The footage around relics showing at 59:48 is one of the most terrifying things I've seen in this game. Who on earth is going to open over 8000 relics.
Would be nice to have a void node/nodes where every prime part drops so vaulted parts are at least still obtainable but at significantly slower rate than opening relics
48:07 - It’s not too different from the players nowadays try to sneak in int for radshares (or vice versa) or just use different relics entirely. Granted, it may be rarer than back then, but the hustle never truly died.
I'm new to WF started like few months ago, found out your channel by searching for WF stuff like most beginners do. Your long ass videos are great and i love it and watch almost all of it but one weird thing i must say. Your voice put me to sleep every time when i stressed out and couldn't fall a sleep. I don't know why but do take that as a compliment Tenno. Thank you..
I'm early, as a newbie thank you Nova for the content provided. Some of them really does help in my journey to build my newly acquired baruuk from the circuit
While there was a time I was jealousy for those who has Founder pack or start early but after see so much struggle they went through I'm just glad I'm playing late because if I were to start with them I'd just leave and never comeback...
The days of frost and Rhino! I miss them so much. Just the other day I sold the pile of rhino systems I had left from key farming. I don’t think there is much left from that grind but again, I miss it so much
It's been wild playing this game since it came out (regretting not 'investing' in excal prime) and seeing how much it has changed and coming back after years.
You perfectly showed the period of warframe, i started to play, put 1000 of hours in and left the game then eventually. Only to return now and being completely upset, that my old techniques dont work anymore! :D
I started warframe not so long ago, got sucked in, im mr15 now, and i really love your videos, i like learning about how things were. Makes me appreciate the game even more.
Supposedly void keys (as an inventory item) had lore in their descriptions. Speaking of lore that new players can't access... I wish one-time lore events got added to the Ludoplex since you'd have a score attack version and a way to experience the lore, all in one. Gradicua Dilemma, Tubemen of Regor, I can think of a few that new players (especially ones that care about lore) are missing out on due to the fact that they can't play it.
I remember the days of hour-long T4 defense. Part of me misses them because of being able to get so much milage from one key. Part of me still hates every frost I see with a burning passion for how fucking much time I spent around them.
My one regret from my early Warframe career was never figuring out how to farm keys myself, and only just popping in whenever people were hosting the keys I needed. I've since made a point of planning relic farms these days, but it's something that's still going to be a sad point.
Glad I was of help, and thanks for the shoutout! Honestly watching this basically gave me Vietnam flashbacks, the drop rates were definitely not the best thing. But it did make me miss void keys, it was a different time for sure. What we currently have is far better than what it was, it took a long time for relics to be implemented but the wait was worth it in some weird way. Unvaulting isn't something you have to worry about anymore when trying to get the new shiny stuff, and everyone puts in their penny instead of having to rely on other people being trustworthy. The only thing I really do miss for void keys is having to only spend one key to get as many rewards as you want or have the patience to get, now it's a one for one system which does increase the grind but that's the trade off I guess, especially with being able to get something every 5 intervals of waves or time compared to the old slog. I also remember how god awful it was to trade back in the day, the most expensive prime was Loki prime at the solid price of 600p, a lot of frames where way more expensive back in the day due to the vaulting system and difficulty of getting specific parts due to them only being available in certain missions. So you sadly couldn't go to all your favorite game modes to farm the thing you were missing or about to be vaulted. I do wish they implemented something more with the Void though, the Void was definitely special back in the day, being the sole place for getting anything prime (excluding Derelict, those were weird times), it just doesn't feel the same way it did. Personally I'm hoping they implement some type of void trace farm for the Void one day just so that it can have that special feeling of being unique again. Amazing video, and well researched. Fantastic work as always.
Watching all this really made me realize I came relatively late in this lifecycle of insanity. When I first got into warframe (something like 2016 iirc), the only keys i knew about were the Void Derelict keys (the ones you needed to even access the nodes) and the Dragon keys for the vaults. I remember asking a friend to help me get there because I wanted to farm resources easier. Man, what a different time 😔 I miss those days
I know you mentioned it's nostalgia, but to hone in on that "we were new tenno" line. I loved the old Keys Endless farms, sewers survival, and even better the defense strats. Warframe being new meant being there as the metas formed, and it felt special when the meta for Defense wasn't to bring the best AoE weapon, because we didn't have one. We posted up in the frost bubble and Loki master race spent the entire time disarming everything that dared spawn in. I miss keys. I love being able to target farm with Relics, but Keys really were something special.
