    Good video. You were very thorough. I’ve always heard it called a two way refrigerant valve but from now on I’m calling it the octopus. Perfect for it. Great video.

    That's a lot of good info. Had a tech come out and they just filled with gas and called it a day .A few days later the fridge wad hot again, no gas .Nobody wants to fix anything anymore but then they want to get paid. I'm a pretty good at diy and have most of the tools. I will be doing my own diagnostics following your video.

      What about him violating EPA section 608? In the United States that's a 25k fine. You cannot use and non combustible to test a system if a leak is know or suspected.

    Great video! Thank you Jesus. Admire your patience in explaining how to find the leak. You are right most technicians says don't bother to find the leak because it is so difficult. One question that i have is: Is handling the R134a hazardous to your health? SJ

    • @JesseApplianceRepair
      @JesseApplianceRepair  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks for the feedback. Yeah it is. It is still considered a chemical. but its not like deadly if you happen to breath it by accident. it is always recommended to use a recovery tank if you are gonna release gas from the compressor. 134 is not flammable . so it wont explode. others do tho.. like the new 600a they came up with. those are usually on smaller mini fridges and will have a flame symbol by the compressor. those you do have to handle with care. those are needed to handle with special pliers. no welding/soldering or it will explode. in the other hand 134 wont. just use a facemask if you need to release the gas and try doing it outside to vent out incase you don't have the recovery tank.

    Ya’ll are not legally allowed to add freon without making sure the system is SEALED. not only is it terrible for the environment but your health aswell. Azote + wate and soap is the way to do it… in Canada this is a crazy fine for doing this

      Sorry for the delay. If its on copper you can solder it easily. There is also solder for aluminum but it is more challenging. But you can get a Solderless Bonding Kit that doesn’t require a torch.

    • @JesseApplianceRepair

      just depends on the system 300-500. finding it, patching it and recharge of Freon. sometimes lines might be damaged so we have to replace copper lines.

    Good Morning ,
    what will be the running pressure with double coils.should be the same pressure when it runs freon to the freezer side .what will be the standing pressure.

    • @JesseApplianceRepair
      @JesseApplianceRepair  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      when you connect your lines to the Lower side on the Compressor, My gauges read left side about 5 psi when the freon is full. aprox around 8 ounces. the right side should be connected to the Drier filter for the High Side and on the Gauges on the right Color Red. That can go up to 120-140 psi. On the Model of the Fride if you check inside it will tell you what pressure each should be. so you are not guessing depening on models or sizes.

    Thank you for great video. I have a fridge like the one you are working on both sides of the refrigerator got warm, I unplugged it few times some time it will turn on cold for little bit then it will get warm. I checked the compressor fan it’s blowing air in the opposite way, it’s not blowing towards the compressor to keep it cold. Some time it doesn’t turn on at all. Any suggestions please.

    • @beck1377

      the compressor fan is supposed to be facing the condenser coils, not the compressor, so the setup is correct

    If the lines aren’t frosting over and the fridge is giving me a code that there is a Freon leak than am I completely out of Freon? Also I did try the soap method but I’m not finding any leak (extra) bubbles at all. Can the compressor does take R134A Freon can I use an auto ac Freon refill can with gauge to refill my lines or do I need to purchase an hvac line kit for my fridge?

    • @JesseApplianceRepair
      @JesseApplianceRepair  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Auto one works fine. ive used it in the past and never got a call back. Is your fridge getting cold at all? another way i can tell if there is no gas on the system is that the compressor starts to get silent. it gets quieter and hardly vibrates. atleast in most models.

  • @achimgazelle3641
    @achimgazelle3641 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi,
    Theoretically, you can also fill with oxygen instead of nitrogen in order to test, or not? Nitrogen is expensive as a refrigerant gas. after that you do a vacuum test anyway.

    • @tonyp6088
      @tonyp6088 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No no no! You can't use oxygen or an air compressor. Oxygen will cause corrosion inside the system. Nitrogen keeps the system dry and free from contaminates.

