I have a black cat and she's the sweetest cat ever. Everyone who comes over loves her! She's chubby, fluffy and cuddly and would sleep on almost anyone's lap haha. We jokingly call her an "escort" cause she's beautiful and would stay with anyone who gives her affection :)

You forgot an important one......modern flat top kitchen stoves. From an early age make sure your buddy knows without question that the countertop where the range is is off limits with no question. Shoo them off.......use automatic water sprayer if you need to. Just make sure your cat does not step on a hot burner. Never yourself spray the cat with a spray bottle as they think you are the responsible one.......but if exploring and an automatic one gets them.......Grin!! They very quickly learn to stay away from there. They love to get on the countertop and be a part of everything going on.........but a hot stove top is a great danger. They learn quick........that it is OK to come jump up on the bath counter and play with the faucet.......but not OK to even visit the particular countertop the stove is at. Cheers!!
Yes! We have one of these (came with the house which we bought long before the cats) and it's always a fear of mine. We try to be vigilant (plus I try to keep the cats off of cooking/eating surfaces in general) but recently one of our cats did jump there while it was still warm. In a way it might have been a good lesson as it was enough to make her jump off but not enough to actually burn her paws. Poor baby!
No matter how careful you are yourself, it's also super-important to teach your friends and family all these things if they ever stay over at your house, and to make sure they actually take it in! I'm incredibly vigilant with my babies and I've never personally caused any accidents or poisonings, but I've literally lost count of how many times my friend has left dangerous things lying around (which sometimes resulted in vet visits just to check my cats didn't ingest anything), and this is even after I've told her doens of times to be careful. :/

+grytlappar Well I can say my local fire squad would come to my school at least once every year when I was a kid and this is one thing they always said. Also, I didn't go to school any time around the '30s so that's where I've always heard it.
grytlappar Cords can actually heat up even in normal use. When malfunctioning or under too heavy load the heating can be significant. You might want to avoid covering them with something flammable.
wonderful video. so helpful and may save many a cat's life whose owner heeds this video. I am going to save it and refer back to it. Have to say of all the many cat-related channels out there this is my *absolute* favorite. You have such a wonderful chemistry with your cats and capture their cutest moments. Thank you for an outstanding channel !!
You are my favourite because I can tell how much you care for your cats! Your devotion to them makes me so emotional. Thank God there are people like you who take their pets seriously❤
Hi, whilst I was looking for the pet alert sticker and card I came across a website and I read that most of the time firefighters ignore the stickers. But it won't stop me from getting an pet alert sticker and card. As I love my pet's so much. 🐶🐺
Excellent input! Some stuff I wasn't aware of. I used to even wash my hands when I got home before petting my "roommates," because I didn't want them grooming themselves and ingesting anything I happened to get on my hands, e.g., after pumping gas for my car, or handling cash $.
My friend's family had a little dog name Itty Bitty. They also have two cats. They had given the cats their cat flea medicine and they thought, "Hey, if the cats will eat this stuff, so will Itty Bitty!" no... His tongue went purple, he couldn't breath and he was howling and running through their house in pain. They all watched him die. *Never* feed your animals a product that's not for them.
Willybear & Adobe That is horrible. I'm sorry for saying this because it's your friend but they need to actually know about pets and their medicine to use it.
My neighbor was an old man, and he apparently got really sick. He apparently wasn't able to leave the hospital no one knew what had happened to him, and his cat passed away because he was trapped in the house with no food or water.
Do you think I am heartless? I feel terrible for both, the cat more because it perished, the man also because he probably lost his best friend and couldn't do anything about it.
Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is incredibly toxic to cats. I always make sure the caps are on the bottles, in the cabinet and I never leave a Tylenol loose on the counter.
We just lost our 4 month kitten when he hid under our recliner & was crushed! Our hearts are broken in a million pieces. We got rid of the recliner immediately.
I had two reclining chair when my kitty came to live with me, she was not allowed in the lounge room until my sons could remove them for me. I now have two Italian leather chairs sitting in a dirty old shed, but I know my kitty is safe from being injured.
kate rao My cat throws up every now and then, it keeps her healthy, if cats throw up often like my cat, it’s fine. When my cat throw up, get gets out al, the bad stuff she ate. That’s good if we are out of town because she won’t get sick. I’m sorry for you cat though 😔 sounds like a cute cat though!
