Love it! Another mind-blowing one is "Because" with John Lennon on lead vocals. Yoko had challenged John to try to play Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata backwards, since he was obsessed with playing it all the time there for a while. He took her up on that challenge, and "Because" was the beautiful, trippy, and haunting result.
Such a cool animated video..just FITS the song and thier look perfect. Crazier is the Brothers Johnson did a psychedelic funk version that makes you wanna get up and dance in '75... With out of this world instrumentation so good even McCartney loved it!! ( Available on utube, I highly suggest it.)
I will tell you what made the Beatles the best, even today. They never stuck to one formula... most artists find a hot with heavy metal, Rock, Pop or whatever and build around it for most of their time at the top. The Beatles did everything and did it well, no one came close and no one ever will. If you have not listened to the Abbey Rd Beatles Medley on side 2, it's a must, but must be listened how it was intended
They never stuck to one formula - true. But early in their career they weren't given much slack. Once they were proven hit-makers, they were given some freedom. Eventually they were essentially their own boss. This, plus the fact that they showed that they could change it up and do it so well, allowed them to have great freedom. Over the too many decades that I've been around, I've seen other groups try to evolve but fail. Not everyone was a versatile as these guys or had the talent int the group to do so.
The Beatles were the most successful musicians of the 20th century and now 55 years after their breakup still sell large numbers of albums and gain new fans. Remarkable!
The Beatles have done it all. Rock, pop, blues, heavy, ballads, hard rock and so on. Forget preconceptions. The more you hear them, the more you discover how great they were. I grew up with them and they changed my life. 14 in 64. 18 in 68. Best years in music.
And about 10 years too soon imo. They were just starting to scratch the surface. Too much business and personal change coming quite young was too much in the end. I’ve always wondered as have most Beatles fans that have grown up with them if John hadn’t been killed if they would have made any more product after having matured more given they were now late 30s.

Ringo Starr did a video on making this song. All the drummers who try to do it, do it wrong. Ringo was left-handed playing right-handed on a right -handed kit. Ringo in this song started with the floor tom, working up thru the rack toms. Most drummers doing this song start with the rack toms and work around to the floor tom.
John said of his lyrics that they don't mean anything, he just kept plugging away until he found a string of words that fit each line of the music. This song is an example of that.
About the lyrics: I think people had been trying to deep dive so far into 'hidden meanings' of Beatles songs (that's how the 'Paul is dead' thing started) that Lennon wrote this one specifically at them and said 'Have fun figuring this one out.'
Figure this one out is what John originally said when he wrote "I am the walrus", but he continued to use nonsense lyrics from time to time in other songs -- like this one.

You need to play and listen to the Beatles Abbey Road all the way through to get the whole experience of where the group was in this last part of their recording career, 1969. It was a great swansong for the group and a fantastc album. Eight days a week was from 1964 and Come Together from 1969.
The whole Abbey Road album is fire. You will be amazed at Paul's gritty vocal in Oh Darling. The must do though is a reaction to Something by George and, especially, the entire medley on Side 2, which I think showcases the entire vocal abilities and musicianship of the four lads.

John Lennon did love to play with words--putting combinations together just for the sound of it rather than it having any particular meaning. "I Am The Walrus", "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" to name a couple...

"I Am The Walrus" was the result of John Lennon's getting tired of people always trying to find some hidden meaning behind their lyrics. So he put a bunch of random words together, added some really kickin' music, then said "Let them try to figure THIS out..."
Nice reaction/analysis video. This is arguably the best Rock and Roll album ever recorded and easily top ten of any modern genre. Production values through the roof.

The song Come Together was a campaign slogan for Timothy Leary. Leary decided to run for president and asked Lennon to write a song around his slogan "Come Together - Join The Party."

It’s all about Ringo’s drumming, two kicks on the bass drum , four hits on the hi-hat then hitting your tom & floor tom. From my 2nd favorite Beatles album Abbey Road, my first being Revolver. Abbey Road was the last album the Beatles recorded. It was completed late summer of 1969. Shortly after its release, John Lennon quit the group, therefore basically breaking up the Beatles, although this wasn’t really public until Paul McCartney formally quit the following spring.
John Lennon was a renowned author, of poetic type verse. He authored two books, prior and during the Beatlemania days; the titles were “ In His Own Write” and “A Spaniard in the Works”. Nice analysis guys. Funny to see them riding around ..... In the movie "Across the Universe" The late Joe Cocker played a pimp and sang this song. At first the way he was all deck out I didn't recognized him. Very cool scene. Lucky dude! Surrounded by some hot "ladies of the night" in it. Actually he appeared in 3 different scenes. Different characters singing different Beatle songs, which by the way the entire movie if you haven't watched it yet (hint), the entire soundtrack is all Beatles songs. I was so disappointed the movie didn't received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture as it was worthy of one. I guess too political because the main theme revolved around our involvement it the non-sensical Vietnam War and much emphasis on the protest here in America going on at the time
That was Billy Preston, on the keyboards. He was the only artist, to actually play live and record, with them. He was so called the Fifth Beatle. You can see him playing, on this song as well as others; if you watch this track as recorded, from the Get Back/Let it Be, rooftop concert session.
Would be wise to understand the Beatles grew from being one of the very first popular boy bands when young and then grew up through the 60's, 70's like the rest of us hippies. Extraordinary times! Their music changed as they grew up...When playing a Beatles song, share the year it was recorded.

Preston's contributions on Abbey Road were limited to 2 tracks: Something and I Want You (She's So Heavy).
Would be wise to understand the Beatles grew from being one of the very first popular boy bands when young and then grew up through the 60's, 70's like the rest of us hippies. Extraordinary times! Their music changed as they grew up...When playing a Beatles song, share the year it was recorded.
Hey guys check out "Revolution".
Growing up i had no idea about the beatles. 😂 I remember hearing a greatest hits from Paul McCartney and wings in 1977 but not a big thing i have gotten into the beatles from 2020 love the history of the beatles 🎉 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Don't sleep on the lyrics. John was just as gifted as Bob Dylan at crafting a line of metaphors.
A candy store of music.
