I have 3 rules I live by. First is to assign a forever home to every item in my house, that way I always know where things are and where to put them away. Second is the "don't put down, put it away" rule, basically your one-touch rule. Third is to make tomorrow-me grateful by not going to sleep in a messy house, so I wash dishes, wipe the counter, put away toys etc before sleep. It gets to a habit fast!
I have always believed that a clean person is not the one that's always cleaning, but the one that does not let things get messy in the first place. These tips are wonderful to stay on top of myself.. Thank you🥰
Great tips! I've finally found what works for me and I've been consistently keeping my home clean for the past several weeks now. I've realized that I have to tidy every room in the house ever single day. Most rooms only take a minute or two for a quick tidy (kitchen obviously takes longer). It's so much better than letting a room become a disaster and having to spend 30 minutes or an hour tidying up a space.
Great tips. I’m confused tho. Why do people in the US say clean up rather than tidy up? In the UK cleaning something means to wash it etc but in the US it means tidying it.
@@julietannOsfan1972 in Canada we say tidy too, but maybe clean is apt, as I know, for me, I do both , as an example, with my kitchen (ie. I put items away, but also wipe down the table, counters etc) .
Thank you so much for this video, going to try out some of the tips! Right now I’m in the middle of a Marie Kondo style decluttering of my closet and I have a tip for anyone trying to do it too: When you first sort through everything make 2 different “keep”-piles in addition to the “donate”-pile, “alteration-needed”-pile, “throw-away”-pile or any other piles you might need. The first “keep-pile” you use for the items that truly spark joy and feel like you. The second “keep-pile” is for stuff you might still wear on a regular basis but don’t love love or you need to keep for practical reasons. When you are finished decluttering put only the items from your first “keep”-pile back in the closet (I sorted them by category and colour) and look at the result. I was shocked because I realised that all of the items that I truly love fall on a very distinct colour palette! I took a photo of the palette and I will try to stick to these colours when I buy new clothes from now on. This was especially interesting to me because I always thought that I don’t have a style language and just wear what I like depending on how it fits me and my mood and I have a very colourful closet where many things don’t go together. Turns out I was wrong because this sorting process clearly showed me what I love in clothes and what I just wear because it’s there. The next step is putting the stuff from your second “keep”-pile back into the closet. During that process I managed to get rid of a few more items for example a bright blue and green striped shirt that did not suit the established aesthetic of the stuff that was already in my closet. I also kept some pieces from the second pile for practical reasons but I might swap them out later. I would really recommend anyone trying this method, a friend recommended it to me and it was a great learning experience 😊
The tip of the soap dispensing brush to clean in the shower is life changing. I have been doing it since you shared it in a past video,a nd I just wanted to thank you for saving me so many back-pains. 😃 Love and blessings for the family! ❤🙏
I've loved your 2min clean up game with kids, it works with mine... also your 1stop tip where you put the item in its right place has changed my life... as a mum I think I'm never leaving any room empty handed... always got something I my hand 🖐
Good afternoon Brittany. What can I say? These videos just keep getting better and better. Your cleaning, decluttering and organizational skills are outstanding. Thanks for a tour of your lovely home - and don't forget to take some time for yourself. 😉😉🌻🌼🌼♥♥♥
When my kids were little the toys out of the bedroom was life changing. We allowed "quiet" tous. Things that could be done quietly like books and coloring/drawing activities. It helped our kids relax , helped them be ok with entertaining themselves while alone and the best of all, helped them fall asleep easier.
I already implemented your habit of never leaving a room empty handed a while back and it’s great….. thanks for these new tips, I’ll be doing some of them for sure
I've heard that "don't put it down, put it away" from You in the past and I swear by that🤣 I try to implement that rule for my kid too. I'll try the rest too. Love You❤
Great tips! The don't leave a room empty handed it has been a game changer! Also, the "don't put it down, put it away". I don't always think of that, but when I do, I do just that put it away. Oh and decluttering is amazing!!
Your 2 minute go-go cleanup with kids reminded me of when I taught first grade. I did that a couple times per day and always had a tidy room at the end of the day!
