with tough aims, but also justified, who will never tolerant betrayal, who wants a respect and make his family number one - the most powerful family in neighbourhood, who will never be a fool dancing in the strings of all these big shots. It can be crazy, but he really seems like a Godfather of the Sims.
In my game, Buzz had never visited Olive Specter. He tried to train Ripp and Buck but the youngest one didn't want to, so Ripp also refused. The remedy for Buzz was...love. I made a mother and a daughter which I moved into this household, explaining that they were lost and Buzz had found them during his military mission. He fell for the mother, Tank fell for the daughter and went to college with her. Father became much softer and more understanding but firstly, his second wife was the first one to break the ice between this family. Ripp was always staying home, no college. In my game he ended up single/with Stella Terrano or with Lola Singles. Buck was friends with Jill Smith. So in general, a bit of love, fresh air in the household and all of them are happier than ever.

I started a new strangetown a few weeks ago and I also put the Picasso family in because I thought it would make sense. General Buzz rolled as gay and through ACR he’s been having a passionate affair with Matthew Picasso lol :D they have three bolts!!!
The Grunt family is honestly one of my favorite families, I also always gravitate towards Ripp. I think I even let my sim self marry him once. I just love to play them

I remember that when I was a kid, Ripp ran away from home, so things looked a bit like the Pleasant family. Now, everytime I start a new game, Buzz autonomously reads to Buck and the brothers get along! Tank is also interested in science, so I let him be happy at uni.

The episode started chaotic but ended wholesome :) I haven't played this family so much, but this is exactly how my plan was to play them when I start with Strangetown!! Makes me so happy that Buzz really tried to understand Ripp and his love for music, aww and the brothers bonding was so so sweet :)

Yay, new video about one of my most favorite families!
Been a while since I played in Strangetown, but I used to just focus on Tank and Buzz and just ignore Ripp and Buck, oops. I know many people headcanon Tank as secretly having a soft side to him, but I always have him follow his father's footsteps as a military man and turn him into a family man (better than Buzz is in the beginning of the game). Ripp really takes the spotlight in this video (and I ship him with Hailey). He is going to be such a player in colege. I think Buck already shows some fascination for Strangetown mysteries (like Bella Goth), so maybe his paths will eventually cross with either Curious brothers or our fave evil power couple.
Buzz randomly barging into Ripp's room, vibing to music and leaving is a peak Dad moment, ngl. Oh and I really liked that sudden liminal space vibe.

At 19:32 when you're talking about how weird the lot is, I totally agree. I get that it's supposed to be strange because it's Strangetown, but I just hate that lot. I even have a makeover for the lot on ModtheSims because I hate it that much lol
I’ve been playing a lot with Ripp lately. I randomly loaded him into a group of college students and he instantly became one of my faves. He went for fine art because that’s where all the ladies are at but he ended up succeeding in business and ultimately became a leader of a sex cult 😂
It was an incredible experience to watch until the end! buzz later playing the guitar when the son wasn't there was surprising, I had a lot of fun.

love the video and this series!! im always tuned in pretty much as soon as I see you post it. I was literally on vacation in a hotel with my friend when you posted the pleasant family one and was like "dont judge me but I have to watch this sims 2 storyline video NOW" lol
honestly I never really played the Grunt family! not sure why, I think as a kid the face paint just freaked me out lol. and maybe the all boy family, coming from a family of all girls maybe I just wasn't interested as much? but ill have to play them one day

Also can somewhat relate, I avoided Strangetown in general when I was a kid, it was probably a bit over the top but it really grew on me. The Grunts are super fun because there’s a bunch of different gameplay options you can do and they’re great for storytelling purposes

I don't remember how I played this family last time. Sometimes Buzz's wife comes to life again, sometimes is more or less like this video (the most common), sometimes the sons hate their father bacause he is so strict.

