  • Fungal nail / onychomycosis causes discolouration to toenails, and is the most common nail infection, affecting around 10% of people. In this video I discuss the treatment options available for fungal nail. Generally these treatments include 5% amorolfine nail lacquer, oral terbinafine, and nail removal.

    You didn’t mention nail grinding to make the nail as thin as possible to remove as much of the infected nail as possible without removing the nail. Avoiding sugar and cold arbs is important too. Sometimes the nail never grows back.

    Hello, i have never walked anywhere public without my slippers, but somehow i got the fungus, i assume that spores may jump with fallen water drops after they hit the flooring of dormitory showers, is that possible ?

      Hi, it is possible. Most fungal nail infections develop from athletes foot so you must have picked this up somewhere in the past. Hope you are treating well. Best of luck.

      @@thelondonpodiatrist what about applying cream in morning ? Can i wear shoes after applying topical cream?

    • @thelondonpodiatrist
      @thelondonpodiatrist  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @awooga8156 There shouldn't be any restrictions to when you apply the cream, so morning will be fine. Shoes can also be worn afterwards. Remember to treat your shoes as I mention in my video. Watch the video How To Apply Antifungal Cream.

    I get good results with Mykored and lacuna drilling

      I mentioned lacuna method in recording but edited it out as I wasn't happy with how I explained it. It's a good one for the right patient! Maybe I can do a separate video on that later on. I've heard Mykored is good but don't have any data on outcomes. Roughly what success rate do you get? ✌️

      @@thelondonpodiatrist Very high, this is likely owing to price and concordance, Amorolfine and other lacquers are typically high cost and once a week application so hard for clients to build into a routine and self attempted at reduction of nail bulk by patients is always very poor with the included files. I have a Pharmacist working to find any data on Mykored but the manufacturer is a private german company and not forthcoming with information.

      Hi, thanks for commenting. I'm sure you can access these medications in Nigeria. See your doctor there who should be able to help you. All the best!