Yep...I HATE those feather toys. $1800 surgery to save my lil tripod baby boy! Those things are BANNED in this home. The "stem" of the feather punctured his intestine...it was so scary for all of us!
We take fabric bags with us when we shop. They're Eco-friendly, stronger than grocery store bags, & much safer for our fuzzies. When we're not using them, they're hanging in the closet, where cats can't get tangled up in them. Another thing to be careful about: candles, lit ones to be specific. A cat (or dog, for that matter) can burn their nose in a split second--I recently had one of our cats start to sniff one. Fortunately, I was right there so I could blow it out before she could get hurt. Since then, my husband & I agreed, no candles are lit unless they're either right next to us, or out of the cats' reach. The same thing goes for incense.
Susannah Ayres-Thomas Another save option is to put candles into decorative lanterns. They give such a cozy light and the cats cannot come close to the flame :)
Brilliant video!! The cards with pet info are a great idea. Avocados aren't actually poisonous to cats; our cat has got up on the windowsill in the night and chewed on the avocados ripening there. We had a cat come into our clinic once that had got its head caught in a plastic bag, run down the concrete driveway and jumped over a fence, its paws were grazed and claws torn up a bit, thankfully it healed fine.
Y'all have cats that'll eat anything that vaguely resembles food while mine is picky af, like, they wouldn't eat anything but the most expensive, finest cut of grass fed free range sirloin steak, seared to a certain doneness and topped with the best mushroom sauce in the market. Hyperbolic, sure, but he's still a picky bastard lmao.
Good on your for feeding your cat real food. My kitty is not fortunate enough to eat steak but she get chicken, beef, lamb and fish, way better than chemical riddled cat foods.
Thank you so much for all this information. Although I thought our home was pet proofed for the holiday there were a couple of things you made me aware of I did not know. Where did you get the window sticker to alert the fire department that pets were inside?
On cords, as a tech i have tons of them and the cats love any type of string/cord. One thing that has worked for me is color. White anything is a toy and ok to kill. Black anything is never to be touched. This has worked amazingly well for me and required virtually no effort or special considerations. A few corrections and immediately present a white shoe string and good to go! It does however mean I can never own white shoes again... :(
Cole and Marmalade - as a guy not owning white shoes/laces is a easy compromise for no half eaten wires/burned down house/horribly injured kitties =D. One other thing I have had a lot of success with. Cats are sound driven so use that when you can. I have a single sound i make when they are doing something "bad" and incorporate that into any correction. I know "correction" means different things to different people. But I suspect the consistent sound is just as important if not more so than anything else for reinforcement purposes. Outside of what I consider party trick behavior like sit, stay, roll over type stuff. Cats are actually easier to train than dogs in most cases. That's not an anti dog statement. I love dogs and grew up with Dobermans. But if you work with your cats nature they are actually super easy to "train". Things I have trained (aka we have mutually agreed on :p) them to do: Not allowed outside no matter how long door is left open, not allowed on counter/stove/only coffee table I put food on, I do a lot of around the house diy "so leave the room" is a big one, no begging/eating human food ever. Those are our house rules. House rules elsewhere may vary ;).
Great video, very informative. Reminding all pet owners they need to pay attention to every detail. I will share this video now. Also, found the card and sign saying that there are pets on the home very useful. Thank you! (Also, want to mention Marmalade looks really funny on the thumbnail) :)
Hi Chris, Cole & Marm! I love the videos. I can see how much they love you. We rescued many friendly strays, about 25 over time. We have 1 kitty left, becuz we're both elderly & she will be the last. I'm glad I could let them all live their senior years with us. We feel privileged to have had their company. Chris, you are such a great Cat-Dad. Merry Christmas!
This is great, thank you. The only thing I would advise against is hiding cords under rugs. Maybe I'm outdated but I was always taught that this was a fire hazard. Cats are pretty adverse to fire. ':3c
ICUSeriously yes! please please please do not place cords under rugs. The friction causes excess wear, and can cause the rubber on the outside to split and leave wires exposed, causing a spark. dangerous fire hazard. The other suggestions were much better, such as putting them in approved tubing/cord holders or spraying them with non-flammable gross tasting liquid.
i find tapeing the wires down with ducktape on the floors and hiding the wires under or behind furniture is a viable option aswell but you can only do this if you have hard floors, carpets won't be so easy.