First off, I removed the hideous facial paint. Then, I kept Tank under a strong influence from his father, and made Ripp play music, too. According to his bio, I think Buck is gay and very closeted, apart from being ignored by his father. So, Buzz makes pressure on Tank, fights with Ripp and neglects Buck, thus being a shitty father towards the three of his kids. Fun begins at college: I had Tank and Johnny in the same household, Johnny is now engaged to Ophelia (whom Tank had a crush on, remember), and they would fight ALL THE TIME. They came home from class at the same time and would start a fistfight every single time, I swear. Then came Ripp and Tank would fight him, too, being more trained and violent.
Ripp cheated on his gf... with Tank's gf, causing him to get beaten by the latter. After college Ripp headed off to be a sex n drugs and rock n roll kind of musician, with plenty of money, a house full of trashy deco, and brief marriages, I remeber writing RIPP N ROLL in his yard with bushes lol. Tank married Linda, Ripp's ex gf, out of mutual discomfort from the cheating, but they never really loved eachother and had a very unhappy marriage. They lived in General's home and had four kids (I had so much fun with their names): Colt, initiated by his granfather to the military career as much as Tank was; Daisy, who only had her mother, a housewife, as example and couldn't develop a better aspiration; Gunn, who would soon walk the steps of uncle Ripp, much to his parents dismal; and Betty Sue, the last child and real heir of Buzz's military legacy, despite being ignored and dismissed from everyone like Buck was. She will be the only Grunt to become General after General Buzz: Tank, in fact, got fired after a wrong chance card and diverted his career to Law Enforcement, realizing the biggest fear caused by the codependency with his father: letting him down. Tired of living in that barracks-like house and frustrated, Linda finally found herself a lover; Colt got an alien girlfriend, Johnny's niece I think, which his father didn't approve; Ripp gave Gunn a guitar as gift and took him under his wing, only to find him with his wife: he learned too well. Daisy married Tesla Beaker, Loki and Circe's son, started making babies and being a housewife just like her mother, until she found Tesla in the hot tub with Sirius: Vidcund's alien son. Oh, yes: he was gay all the way. Realizing she settled for less and everything she was ever told was a lie, she took the kids, found a job and changed her life.
General Buzz finally passed away living a huge void in Tank's life: Ripp came along at the funeral to spoil the fun and they started to fight over which one let him down the most. Buck tried to make peace. Slowly, after General's death, his sons became to feel more and more free to be themselves. After hating eachother all their life and throwing hands all college, as old men Tank and Johnny got closer and finally became friends. Tank realized how much of a dick his father really was, and Johnny replied that HIS father was sometimes, too.
Maaaan what a novel! I was happy to share it with you, tho x) I had SO MUCH FUN playing Strangetown.
This started off relatively chill and actually somewhat similar to how I played them here, and then it spiralled af, LOVE it hahaha

Early 🙏 As you can tell by my pfp I love this family. Personally I make Tank gay, Ripp bi and Buck becomes Rebecca and is trans. Tank ends up following his real dream of ballet dancing and Ripp becomes a rock star. I also make General Buzz befriend his kids again and become a better person. He’s even married to an alien now in my game! (Lola)
Also I like Ripp and Lilith together (I have an Uberhood) or Johnny-Ripp-Ophelia polycule

Nice! i wonder if Buck and his 'friend' will become more than friends. General Buzz always seemed like a total dick to almost everyone, but seeing him mellow is a very nice version of him.

They did go to college soon-ish and thanks to Sims logic I’ll make them both start at the same time at the beginning of the 2nd rotation, to keep things more organised for the videos. Sadly, Ripp spent the $500 a long time ago, on the guitar 🥲 (selling the pc wasn’t enough on its own), very much in character I suppose haha, as for Buck getting in shape, I think Buzz has become much more chill and accepting so it’ll be up to Buck himself if he’ll want to work out or not

I never play the sims 2 by the story, I can turn the dad's Grunt into a witch and make his own bakery company for homeless plant sims who has lost their income due to automatised garden.
