🌎 I love this video, but then again I love all your videos. I'm from San Diego but I love the ideas you have in this video. I would love to see Italy next please.🇮🇹
American Swede here. Another way to bring coziness, nature and warmth into a space is the use of candles. Not a synthetic overpowering candle, but something natural preferably with a wood wick that brings the smells of nature and warmth into the home. Scent is such a huge and often overlooked factor. I also practice opening my windows to let fresh air in- especially on rainy days. I put bird feeders and planter boxes outside my window to regularly bring nature into view as much as possible. It’s all about the little, timeless pleasures.
As a Danish girl🇩🇰, I will tell you that you were right in many facts, but my favourite was that we never arrange furniture so that it covers the windows. Natural light is everything. And the large window itself is the beauty of the room! You can't block it. Unfortunately, I see this a lot in American homes. People arrange sofas and beds to cover some parts of the windows 😢 Another thing we LOVE are candles. In winter it is impossible to have a house without candles. Some people like them on furniture (dining tables), others on windowsills. This is our hygge. 🥰🇩🇰
Agree with you, I like to arrange the furniture so there is not a sofa or chair in front of the window, love the natural light coming in. Yes candles are a plus!
The Scandinavian countries are so far north that they have lots of hours of darkness for months, which doesn't happen in other countries, where you in fact might have to protect your home from excessive sunlight/heat.
I'm from Mexico! But... we Mexicans are VERY maximalists, very colorful, and that is very cozy to us. Most of us couldn't deal with minimalist ideas because that is cold for us, we grew up sorrounded by huge patterns, a lot of objects and a lot of decorations. Even younger people are very into having a lot of cluttered stuff, but with an intention!
I agree with you--I need color and fun and objects and interesting things to look at around me. I collect a couple of things, and seeing them around the house makes me happy and comforted. I appreciate the aesthetic of minimalism for the people who love it, and it can look beautiful in its way, but it's not my personal aesthetic. I do love the idea of a dedicated reading nook, though. As soon as my husband retires, I'm taking over his little office for exactly that purpose! :)
I'm the exact same way!!! But I'm irish/french/ native American & have always loved a lot of patterns & decor with animals on them. Plus tons of color & candles everywhere! But definitely have to have a lot of decor, especially during holidays & the like. Lots of blankets & lighting everywhere. People tell me my home is the most "homey" place they've ever been in! Best compliment ever!!! Love Mexican decor & colors as well!!!
I live in Canada but am Finnish. Much of what you spoke of is how we keep our homes. Another one with textiles is homemade rugs or table runners. We always have alot of Birch in our home around (Finlands national tree). Also not going out and buying new things but shopping your home and moving things around. bringing in branches or berries in from the forest as well. 🌍
Im norwegian!🌍🇳🇴 All the tips here are really true. We scandinavians do love cosy. And "hygge" dosent have a really great direct translation. But hygge can be a feeling of cosyness. Hygge is warmth, and inviting. And it feels relaxing and comforting. Dont forget other green elements! We can go outdoors, find a small spruce tree. Digg it up with roots. Clean it off. And into a large cylindrical glass vase tilted onto its side.
My husband is from Sweden, but we live in Canada (I'm Canadian). Love these ideas so much! We went to Sweden last summer & there's something about how more people seem to live in the present over there. They really enjoy life! Hygge is from Denmark. However, Sweden has it's own similar term, called Lagom which means "just right". They like to live in a place of not too much & not too little, which is the BIG difference in North America lol
Hmm, I’m not sure “lagom” is the Swedish simile of “hygge”… 🤔 More “mys” in that case. All though I do think “lagom” could be a factor in our overall satisfaction. Scandinavians rarely live after “the more the better”. Like Brittany said in the video, we rarely clutter out homes and spaces with stuff. Stuff we don’t even usually need or appreciate. So our homes are more “lagom”. We don’t believe that the person with the most stuff in the end wins… 😂 We seldom buy stuff spontaneously, we plan our buys. And with the holidays coming up; we don’t decorate as much as a typical American. I think most Scandi-ppl would think is a huge waste of money and storage space to have decorations that is only up for a small part of the year. (We DO decorate, mostly for Christmas I believe, but not nearly as much as you can see Americans do.)
