    Thank you for sharing your experience. I recently changed jobs in nursing to telephone triage nursing. Your video is helpful to me and I'm sure to other nurses, as well as non-nurses.

    Thanks for the video. I’m a travel nurse and I just accepted my first triage phone assignment. I work in ER so I love doing IVs as well and patient/colleague interactions. I’m a little sad I won’t get the privilege of doing these things in this job. However, it’s something new and different so I’m coming in with an open mind.

      Yes keep an open mind. Telephone triage is a whole different dynamic of nursing. I hope you enjoy. Please let me know what you think. Good luck to you.

      Hi! So how did telephone triage go? I hope it went well with you.

      @@nikkimata9245 I hate the job. I’m 1 month in and crying every day. I miss bedside ER daily. I miss people interaction. Being a single, 42 year old in San Diego (who is now working Monday-Fri in this travel assignment is hating life.) sorry but it’s the honest truth

    I really enjoyed the honesty of your video. I am presently looking for a "work from home job". I've been in nursing 40 years and I'm ready for change. Do you have any hints or suggestions for applying? Thank you.

    Hi Rachel,
    Can you give a roundabout number for payscale? Like hourly pay or salary? I am looking into this after working on a neuro/ med-surg/ tele unit for 7+ years, and then a cardiac specialty office for almost a year where I was making 70,000+. I just am trying to find out if the pay is comparable before I research the job position more. Thank you for the awesome informative video!!

    Hi Rachel, I’m scheduled for an interview with a pediatric triage company and I’m curious what you’d recommend I do to prepare for this, what main things to study, good questions to ask, etc..Thank you for your informative video!

    • @RachelZaleski
      @RachelZaleski  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Hi Lisa thanks for watching. First off good luck and congrats on the interview!! I would say the best thing to understand is what are some of the common pediatric illnesses: colds, coughs, fevers, diarrhea, vomiting etc. just knowing some of the basics, what to be looking for like shortness of breath, blue lips, excessive sleeping, signs of dehydration etc. Then beware of some the "what if" questions like, what if a mom called and says her son has a raspy sound when breathing, what would you tell them? Or what if a dad calls in and his daughter has a temperature of 102 and not drinking their bottles at feedings? Don't know get me wrong once you start the job you'll probably be following guidelines like Barton Schmitt so they won't expect you to know everything. Questions to ask would be what is their expectation on how many minutes allowed for the full triage including call time, calling a doc if needed and documentation? Also how many minutes for charting do you get between calls? Are the calls inbound, outbound or both? How long do you get for lunch and breaks? I think that's a good base for now. Let me know if you have other questions. Like I said, thanks again for your support on my channel and please come back and let me know how the interview went. Will you be working for a clinic, hospital or national hotline number?

    Hi Rachel, thanks for the great video. I’m actually having a telephone triage nurse interview next week and I don’t know what sort of questions I would be asked. Can you please shine some light on it? My background is ICU nursing. Thankyou

    Hi Rachel! I have a BSN in Nursing and previous experience in phone triage. I want to do a remote similar job from home. You can coach me? Thanks.

    Wow great video! Very helpful! Can you do telephonic triage nursing and travel at the same time?

    • @RachelZaleski
      @RachelZaleski  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for asking, I do not travel with my work. I have a dedicated office in my house with a lock on the door to protect patient confidentiality. I don't think technically you can travel and do telephone triage unless of course you were licensed in those other states you were traveling in and your company policy allowed for that sort of thing. :-)

      Oh I see, Thanks! Also, Have you been able to get used to the variety of hours you have to work? Can you have a pretty flexible schedule to travel?

    Hi Rachel I am starting in a month telephone triage. Do you have a recommended books just in case I need to brush up on s/s or does the protocols direct you along with nursing judgement

    • @ActiveRachelAnne

      First off congrats on your job! I can only speak on behalf of the company I worked for and they had every guideline to follow. If you want your own set of triage books I would recommend Barton Schmitt for both adult and pediatric. Here's the peds book from amazon. GOOD LUCK!!

    Hi Rachel. I'm wondering about telephone triage and the schedule. I'm wondering if I would have the choice or opportunity to work 12-hour shifts 3 days a week doing telephone triage..and/or if this would be too difficult to work these long hours doing this particular job. Thanks so much! I Really enjoy your videos and they have been very helpful

    Hi, do you also call the doctor all the time?

    • @RachelZaleski
      @RachelZaleski  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ellen Bontao great question, most days I don't talk to doctors. I talk to the doc's office staff during the work day. Otherwise after hours I may talk to a doc anywhere from once a day to once a week. Just depends on the situation.

    Hi Rachel. Enjoyed your video. I'm curious about how everything is set up at home. Do they give you a phone and computer using VOIP? Are you required to stay in your home to do this or can you go out of state and take your work with you?

    • @RachelZaleski
      @RachelZaleski  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm so sorry it took me so long to reply, I must have missed your comment. Yes the company I work for supplies me with all the hardware and software. I have a CPU, monitor, headset and "soft" phone (application on my desktop). I am required to stay in home while working. There are quite a lot of rules I need to follow including being in a locked room to protect patient confidentiality. And no I cannot work from other states. I think I would need to be licensed in those states even if I could work out of state. Does this make sense? Thanks for watching and commenting :-)