I was diagnosed with ADHD a few months ago and started implementing these everyday (with reminders and lists of course!), and they help keep me from being overwhelmed by house tasks. Complete game-changer!!!! I’ve also been wiping my sink out with some cleaning spray and then the washcloth I used to dry my face after my night skincare routine. No waste and it’s super easy!
@@hermoniajade894 I wipe my face with a clean washcloth then I use it to wipe out my sink. Then it goes right to the laundry bin! The “cleaner” I use is just an ACV mixture, so I don’t mind those towels being washed with my bath towels instead of my cleaning towels.
A trick I have is to keep a drawer open, cabinet open, or a light on, etc, when I take something out, so when I see it that way after I do something else or get distracted, it reminds me to put back or away whatever I took out! Thank you so much for sharing your great tips 🫶🏼!
Tip #4 & 5 are important. I was shocked to realize how many people struggle with handling mail efficiently. My best friend is a little squirrely, but so lovable, and I was still shocked when she confessed to having two laundry baskets full of mail (mostly junk) that she had to comb through after the fact when she realized her lender had sent an escrow acct refund check for over $1,000 - months prior. I don't even bring the mail in the house until after I've stopped at the recycle bin and tossed everything that is obviously junk. WHY do that to yourself??? TWO laundry baskets full of crap, taking up space!!!!
Here is the Netherlands you can put a sticker on your mailbox that says NO (yes in clear capital letters) to junk mail and it no only saves me so much time but it saves on junkmail in general aka better for the environment
BRITTANY ! You are an absolute doll lol, I love your videos, even they are efficient and quick! Jampacked full of great ideas! And they don’t drag on and on with seconds of lag time. You are amazing and I always learn some thing! And I’m already pretty efficient and organized lol love you lots! Lorrry
Everything you said makes complete sense but not everything is easy to do, as Ryan demonstrated 😀. Thanks Brittany for making our lives a little easier.
Thank you so much Britney this is a must see video I struggle with organizing my house and if you could give us other room organizing ideas hacks 🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Brittany! Always love your ideas to make life easier. All of them can be easily adapted to every day life. I do most of them already. I did learn the "don't put down, put it away" idea from you quite awhile ago and I still use it!! Thanks again for sharing. Have a lovely weekend!
Our family hack is that my husband is the washing man. Yup that’s his clear cut job inside the home. He is often working from home plus is a very early riser, so it makes sense for him to do it and then the lines aren’t blurred as to who’s job it is. He has recently found the timer function on the machine so times washing for when he is around to be able to put it out on the line or in the dryer as soon as it’s done 😊
Duplicates of fluffy blankets!! I’m obsessed but I started keeping some in the car for when we first leave to keep my daughter warm while we wait for the heater to start heating
These are solid tips. I am really big on never going up or downstairs empty handed, especially as I’m dealing with arthritic knees and have to limit my trips on the stairs.
Love these ideas ❤❤❤ We call grab and go “full hands” so when you leave a room make sure you have full hands and take things where they go x i love the toy rotation idea and pick up x its so fun and efficient 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Love your tips. I love the rotation of toys. My daughter has several she plays with but if she doesn't see it she forgets about it until I go through it's time to declutter phase. I love the idea of keeping a decluttering bin everywhere so that I can just toss it in and swipe it all up and get it rid when I'm running out of the door. I always make it a rule to have the kitchen cleaned so I don't have to see a mess in the morning. It is definetly a mood killer in the morning. I love to come into a clean kitchen and start my coffee.☺️
Thank you for another great video! ❤ My duplicates “problem” is with toiletries, cleaning/laundry products and sheets 😅 I am always on the look-out for a better body lotion, shampoo etc so I buy new ones and try them out before the old ones are finished. I’m currently banned from buying any new products until I’ve used up the old ones, even if I’m not 100% happy with them. Hopefully this way in 6 months (or possibly more 😱😳) I will have used them all. Same with laundry and cleaning products. The sheet situation is that I have two different beds in the house of different sizes, and all the sheets are carefully ironed and folded. I need to get them all out, check the sizes against each bed and get rid of the ones that don’t fit either bed (from previous beds), and re-iron and fold the ones I’m keeping, but as ironing and folding sheets is one of my least favourite tasks I keep putting it off! 😖
Great tips Brittany, I did chuckle to myself when I saw your 15 minute end of day clean and you have tons of stuff all over your countertop, I thought if you applied your one touch rule then that wouldn’t be there and you wouldn’t have to do 15minutes clean up at the end of the day 😂 I’m only pulling your leg, your house looks amazing and appreciate the hard work that goes into your videos. Keep up the good work xoxo
I'm with you on putting away laundry same day. Multiples in my house are water bottle giveaways and so many cute mugs. Dang but they're hard to get rid of.
