    the double stack on Reichel and the 52 save performance is what we remember Kirk, don't worry.

      In overtime... of a game 7. It’s nearly three decades later and that remains the greatest save I’ve ever witnessed.

    The goal where Wayne batted the puck into the net was earlier in the same season. I was at that game. It was an unreal goal. Full baseball swing, top shelf.

    Wayne has always been a favourite player, I was at a friend's house in Burnaby, BC watching this on tv and cheered when Wayne got that goal, all my buddies got pissed at me. When I said that if it wasn't scored against Vancouver we probably would have missed the historic event, they agreed it was a good goal.

    I remember this as a Canucks fan watching this live. I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. I remember being happy the Canucks won that game and went to the finals the same year, and that the Kings missed the playoffs entirely. This especially after the Kings beat the Canucks in the playoffs the year before.

    Pavel Bure scores 50 goals in the season in that game, and almost no one talked about it lol. I still remember getting to watch this game live, because by mere fluke (this was before the era of every game being on TV) our local station just happened to have the broadcast rights to that game. It was 1 of only 8 games they were carrying that season.

    What people don't realize is that a lot of Gretzky's assists would be goals for Gretzky if he had just held the puck and scored himself. Watch the videos, he easily could have 1100 goals if he was a selfish player.

    What record is broken first?
    50 in 39?
    10 pts in a game?
    Neither will ever be broken?

    • @michaelgriffiths8068
      @michaelgriffiths8068 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gretzky had 8 points after only 2 periods against the North Stars in the 1983/84 season, but couldn’t play much of the 3rd period due to a minor injury he suffered in the 2nd period...but that would have been the game to do it.

    • @Thick1
      @Thick1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Auston Matthews could legit take a run at either, though the 10 in 1 is more attainable than 50 in 39 imo. 39 straight games avoiding injury and scoring at that pace? That's crazy. Especially in this day and age where only 2 or 3 guys a season even hit 50 goals in 82.

    • @michaelgriffiths8068
      @michaelgriffiths8068 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Thick1 - the craziest thing about that record is only two guys had EVER scored 50 goals in 50 games (Richard and Bossy) up until that point in the history of the NHL. Then Gretzky comes along and not only demolishes the record by 11 games, but breaks Bossy & Richard’s mark 3 times in 4 years (50 goals in 39 games in 1982, then 50 in 42 games in 1984, and then 50 goals in 49 games in 1985). Total insanity.

      This is an interesting question, actually. Both are pretty unattainable, but I would say the 10 points in one game as it just takes one freak night instead of half a season of absolute supremacy.
      By the way, many people know that Gretzky got to 50 in 39 by scoring 5 in that last game, but a lesser known fact is that his previous game was also a four goal outing. Nine goals in two games. Not too shabby! 😂