As someone who’s had a struggle farming an Aklex Prime Link, I thought of a Relic update while watching this video: Taking any unrefined Relic to Varzia, you can pay Aya, Credits, Ducats, or some combination of such to weight any one Relic of your choice towards a reward you choose. However, this can only be done once per TIER of Relic, not including Requiems, and possibly be on a Daily/Weekly reset, meaning you can’t weight all your dice at once. Copy the same to Palladino for Requiem Relics, but replace Aya with Kuva.
Just seen this was posted and I'm actually extremely excited to watch this. I think about the things in the game back then but I never remember much in detail, so this will hit hard for sure.
Honestly I do miss the old system, I was always an endurance player anyway so liked doing really long missions, I know it was a huge grind too, but damn was it fun
Facts, I remember farming survival and hitting 3hr run for the first time not even knowing and just bsing with my buddies on Xbox… the good old days.. I wish they’d bring keys back cause it was sm fun and the true end game
Same, Defense Void farming was my favorite activity, and I mained Frost. I lost a lot of motivation because of the random mission nature of the caches.
I still have a screenshot about a T4 survival we did with my friend. We were pushing our limits, how far we can go on a survival and managed to hit the 85 minute mark. And for that our reward was 3 silver fusion cores.
I like to think DE has better customer now a days, except on the forums. (Forums Customer Service is useless, because it is 3rd party and not DE so they know nothing about the game. They just make sure you do not bully or troll on the forums) I started playing in between Angels and Veilbreaker, so I only know the current version of WF. When I started players still needed to wear sigils to get faction affinity. Glad that was changed to current format during my first 2 months of playing. Thank you @NovaUmbral for being the go to content creator for history lessons on my current favorite game. I'm soon to be MR 24 and have barely touched Steel Path. Your videos and especially one as in depth as this video are gratefully enjoyed.
Man, it did feel weird properly returning after a long time to discover not only bosses dropped sigils, but that now the syndicate ones no longer did anything (played on console around 2018-19 period, before Uranus stopped me cause I was too stubborn to do any of the missions solo and couldn't start the natah quest)
@@Mr.Negativo yeah, now you pledge directly to a syndicate screen in orbiter however, now that also means literally all of them are pretty much useless besides fashion
>Backlog. Dude, I had like three-hundred Keys before the Relics replaced them and now it might be over two-thousand Relics. Why do you think we got so mad when Void Storms take a half-hour and you still don't get to crack more than one at a time?
man, what a fking throwback this was... I remember farming derrelict survival for that nova prime system like there was no tomorrow to get some plat to buy potatoes and forma
Man farming survivial keys was the reason I mained valkyr for so long when I was a newbie frame, i used my tiny amount of plat to trade for eternal warcry and collected every melee I could
I had just joined warframe back in 2016, loving the game and farming for my first prime, already halfway through the star chart. Then they dropped the new star chart and the relics, it completely screwed my momentum. Suddenly saturn was wayyy harder than ceres which I hadn't even unlocked. It was a huge nerf to my progress (or so I felt) so I left the game... For 4 months and then made a new account to start over the way the devs (now) wanted. My old account had and still has so many rare relics after the change, I got a friend to log in with that and hand me my old volt relics lol
Getting primes back in the day was so damn hard that i didnt even know how the system worked. To get my first primes i just relied on buying plat and then blindly guessing the price in the trade chat. Wild times
Huh, I didn’t know the 1v1 survival challenge had a history to it. Also, I’m wondering something for those who were there when void keys were a thing - do you still have your keys or were they purged from your inventory?
Since no one has answered yet, void keys were converted to relics when the update happened. Same is true for mod fusion cores when that update for endo got added (except legendary core) . Another rabbit hole for you to explore.
We have it much better now, but I still had a blast just chillin with the guys every night in hour long missions, we could still do it now but all my friends moved on so the fun of going long rounds is gone.
Void keys were so fuckin funny. I remember when these were introduced I and 3 of my friends played for like 18 hours straight because we discovered you could get into the void with someones key, and then have the original person who used their key leave, and still be able to get the rewards/finish the mission. While still retaining the initial key. we did this for like, an entire night while the friend who had left his laptop open for us to use his keys slept, till myself and another friend were the only ones going until both of us had frost prime and latron prime the drop rates were abysmal. they patched it later and the friend had like, negative 900 keys, it was the funniest shit.
I just love how special the void used to feel. Nothing really gets that feeling out of me. Maybe the sentient ships if i didn't have to do so much drama to get to them, and there was an actual reason to do them. Missed opportunity to keep them for fighting narmer. But sadly its just a dead tile
man old void. where youd get over a billion credits pr run. its how most of the old veteran players became stupid rich and still retained those riches. man those were the days.