My cats are not much for eating and chewing on stuff. One cat won't even eat little peaces of meat or tuna. My cat umbrella dose chew and eat stuff so we are carful. These are some good tips and the one about fire and accident is something I may talk to my parents about.
@@Patchwork_Dragon - outside, possibly, but keeping them inside anywhere is still a hazard. Even just the pollen of the plant floating in the air can harm your cat. It's essential to not have it in the house at all, whether the cat can get to it physically or not.
my 6ish month old kitten has been having diarrhea, i picked him up earlier and he started yeowling and had a accident on me, any ideas on what would settle my lik furbebys tommy? thanks!
Duncan Czeizinger have you ever changed his food brand or type recently? If not, he may be sick or have parasites. if it lasts more than a day, take him to the vet.
I would definitely take your kitten to the vet! With a kitten, there's no knowing what the problem could be, and they may not be strong enough to fight it on their own-and they shouldn't have to, really. Having said that, once you see the vet it's probably something that can be way easily treated! Now, I would bring a sample of the kitten's poo... (I know... But it's not difficult, is it?)
grytlappar he is getting fixed very soon, ill get another brand of cat food, and i live in tge country so the kittys go outside to use tge bathroom, its cold so they are as fast as possible :D
My cat once swallowed a thread of embroidery, and it got stuck in his small intestine. He had to do a 2000$ surgery, but luckily he came out okay. Be very careful sewing around your cats!
Be careful not to let your cats eat rubber bands. Many years ago my family had a cat that ate a lot of them and they got knotted up in her stomach and needed surgery.
I can't thank you enough for your very informative videos. My Mum and I recently adopted two beautiful in every way young cats. I am always looking for helpful information to better care for our furbabies, Sammy and Charlie are such blessings that Mum and I want to take the very best of care of them. Have a Rainbow Day.
Inferno productions Yeah, my lil kitty tried to eat a Reese's Peanut Butter cup and when I caught him, he was licking it, and I had to get him off the table. (Which is ironic because his name is Peanut Butter!) Sometimes I wounder if he was suicidal... But probably not.
Thank you for this, I never knew you could get those fire things, definitely gives peace of mind to be able to stick one on a window so people know if there's trouble to save your babies!!
I'm glad I'm growing up with Cole and Marm Because I'm getting educated and having wholesome memories and I remember getting my first shirt and I loved it dearly. Thank you Chris Poole (ps. I was 6 when I discovered your channel now I'm 16)
***** If I would get the stickers and put one in my door it would be consider as vandalism in my staircase and having the sticker in my door is not allowed in here. If I put it inside it would look stupid. And i cannot order them outside from my country because they are not official in here.
Margarita Dávila Hi. My two year old cat has just got one of these spots. My vet pointed it out on our !last visit. He said it was called lentigo and was absolutely normal as a cat ages.
Cole and Marm are two of the best fur babies and we must all do everything we can to keep them safe from harm. Please Save Our Pets signs are a really great idea!
I knew a lot when I had my cat, but not everything that is shown here. I think it's great of you! I didn't do it badly, Peterle was 19 years old. He only stole a lot of food because he could open all the doors. And once he dismantled our Christmas tree in the night - it was hard work.
I love cats I cry if I think that how many cats die in one year without food or water can you tell me that water which comes out of electrical machines what will happen if cats drink that water please reply ☺☺☺
Setting off fireworks day and night? Good God Chris, who the hell lives next to you? What kind of maniacal neighbors do you have? Maybe we should start a kickstarter fund to send you a section of fire hose so you can link up to the nearest fire hydrant on your own?
Fifthrider I live right next to Washington DC and this is the case! All week before the fourth of July and all sorts of other holidays like new year's and even Christmas
5th of novmber in the uk is the same, people light fireworks one week prior to that day and it sounds like world war 3 out there, i can understand why cats would be terrified of that.
isaphana...I was just now scanning the comments, and read yours as "I have neighbors that set off badgers." Badgers? Your neighbor explodes badgers on holidays?? What the fluff kind of neighbor is that!?! Oh wait. My bad, LOL.