Thank you! I agree putting things back helps so much! I’m. Teacher with over an hour commute and an adult son and sig other. No time to clean whole walk in shower daily so I clean two walls while in the shower. I modify and we all work out of the home so it stays as clean as we leave it. ❤.
The timer thing works great in the kitchen. I can get a lot accomplished in fifteen minutes in my kitchen: load the dishwasher, scrub a few pots, wipe down surfaces, BING!
I showed this in a previous video! I just put a few toys in each bin and they get one bin a day! This way they are playing with the toys that they get in their bins
I know I have too many mini spatulas... but I do use them! I loved Ryan's cameo today too, so fun! I love the toy rotation idea, and reallllly love the no toys in the bedroom. My husband keeps suggesting maybe we let them so they can play away from us sometimes, but I read a book called the Collapse of Parenting by Leonard Sax (highly recommend!!) that talks about kids having TVs in their rooms and setting boundaries, etc all of that connected to behavior issues.
I always had a TV and toys in my room growing up. It was never an issue for my sister and I. We had a great, healthy childhood. My best friend, on the other hand, grew up with strict parents and she had a lot of issues after she moved out. She went WILD. And also moved far away and never visits her parents. So now that I have a son, I try to do a good balance but it can be hard sometimes. Parenting can be trial and error.. and error 🤣
Re toy rotation: I can’t wait to hear your little girl tell her Kindergarten class that she gets a box of new toys every day! Lol should be fun!! Love the idea!
I clean my shower as I’m showering also! My husband loves to buy sip bottles I hate them! I told him to stop buying them! By the way we got our deck finally in about a month ago it looks great! I wanted to update you! 🥰😍
I actually spray my shower with spray n wash stain remover(generic is fine) wait a bit and run your sponge over and rinse you will see amazing difference! Learned when cleaning military housing for inspections.
A note to the countertop cleaning wipes, I got the 2 pack mini glass spray bottles in the target dollar spot and I keep one in the master bath and one in the kids bathroom in the medicine cabinets. I spray the countertops and sink with it, and wipe with toilet paper and just flush the used toilet paper when I’m done. It’s kept out sink and countertops cleaned for over a year now.
*Bathroom Cleaning* . I implemented the Swish and Swipe Fly Lady approach years ago. I always squeegee the shower walls because I have hard water. I keep paper towels and a multi surface cleaner in the bathroom for a quick swipe of the sink and shelves. I never feel overwhelmed about the chore of cleaning the bathroom.
Great tips!! My biggest collection is cups, it’s getting ridiculous but I just have a hard time getting rid of them! Also, the one touch method was one of the first videos of yours I saw and have implemented it for years! I love it, totally made a huge difference in my house.
My BEST advice if you have a 2 story, keep an “upstairs bag” by your stairs. I throw dirty clothes, any items that belong upstairs in the “upstairs bag” and bring it up with me at the end of the night to cut down on trips upstairs. Same thing in the morning, throw your “downstairs items” that need to go down with you into the bag and make it one easy trip. My kids all know to use the upstairs bag. It really simplifies life for our family!
I already do alot of these things you mentioned.. but, there's a couple I definitely will start now that you mentioned it. Leaving donation bins is a great idea. I will definitely start doing TODAY. The other Big problem I have is too many of the same items. I will definitely be minimizing. It's just me and my son and I can't even tell you how many towels we have. Plus coffee mugs, dishes, utensils, pans, things that are so unnecessary to have more then a few of. Thanks for the tips.