    • @achimgazelle3641
      @achimgazelle3641 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tonyp6088 But in the end, a vacuum is created again and the moisture is sucked out?

    • @tonyp6088
      @tonyp6088 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@achimgazelle3641 corrosion starts immediately as soon as the metal comes in contact with moisture. The compressor oil will also absorb the moisture and become acidic. The vac pump will remove the moisture if a deep vacuum is achieved but the corrosion will remain. That rust will shorten the life of the system and cause other internal problems especially with the metering device. The filter drier may also block up increasing head pressure and losing efficiency.
      Please don't get me wrong. If you're fridge is on it's way out anyway and you're fixing it yourself to save money and squeeze s little more time out of it whilst you save up for another one, then the longevity of the system is not that important. But no professional would deliberately put moisture into the system.

    • @achimgazelle3641
      @achimgazelle3641 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tonyp6088 but how can a copper pipe or an aluminium pipe immediately start to corrode? doesn't sound plausible to me. This material is specially installed so that it does not corrode. In addition, the compressor has a water separator, so the moisture is filtered beforehand and the moisture would be drawn out again at the latest under vacuum.

    Can you pressurize the system with nitrogen to find leak when the compressor already has freant. And what the gauges reading when you have a leak. Thank you

    • @JesseApplianceRepair
      @JesseApplianceRepair  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      sorry for the late reply. I dont recomment adding nitrogen while freon is in. I dont like Combining chemicals. even if you did add the Nitrogen you still have to release the nitrogen after your done checking. so best practice is. release Freon. add nitrogen about 100 Psi close gauges and check for leaks. (ONLY WHILE THE COMPREESSOR IS OFF) when you are gonna recharge the freon. inside the fridge you will see the sticker with the amount of Freon needed. 7 ounces 8.5 ounces etc. usually is around 5 PSI on a normal size fridge.

    Our Frigidaire Gallery french door fridge just stopped cooling 4 days ago. We removed everything from the fridge and unplugged it for a bit and then it turned it back on to try to reset it; but that didn't work; so we just unplugged it again and called our warranty company who then contacted a repair company. The repair guy came today and told us that because we had it unplugged, he couldn't diagnose whether or not it had a leak and that it would need to plug it back in and run it for 24 to 48 hours and he would come back to check it again. He won't be able to come back until Monday (4 days from now). It was plugged in all day and I opened the doors on the fridge temporarily to clean it and it had a strong smell inside. After I closed the doors, I notice now the smell has permeated the rest of the house at this point and I'm worried it could be coolant vapors we are breathing in. It is very strong right now. I called the repair company back and they told me that freon doesn't have a smell and just to put a box of baking soda inside. I did that; but I don't think that's going to help. Do you have any suggestions as to what the smell might be? It smells very chemical-like. I read online freon leaks can smell a bit like gasoline or fingernail polish remover. It does smell a little like polish remover. Any help is appreciated.....thanks.

    • @JesseApplianceRepair
      @JesseApplianceRepair  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      sorry for the late reply. If it was the Freon that leaked out it wont penetrate the plastic. Ive seen occasions where the fridge has been unplugged and had food gone bad and when that penetrates the plastic then you could not get rid of it.. But Freon smell goes away pretty quick. Most likely its gonna be that moisture smell of plastic that you are smelling. I usually clean it with bleach then like they recommended for you. Baking Soda. and let the fridge run when it starts to cool it will get rid of the smell.

    • @moldyal
      @moldyal ปีที่แล้ว

      My fridge did the same thing, didn’t even unplug it, cleaned it twice, cleaned the drain pan too , ducts have no mould, evaporator looks ok; but the sudden stench inside and outside the fridge leaves me to believe Freon. Old Freon, 13 year old fridge. I don’t see how if food smell from inside can permeate so strong to the outside rear of fridge, it’s a seal system.

      something like that i figured. but in the other hand if the last resort is using the uv dye to find the leak or the fridge will be considered a no fix. at least it can last a bit longer before the motor goes out. but if the leak is found with Nitrogen then that route should be better if the leak is found.