If i remember correctly, a couple in Japan (international marriage so one grew up in the US, so english following mostly) has yet to discover how to keep their cat from the trash. He was a stray and became very food motivated after rescue, so they had to baby proof their food cabinet. So he learned the trash held food from his owners. They haven't figured out how to stop him, even back when he was falling into it and not able to get out (it was one of the swinging doors one)
Excellent video. There are SO many dangers & risks in the home & garden for cats. This covers a lot of them. Well done. Another couple: always watch carefully when shutting doors (never slam doors or shut without looking) & walking up or down stairs (especially if carrying something). Always watch your feet. Rocking chairs & riser recliners are risks to crush tails or worse for an inquisitive cat. Teaching All other family members these things too especially children. The single biggest danger to cats is us: ignorance and/or negligence.
Now I'm really paranoid for my cats when they are home alone
I don't have a cat, but we plan to get one in the future so this information will be vital.

Really? That sounds like 1930's advice, when cords were cloth-covered... But I could be totally wrong.
There are special types of rugs/coverings that can be used for cords, but not regular cloth ones
wonderful video. so helpful and may save many a cat's life whose owner heeds this video.
I just ordered the pet stickers and wallet cards as I have five furbabies, three of which are rescues.
awww marms face on the thumbnail 😍
This may be the most important video a cat lover could ever watch. Thank you for a GREAT tutorial!
Hi, whilst I was looking for the pet alert sticker and card I came across a website and I read that most of the time firefighters ignore the stickers. But it won't stop me from getting an pet alert sticker and card. As I love my pet's so much. 🐶🐺
Lauren Kerrie Mackereth i would stick a jumbo one and a couple small ones, bcz they aint gonna ignore my two furry babies lol
God!!! His voice is so soothing. I'll buy an audiobook about cat narrated by him. 😊
Excellent input! Some stuff I wasn't aware of. I used to even wash my hands when I got home before petting my "roommates," because I didn't want them grooming themselves and ingesting anything I happened to get on my hands, e.g., after pumping gas for my car, or handling cash $.
Where can I get the emergency card and sticker? Also thanks Chris for the video
Leia Organa you can get one at your local pet store
Also a link in the description
Leia Organa Or the ASPCA has a free pet safety pack that they'll send you if you fill out a form on their website.
Thank you all for the comments I already ordered one.
I didn't see this until after I posted my comment. Just ordered one, thanks!
Same goes for dog medicine that shouldn’t be given to cats. There is a topical medication for dogs to remove ticks. If you put them on cats they die.
Exorhythm do you think he just died there? He meant they couldn't do anything
So they watched their dog die without doing anything?
That sounds like a horrible death! I hope they are ok.
My neighbor was an old man, and he apparently got really sick. He apparently wasn't able to leave the hospital no one knew what had happened to him, and his cat passed away because he was trapped in the house with no food or water.
marisol contreras That makes me sad :(
If you are only sad for the cat I will fucking bash your head in
Do you think I am heartless? I feel terrible for both, the cat more because it perished, the man also because he probably lost his best friend and couldn't do anything about it.
Jane Hibberd I don't know if you are purposely being stupid or you are just trying to look above me
I hope the man gets better.
Plus, My cat Jools ate a feather toy once and almost.......... umm.. she had to get a big surgery. Careful, peeps!
Almost??? C h k o e d?
Died or choked I almost choked on a dorito once and that happened in 2016 and I probably have never eaten a dorito since
kate rao My cat throws up every now and then, it keeps her healthy, if cats throw up often like my cat, it’s fine.
@Linda ferguson How long did it take for you to find out that the feather had damaged your kitty's intestine?
(ik i'm late) maybe this bally avocado thingy is dangerous
*Eats a whole chocolate bar in one bite*
“What?! Just keeping my cats safe!”
You Sure Its *Hyperbolic* In Any Way?
Yea it totally depends on the cat. They still might surprise you lol
Good on your for feeding your cat real food. My kitty is not fortunate enough to eat steak but she get chicken, beef, lamb and fish, way better than chemical riddled cat foods.
Great job educating all your fans yet again, Chris:)
Thank you so much for all this information. Although I thought our home was pet proofed for the holiday there were a couple of things you made me aware of I did not know. Where did you get the window sticker to alert the fire department that pets were inside?