I have too many kitchen items, utensils, pots, and pans. But I did rehome many towels by giving them to our local animal shelter and I feel good about that.
yep. these are great, i do many of them too.... touch mail ONCE has been my rule for years - deal with it as I pick it up, to recycle or keep. No mail piles allowed, lol! i keep cleaner in both kitchen and bathrooms, and spray clean & wipe the counters (and toilets too) as I'm using the sink. spray down the tub while in the shower. fold and put away clothes immediately out of the drier - for me that's part of 'doing' laundry. another thing i do is have a "key bowl" - as I walk in the door that's where the keys and sunglasses go. Nobody ever gets to ask me "did you see my keys?"... if they don't put it in the bowl, they have to hunt for it - cause I'm not doin' it!!🤣 however!! - soaking dishes isn't a myth when you have no dishwasher. first thing I do when I get home from work is unpack my lunch box, rinse everything out and fill with soapy water. I always need to rest first, then I'll come back and do all the dishes before dinner.... without soaking, the coffee cup and lunch containers would be dried up and caked on. soaking makes hand washing soooo much easier.
I have 3 rules I live by. First is to assign a forever home to every item in my house, that way I always know where things are and where to put them away. Second is the "don't put down, put it away" rule, basically your one-touch rule. I'm with you on putting away laundry same day. Multiples in my house are water bottle giveaways and so many cute mugs. Dang but they're hard to get rid of.
Oh yes it can be a challenge, just think of which ones you use the most!
Beer glasses from assorted breweries. My husband is obsessed!
Thank you for the video, Brittany! Happy holidays!
Thank you! I agree putting things back helps so much! I’m. Teacher with over an hour commute and an adult son and sig other. No time to clean whole walk in shower daily so I clean two walls while in the shower. I modify and we all work out of the home so it stays as clean as we leave it. ❤.
Nice!! Sounds like you've worked your way around it!
The timer thing works great in the kitchen. I can get a lot accomplished in fifteen minutes in my kitchen: load the dishwasher, scrub a few pots, wipe down surfaces, BING!
Oh yes!!
I would love to see a video on how you set up your toy rotation bins!
The toy rotation is amazing! They really do enjoy their toys much more when it's only a few a day. & thanks I will check it out!!
You are so smart!!! Ryan is so funny!!! 💕
Aww thank you!
I love the top you’re wearing!
Thank you!!
I clean my shower as I’m showering also! My husband loves to buy sip bottles I hate them! I told him to stop buying them! By the way we got our deck finally in about a month ago it looks great! I wanted to update you! 🥰😍
It’s mugs for me!! I love my mugs!!
Your advice is the best . Its changed the way I keep organized ! The five minute rule is so simple but I wasn’t doing it.
Glad it was helpful!☺️
I actually spray my shower with spray n wash stain remover(generic is fine) wait a bit and run your sponge over and rinse you will see amazing difference! Learned when cleaning military housing for inspections.
The MAIL! ❤❤❤❤ Thank you!
OMG love you for this DMA Choice mail remover info. Something I’ve always wanted to stop and now hopefully I won’t get that junk packet anymore. 😘
Yes! I stand beside the recycling bin outside and put all junk mail in there before even bringing them in the house.
All such great tips!🤍
Thank you!!
I love the honey hair, Brittany!💛
Thank you so much!!
Great idea!! Thank you for sharing!
These are absolutely great tips! Thanks, Brittany!
Thanks!
Love that!
Great video (thanks for the chapters)! Love the cameos, especially of the fast kiddie cleanup!
Great tip!!
That is awesome!
yep. these are great, i do many of them too.... touch mail ONCE has been my rule for years - deal with it as I pick it up, to recycle or keep. Nobody ever gets to ask me "did you see my keys?"... if they don't put it in the bowl, they have to hunt for it - cause I'm not doin' it!!🤣
however!!
All great tips . Especially loving the toy rotation bins ❤
It works amazing!!