Hi! I’m from Brazil! I love skandinavian style and it’s perfect for a tropical country, even if I live in São Paulo, which is very hot in summer and cold in winter… my home has all this skandish touches, but with brazilian craftsmanship and handmade fabrics, knitted cushions and linen curtains and some souvenirs from my trips, like porcelain plates, marquetry boxes and candle holders. An international home ☺️. Lots of love from Brazil! 😘🥰❤️
🌎. I live in Florida, and a vast majority of us try and keep the windows covered. The sunlight causes it to get ever hotter and our light bills go ever higher. I am all about comfort and cozy. Thanks and may you have a Blessed day.
Being a danish woman I can confirm that these habits are spot on 🌎😍I´m sitting in my nook by the window with a lit candle while I watch this video - not even kidding😃
As lovely as these ideas are - and they are beautiful - let's get real. The reasons Scandi countries are so happy is trust (social cohesion) quality public services and welfare state generosity (health care, education, year-long paid maternity leave), and income equality.
Agreed! I've been watching a few from over there. At least we can try to get a little Hygge in our home so we can enjoy our families and home. Also, get away from stress!
I was going to say the same thing. They are not trying to keep up w/ the Jones'. They value experiences over things. Yes they do pay higher taxes but there is peace in having all of the benefits you mentioned and know that the facility and care you receive as an elderly person will be A++. Can you imagine getting older and not having to worry if you saved enough money for nursing care especially if you end up with Alzheimer's. The freedom of knowing that you are not going to end up in a garbage, dump nursing home, and possibly suffering abuse or burdening you family.
I love the Scandinavian way of styling, I’ve incorporated a little bit into my own home over the past months from watching an interior design channel from House of Valentina, she has some great tips if you’re interested, Brittany you’ve got a Beautiful home, always have, I absolutely love your home and the way you have it styled, maybe check out styling ideas from my country Australia 🇦🇺, I’d be interested to see what you find out there compared to how we really style our homes. I Hope you’re taking care of yourself. Much Love, Appreciation and Kindness to You, Carter and Capri. 🩷🩷💙🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🐨🦘
Hi from Britain, these ideas are great and I think we are all appreciating nowadays ( especially since Covid ) just how important it is to create the right atmosphere in our homes, and what a difference that makes to us all. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money either, as these ideas show. 🌎
I also greatly admire Ireland, and I want to travel there someday soon. It truly is GREEN THE WHOLE YEAR 'ROUND. If you haven't heard the song of that title, it's a must-listen.(sung by Celtic Woman). ❤
I like these videos. I love learning about how other cultures decorate their homes. I like the idea of incorporating more light, especially in dark corners. ❤🌎
My husband is Swedish 🥰 & most of my furniture & Decor is from Ikea & we Love our home 🏡 I'd love to see you present some Italian decor & homes ❤ Thank you for this great channel.
You're so fun, Brittany. Loved this video and your interest in the way other parts of the world live their lives and decorate in their homes. What a great idea to take inspiration from other cultures! I love that! My mind is swirling with other places and the way they live. I'd love to see the way Russians typically decorate in their homes... or Native Americans... or South Africans... oh my, the wonders are endless. lol Love this frame of thinking. Thank you! 🌎
Now I have watched the entire video, and I really loved it ❤ You always find a lot of awesome tips. It’s true that recycling is a focus here in Norway, and outside every home you will find several waste bins. How many depends on where you live. We have two, as we have one for paper and one for the rest, but in our house, we separate plastic waste and food waste in different bags, and the rest in a third bag. These bags go in the same bin outside, but the waste facility will sort them. Other areas have separate bins outside their home for food waste and/or plastic waste, depending on their local waste facility. Personally, I need to get better at the “one in, one out” thing 😊
Hello from Estonia! Lived 20 years in US, but now back home again :) I remember my mom's local artists' blown glass vases always filled with fresh wild flowers in the summer, or green tree branches... And winter with candles every day and night. Cooking from scratch is HUGE too during the dark winter nights. Fun fact - when the sun appears during the winter, then there's a moment of such primal joy that the whole region feels it - the classes in schools can rejoice together! No such joy in California ;)
Love this video! My great grandmother was from Sweden so I feel connected to that culture. And I live in Alaska with dark cold winters so I can really appreciate these tips! Thank you!! 🌎
I'm watching this video in the great state of Indiana. 😊 Italy- that's a country I really admire. Love the movie UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN- the whole fixer-upper portion of the movie. Love how the villa gets a makeover and how she cooks for all the men working on it.