Pam Duncan noice last name you have there 😂
Its a very good name :) Thank you
Pam Duncan :D
on the internet!

I have furbabies and now I'm going to keep my parents way from them
On cords, as a tech i have tons of them and the cats love any type of string/cord.
Things I have trained (aka we have mutually agreed on :p) them to do:
Not allowed outside no matter how long door is left open, not allowed on counter/stove/only coffee table I put food on, I do a lot of around the house diy "so leave the room" is a big one, no begging/eating human food ever. Those are our house rules. House rules elsewhere may vary ;).
I never knew the save our pets sticker
Manh this shows u really care for ur pets
Loads of love respect and prayers
... I don't even HAVE a cat.
'Coke'
THEN STOP WATCHING THIS VIDEO
Chill out, a person can watch things of their own will.
+Javier Heras Uh, what if I love cats but my parents won't allow me to keep one?
Shikadai Nara idkys ( I Don't Know You Say )
Great video, very informative. Reminding all pet owners they need to pay attention to every detail. I will share this video now.
Also, found the card and sign saying that there are pets on the home very useful. Thank you! (Also, want to mention Marmalade looks really funny on the thumbnail) :)
WilD JeSTeR where do you get the cards???
I need that pet alert sticker for my cat, didn't even know about it until now, thanks!
I love how you always make perfect use of that 1:04 Marm reaction shot.
Well marm is always shocked
Hi Chris, Cole & Marm! I love the videos. I can see how much they love you. We rescued many friendly strays, about 25 over time. We have 1 kitty left, becuz we're both elderly & she will be the last. I'm glad I could let them all live their senior years with us. We feel privileged to have had their company. Chris, you are such a great Cat-Dad. Merry Christmas!
Holy crap how are my cats still alive?!
Kadomex hahah right
over paranoid ppl
Kadomex yeah
Well its not overparanoid. Its just all very Detailed ist that CAN happen.
Yes, I was taught that wires under rugs was a big no-no.
i find tapeing the wires down with ducktape on the floors and hiding the wires under or behind furniture is a viable option aswell but you can only do this if you have hard floors, carpets won't be so easy.
HUYI1 I use duct tape too!
My cats are not much for eating and chewing on stuff. One cat won't even eat little peaces of meat or tuna. My cat umbrella dose chew and eat stuff so we are carful. These are some good tips and the one about fire and accident is something I may talk to my parents about.
You guys rock, thanks for loving these babies so much.. there are so many that are homeless and can only dream of a home like yours.
Oh no!! I have Lily's in my house! It's 4:00 in the morning... but I have to save my cats and throw the flowers away right now!!!
You could put them in an outside garden, or just put them in an inaccessible place that they can't reach and cant jump on :^]
@@Patchwork_Dragon no
@@lobojulita2475 ?
@@Patchwork_Dragon - outside, possibly, but keeping them inside anywhere is still a hazard. Even just the pollen of the plant floating in the air can harm your cat. It's essential to not have it in the house at all, whether the cat can get to it physically or not.
your cats are adorable and very curious. excellent videos!
thank you! ill be much more careful now!
my 6ish month old kitten has been having diarrhea, i picked him up earlier and he started yeowling and had a accident on me, any ideas on what would settle my lik furbebys tommy?
Thus is him being a spoiled little turd 😂

Thanks for the last idea. It was very smart.
My cat once swallowed a thread of embroidery, and it got stuck in his small intestine. He had to do a 2000$ surgery, but luckily he came out okay. Be very careful sewing around your cats!
Cole is a great lil helper
The fire part made me physically cry.
RIP Meowzer, you were a good kitty!
Be careful not to let your cats eat rubber bands. Many years ago my family had a cat that ate a lot of them and they got knotted up in her stomach and needed surgery.
very good and important info and advice. thanks
Thank you Chris! This vid made me realize there is so much I don’t know & it’s so helpful, want to take the best care I can of my fur baby 💕
where can you find those stickers for the window?
growsnakelot why do I see you everywhere
ThePootisPow idk😂
Fury tried to eat chocolate once but I took it away
Inferno productions okay
Why'd you name your cat Fury, lol
Inferno productions Yeah, my lil kitty tried to eat a Reese's Peanut Butter cup and when I caught him, he was licking it, and I had to get him off the table. (Which is ironic because his name is Peanut Butter!) Sometimes I wounder if he was suicidal... But probably not.