I'm pretty sure I joined Warframe at the tail end of void keys because I remember joining Warframe right before the second dream came out, so much grind 😅
I do miss the Void though.. Maybe they could add back Void Keys as drops from Void Missions, of different tiers like before, but now they are used to open Void Portals in Void Fissure missions to access a Relic & Void Trace cache from a quick side mission before heading back to the main mission.. kinda like how we access the Granum Void of different tiers. Could also be a neat place to add more modern lore into the Void Towers.
I'm a very old Tenno, I do genuinely prefer Void Keys over Relics but with the caveat of using them exclusively for Survival and Defense. Though Relics are good for getting the specific item you want and time saving.
tbh i preferred the pre-primetrading times. back then building a prime felt like an achievement. i know the grind was bad, but all the bad made finally getting them so so much a better feeling.
I DO NOT miss tower farms at all. Relic farms can still be improved especially on interceptions where sometimes not enough enemies actually spawn to drop reactants because you win to fast but it is miles better than towers even with that rare issue. It also helps a lot that relics drop from pretty much everywhere but getting the specific one's you want to farm can be a pain in the ass but still not as bad as before.
Man, I remember picking the game first up when the void was relatively recent and quickly putting it down again after a week experiencing the absolute mess that were droptables back then. The void gameplay itself was also... rather boring for my younger self, so Warframe quickly vanished out of my interest for a very long time, sadly. Picked it up again after the Zariman echoes update and the difference was night and day and actually had a blast going through that "all new" game basically. Very cool history lesson!
30:30 Update 13.7 wow, i must had played just before this update. i remember when T4 keys were added into the game, doing Derelict Defense for Ember Prime Systems BP.
God I'm so glad you covered this, now all the people claiming they are "true veterans" can sit down and let the real old heads tell them about how it really was.
I always hear people say "yeah this mission was good back than", but on yt i can't find someone saying witch ones are good right now. Can someone help me? (im a casual kinda player, if that makes a difference).
Minor Edit: At 12:18 I mention slash, its actually SERRATED BLADE damage type, Serrated Blade was one of the major OP damage types in damage 1.0
“Blade,” hsr reference?

@@ThorDude It is much better, but needing keys to access the void- a mysterious place filled with perfectly preserved ships from an ancient civilization that seemed to value beauty and gold, felt more...flavourful and all that. Especially given that Primes are Orokin technology- it made sense that you could only get them there.
That 2013 throwback is crazy
The footage around relics showing at 59:48 is one of the most terrifying things I've seen in this game. Who on earth is going to open over 8000 relics.
The talk about Carrier Prime reminded me of The Vacuum Within, bad ole times
God, the time when Carrier was THE Sentinel
Wish they'd come back as a companion to omni fissures coming soon
Thank you..
NovaUmbral out here curing insomnia 💪
So glad to see the explanation for BakerTV. I love how blatantly you pointed out that he was banned for using a forgotten in game system.
It’s finally done 😭 you can now finally walk with your bois
FINALLY
I was worried he would be lost to the Void 💀
The man is back
Man I really remember hating void keys. The clips of the old nav system brought back some deep memories.
As someone who’s had a struggle farming an Aklex Prime Link, I thought of a Relic update while watching this video:
Taking any unrefined Relic to Varzia, you can pay Aya, Credits, Ducats, or some combination of such to weight any one Relic of your choice towards a reward you choose.
I think about the things in the game back then but I never remember much in detail, so this will hit hard for sure.
absolutely love this video, relics have always been my favorite "gamemode"
Honestly I do miss the old system, I was always an endurance player anyway so liked doing really long missions, I know it was a huge grind too, but damn was it fun
T4 survival for hours with some friends was peak fun
Facts, I remember farming survival and hitting 3hr run for the first time not even knowing and just bsing with my buddies on Xbox… the good old days.. I wish they’d bring keys back cause it was sm fun and the true end game
man your use of ratchet and clank soundtracks makes me so nostalgic. best warframe youtuber
I miss them so much, those key endurance runs
I logged on one day and they changed all my M keys to relics with 0 explanation. I quit for 8 years. LOL
Damn.
I also had this same experience lol. For a very long time most of relics where all vaulted ones.
I quit for 4yr
I remember the literal Day
They changed it
Same, Defense Void farming was my favorite activity, and I mained Frost.
They just make sure you do not bully or troll on the forums)
I started playing in between Angels and Veilbreaker, so I only know the current version of WF.