What I am learning as I’m learning to be happy and not what the world tells me is to decorate less and not decorating for holidays but just have a nice candles and hand towels etc not just clutter plus using seasonal outdoor things like pine cones, leaves, acorns etc.
Well I’ll take this as a sign to restart my decluttering project 🙃 🌎 I’m from the Philippines 🇵🇭 currently living/working in UAE 🇦🇪 Great video as always!!
Hello from Norway. Love this episode, funny to hear others telling about the things we do but never think much about. My home is very light in colour and a lot of cozy elements. I live in North, half the year is very dark outside, not every winter comes with alot of snow. The summer is light in nighttime too. Elements from nature is ofthen used to get the cozy feeling. Love your channel, have a nice Day.
I'm from Tunisia 🇹🇳 and I love you Brittany I love your suggestions, your ideas, I like hearing you out I feel like we're real life friends 🤭🤭 keep shining girl ❤❤❤
🌎 i have MDD and its worse this time of year because I also have seasonal depression. I love the idea of those spotlights and its genius to use them in a plant like you did in this video. As always, I love you and your content.
Hi!! I’m from Spain! Loved your video! Thanks for sharing! I live in Barcelona and we have a lot of sunshine so we use both curtains and blinds (which are different from the ones you have but I don’t know how to call them in English). Thanks again for all the content you create! 🫶🏼🫶🏼
Thank you! 🌎 I love bringing nature inside. I have twigs and tree branches everywhere 😄 Home habits from Switzerland and France would interest me. I'm all about the cozy!
I’m in Kentucky and this was so interesting. Thanks for the video. I’d be Interested to hear about a cold atmosphere and daily routines. Like Alaska or Greenland. How they maneuver around ice and snow. How do they keep they houses cozy and warm.🌎
As a polish girl i would say a lot of these are used in all of europe. Some tips from slavic countries! : - before u do your bed, leave the covers out for 5-10 mins! I see americans doing their bed right as they wake up - this traps all that sweat and bacteria under the covers - if we shop and need to get a single use bag, we later put it in the „bag for bags” 😂, usually we have a trash bin under the sink to it’s not visible, and we keep the empty bags there to reuse - we take off our shoes in the house, and have slippers for home, and slippers for the garden - we use many rugs, traditionally even on walls to keep warm
I am a newer subscriber & I absolutely Love your videos! You are so engaging & offer some wonderful ideas. If I felt the dish cloths were hygienic I would switch. I bought several Amazon items you recommended & my favorite is the cutting board & the dawn spray w/ refills! Thank you!❤🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
I love this. Adding that second throw really made a difference. I’m focusing on making my home cozy since it’s that time of year. I’ve stopped using my overhead light in my bedroom and am using string lights instead. I also have a sliding door so I have lots of natural light during the day. 🌍
I do one new clothing item in, 2 out. 2 in, 4 out. That's the proportion and it generally works out! I just don't have attachments to clothes and I have 0 space anyway.
Yup I was one of those...as soon as I saw the mirror I thought (I hope it's anchored!!)😂😂😂 Looovveee your videos!!! I'm definitely on a massive declutter right now before I decorate for Christmas 🤍
Amazing video, Brittany! I love all your suggestions and can’t wait to transform our home. You are living your best life! You seem so happy and relaxed!💗
Hi Britney - viewing from uk here. Love your vlogs and love the Scandinavian vibe very much. Also like the South Korean lifestyle - seems really vibrant but also love that they seem to have the most up to date kitchen gadgets you could imagine. Would be good if you brought some of that to you tube too. 😊
🌏🌏🌏 Dane here 😊 The light on the floor in the corner - that’s not hygge. That’s just spooky. We have throw blankets everywhere, because it’s damn cold here. We use them to stay warm 😁 But in general - you nailed it 😊
🌎 What a nice video idea! I’ve been so stressed out with everything going on in my life (sound familiar?) 😂 Americans have a hard time slowing down, so any tips to figure out how to be less stressed and make our homes more cozy are greatly appreciated!