Good for you , you are very responsible
She once ate a crumb that was left in the table bu nothng ever happened to her
Thank you for the informations, such a great video. Btw love Marm and Cole a lot! From Malaysia
Thankyou for helping me protect my furbaby. I always worry while gone about some tragedy happening. These tips helped.
Thank you for this, I never knew you could get those fire things, definitely gives peace of mind to be able to stick one on a window so people know if there's trouble to save your babies!!
My cats name is hazard :3
The hazard your cat has is: Adorable. All cats are cute
Mine is called snowball 🌨️my cat is adorable 🐈😻
Oh the irony....
Btw, my 2 cats names are Loki and Lucifer
My cat's name is KitKat
My cat's name is... cat
Fireworks gotta adopt the Italian way no noise no explosions. Its really no good way to "celebrate"
excellent video!! 👍👍👏👏👏 Animals are like our children. must be kept safe, properly cared for and deserves lots n lots of wuv! 😁😙
I'm glad I'm growing up with Cole and Marm Because I'm getting educated and having wholesome memories and I remember getting my first shirt and I loved it dearly. Thank you Chris Poole (ps. I was 6 when I discovered your channel now I'm 16)
Thank you so much for posting this information. You are helping to keep our little babies safe. 🐈🐱🐾
😭my cat ate a Pom Pom and we had to make a choice to either put her down or get sugary so we got surgery luckily my little kitty is all fine💕
I'm so glad they're okay...
Sadly we don't have emergency cards or stickers where I live
same
You could by one online
Über Kirbeeh the aspca has a free option they send you: secure.aspca.org/form/free-pet-safety-pack
***** If I would get the stickers and put one in my door it would be consider as vandalism in my staircase and having the sticker in my door is not allowed in here. If I put it inside it would look stupid. And i cannot order them outside from my country because they are not official in here.
You could make your own with a piece of paper and tape it to the door.
what are those dark spots on Marmalade's mouth? My cat has them and I want to know what they are. Just simply spots and nothing else?
they're just freckles, some cats get them as they age c:
Margarita Dávila the dots are due to age , my cats 12 she has loads x
Thank you for answering me! I was a little bit worried because I didn't knew what they were 😂
As long as the "spots" are not elevated, they are fine. Masses are a different story.
He only stole a lot of food because he could open
all the doors.
And once he dismantled our Christmas tree in the night - it was hard work.
I love cats I cry if I think that how many cats die in one year without food or water can you tell me that water which comes out of electrical machines what will happen if cats drink that water please reply ☺☺☺
My story you tube channel I would guess that it is harmful, so don’t let any animal get to it! :)
"water which comes out of electrical machines" What do you mean? If it's just a filter machine or a water dispenser, there's nothing wrong with it.
From two days before until two days after new years eve the fireworks are like war here in the whole country.
5th of novmber in the uk is the same, people light fireworks one week prior to that day and it sounds like world war 3 out there, i can understand why cats would be terrified of that.
Fifthrider I have neighbours that set off bangers... I have three cats
isaphana...I was just now scanning the comments, and read yours as "I have neighbors that set off badgers." Badgers? Your neighbor explodes badgers on holidays?? What the fluff kind of neighbor is that!?! Oh wait. My bad, LOL.
Who else does not have a cat and is just watching for fun? Just me...no?
*i don't have a cat*
I had 2 goldfish. There dead now
Have no cats, lol! But am a dog owner and a lot of the human food no’s apply to dogs too!
Thanks for the helping everyone keep their cats safe!
Marmalade reminds me a lot of my Piper. She will eat anything....
Summer Folster hahajahahahahaahahahaahahahha!!!!!!!
Omg I have 3 poinsettia in my living room! Thanks for letting me know!
my cat ate a tiny piece of ribbon before. Thankfully he threw it up!
Thank you so much for making this PSA! We must always look out for our fur babies :3
Aww so many things can hurt cats
TIME TO BRING OUT THE CATNIP !!!
Give me that nightmare before Christmas snow globe!!
All that chocolate at one time, with no peanut butter smeared on it...or graham crackers and marshmallows.....
I have a little fur baby myself, and I ♥️ her, so I'll definitely be keeping track of all these things!
Thanks!