Wait what?? Factions sigils do not give standing??? Im a founder and i returned months ago, first time noticing this
@@Mr.Negativo yeah, now you pledge directly to a syndicate screen in orbiter
however, now that also means literally all of them are pretty much useless besides fashion
>Backlog.
Dude, I had like three-hundred Keys before the Relics replaced them and now it might be over two-thousand Relics.
Why do you think we got so mad when Void Storms take a half-hour and you still don't get to crack more than one at a time?
My gratitude for all the players that played through this to get what we have today your sacrifice is appreciated
man, what a fking throwback this was... I remember farming derrelict survival for that nova prime system like there was no tomorrow to get some plat to buy potatoes and forma
Man farming survivial keys was the reason I mained valkyr for so long when I was a newbie frame, i used my tiny amount of plat to trade for eternal warcry and collected every melee I could
i wasn't expecting that intro track to have a beat drop. Started bopping fr.
Yo what's that syandana you have on Hydroid called? Jackets used as capes are my jam.
its his deluxe skin attachment, only usable on hydroid, the syandanna underneath is the Abrasys Syandana (Platinum Syandana)
I have i think PTSD from the Vauban Prime farm in those Void Keys. God those caches took forever
when the function got a NovaUmbral video essay:
22:18 that operator spear thing placement is so evil
The horror. Thanks for reminding me of pain that I have not missed in damn near a decade
I remember farming for my Frost Prime. If it wasn’t for the awesome people that I met while doing it I’d have gone crazy.
We have it much better now, but I still had a blast just chillin with the guys every night in hour long missions, we could still do it now but all my friends moved on so the fun of going long rounds is gone.
Thanks for the enjoyable recap
Seeing your gun called the mountaintop made me very happy
I do remember Void keys. Old way to get primed stuff now. Even old Star chart map as well
I loved void Runs..back then we were try hards and running for 30mins or more felt like an achievement
I like the old system for being able to stay in a t4 for hours with one key. I don't miss playing the nekros though! If you know you know..
Frost main here, I loved T4D honestly. Stacking shield ospreys always made me giggle
great video. watched it on release. 0 views on drop started vid, by end, 1h, 1600 views, your killing it mate :) gg
Void keys were so fuckin funny. I remember when these were introduced I and 3 of my friends played for like 18 hours straight because we discovered you could get into the void with someones key, and then have the original person who used their key leave, and still be able to get the rewards/finish the mission. While still retaining the initial key.
we did this for like, an entire night while the friend who had left his laptop open for us to use his keys slept, till myself and another friend were the only ones going until both of us had frost prime and latron prime
the drop rates were abysmal.
they patched it later and the friend had like, negative 900 keys, it was the funniest shit.
PAAAAAAAAAINNNN LMFAO!!! 🤣
I'm at work and this drops and my job is simple so this is about to be such a great hour...i love seeing you drop a vid
I see novaumbral video , i click
I do miss the Void though..
Maybe they could add back Void Keys as drops from Void Missions, of different tiers like before, but now they are used to open Void Portals in Void Fissure missions to access a Relic & Void Trace cache from a quick side mission before heading back to the main mission.. kinda like how we access the Granum Void of different tiers.
Could also be a neat place to add more modern lore into the Void Towers.
I love your hud colors (if that's your gameplay).
Is it a preset or is it hand picked?
I feel old watching this, Vauban prime is still my PTSD trigger.
Can confirm I was my clans only vauban and we lived on zini farms for what felt like months
Damn, I don't even remember most of the void key stuff; and I started playing around update 10
That music is 100% from the OG ps2 ratchet and clank, such nostalgia for me
Man, I remember picking the game first up when the void was relatively recent and quickly putting it down again after a week experiencing the absolute mess that were droptables back then. The void gameplay itself was also... rather boring for my younger self, so Warframe quickly vanished out of my interest for a very long time, sadly. Picked it up again after the Zariman echoes update and the difference was night and day and actually had a blast going through that "all new" game basically. Very cool history lesson!
I didn’t know the void was so different back then. I wish we had something new in the void, maybe will happen in 1999 or next update
30:30 Update 13.7 wow, i must had played just before this update. i remember when T4 keys were added into the game, doing Derelict Defense for Ember Prime Systems BP.
It's insane how Warframe survived THIS
Kocham "Szczebrzeszyniasz Brzeczyszczyczmoski"
God I'm so glad you covered this, now all the people claiming they are "true veterans" can sit down and let the real old heads tell them about how it really was.
I always hear people say "yeah this mission was good back than", but on yt i can't find someone saying witch ones are good right now.
Can someone help me?
(im a casual kinda player, if that makes a difference).