Hi Brittney I love in the UK & I loved this video because this is the country ( or countries ) I'm very interested in. So thank you for this information 😊🌍
To be precise, temperature in the most northern part of Denmark (excluding Greenland) in wither hardly drops few degrees below 0 Celsius. It is hardly cold for other Nordic countries that are located further North.
🌎Orlando Florida . .. I love the hidden storage idea and secret storage I like to watch tiny home Reno’s and see if I can use some of there ideas in my normal size home.
🌎 This was fun! And I'm pleasantly surprised that I already hygge-ify my home... I love the different textures & throws and already do that. Another great video - thanks for such interesting information!!
We do not have a TV in our living room and so the furniture is not aimed at anything. Our sofa stands in front of the window and is basically one big reading spot for the whole family.
🌍 I’m from OC, so not far from you! But, I LOVED this video. With winter coming up (although in the 70’s today 😜) I’m always looking for ways to make my home feel more cozy and happy. I love each one of these hacks. Thanks so much for all your videos! I never miss one & love your IG stories as well! You’re amazing! 🩵🩵
These type of videos a super intresting to m! I 'd love if you make them a series. I think everyone can take whatever they want and apply it to their own home.
🌎 watched from Farmington, NM I loved this video and happy I’ve already been doing some of these. My favorite is twinkle lights everywhere lol probably because as a child I was scared of the dark…still am. Be the light, shine on sister ✨

The Swedish equivalent to hygge in Swedish is mys (mysig, adjective), lagom has nothing to do with hygge.
I said similar & yes my inlaws have confirmed this.
Never said equivalent - I said similar.@@sashadieken1

As a polish girl i would say a lot of these are used in all of europe. Some tips from slavic countries! :
- before u do your bed, leave the covers out for 5-10 mins! I see americans doing their bed right as they wake up - this traps all that sweat and bacteria under the covers
- if we shop and need to get a single use bag, we later put it in the „bag for bags” 😂, usually we have a trash bin under the sink to it’s not visible, and we keep the empty bags there to reuse
- we take off our shoes in the house, and have slippers for home, and slippers for the garden
- we use many rugs, traditionally even on walls to keep warm
I'm from Malaysia. these ideas are mind-blowing 🌎
Hi Brittany. I'm watching from Belgium, Europe and I love your content
Hi tuning in from Denmark 😊 we love our hygge
I am a newer subscriber & I absolutely Love your videos! You are so engaging & offer some wonderful ideas. If I felt the dish cloths were hygienic I would switch. I bought several Amazon items you recommended & my favorite is the cutting board & the dawn spray w/ refills! Thank you!❤🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s

I would love to see you do this for Ireland and Scotland. Great video as always! 🌍
I love this. Adding that second throw really made a difference. I’m focusing on making my home cozy since it’s that time of year. I’ve stopped using my overhead light in my bedroom and am using string lights instead. I also have a sliding door so I have lots of natural light during the day. 🌍
😊thank you for sharing this information about how to make our home more breathable and comfortable living
🌎 love these videos watching from the carribean trinidad and tobago 🇹🇹
I do one new clothing item in, 2 out. 2 in, 4 out. That's the proportion and it generally works out! I just don't have attachments to clothes and I have 0 space anyway.

Great tips. I love the double layering of blankets & putting lighting in the bottom of the plants. From Canada. 🌍

To be precise, temperature in the most northern part of Denmark (excluding Greenland) in wither hardly drops few degrees below 0 Celsius. It is hardly cold for other Nordic countries that are located further North.

We do not have a TV in our living room and so the furniture is not aimed at anything. Our sofa stands in front of the window and is basically one big reading spot for the whole family.
Please please where is your floor mirror from !? I need it ❤❤❤ it’s gorgeous
