If the government has reduced income and not reduced spending to the same level, it must borrow.

As the government borrows in NZD, that NZD had to have arisen through government spending in the past (because there is no other legal mechanism for NZD to arise). So what you are saying is that the government traded its NZD (IOU) for some goods and services from the private sector in the past. And then at some later date it asks to borrow back its own worthless IOU to spend it again on new goods and services.

Neoliberal economics and the debt based economy are big issues.

Michael, infrastructure funding creates large sums of ("borrowed") money which is injected into the financial system and the economy. This is a way to prolong the life of the entire international financial system if done in concert across many countries. You will find largely unnecessary projects of huge cost being undertaken continually in Japan, NZ, Australia, wherever, because it services the financial system like CPR to a dying patient. The previous governor of the RBNZ said in 2017 (I think) that "the future of banking in NZ depends on those willing to step up and borrow". Borrowing money into existance is temporary oxygen for a dying financial system that worldwide in the west, has been extended far beyond any concept of sustainability.

All money is a debt and has to be created by government or banks. We don't have commodity money as you seem to be suggesting.

    • @acegikmoii
      @acegikmoii 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@billwilson1320 Don't know where or how you got that notion. I say exactly what you say that "all money is debt and is created by government or banks" for the purpose of increasing the money supply in order to prolong the life of the system.

"Borrowing money into existence is temporary oxygen" implying it's not a normal thing we do? Not a clear statement then perhaps.

Hospital or Health spending is always rationed.
Could you compare the private hospitals to the public hospitals? E.g, cost to do the same work.

Why are airfares are higher now than 10 years ago? ( excluding fuel). The service is still the same and they more automated?

The problem is the TENDERING PROCESS, it is given to the lowest contractor and they do the worst possible job and then have to fix it up a couple of weeks/months after it breaks again, with further funding from the taxpayer.
We are all sick of this bollocks.
We need to look at the tendering process.........

Has the cost of creating infusrtucture increased under neoliberal economics more than compared to the 1950s to 1970s period(1975).

What is happening is a bit like happened to a friend of mine. He was working hard paying off debt and thought things were looking good then he went away for a couple of weeks and when he got home he found his wife had spent a heap of money and refurbished the kitchen because she didn’t like the colour and wanted new toys dropping him into even more debt than he started with.

Wells Fargo are in the process of leaving. So it's not that it might happen, it is happening. They provide finance to agricultural retailers and motorcycles amongst others. A huge US financial institution moving it's entire operation out of NZ.

remove tax deductions and tax advantage and tax free capital gains .

What we need to do is upgrade existing national infrastructure assets like 3 waters, roads, national rail network, etc to cater for spreading population and economic growth around all 16 regions of the country and only build new infrastructure to future proof for growth and effects of a warming planning. The problem with this country, it is addicted to a lot of hype and neoliberal 3 yearly cheap, quick fix thinking, planning and/or solution. Nearly 40 years of this addictions have been kicking major or hard decision 'cans' down the road to where there is not rooms for the all cans, leaving decision's in that to do with all these cans.

Don't blame the landlord they are just filling the housing shortage with thier OWN money, as an investment, other people might invest their money in other places. Landlords have to abide by the healthy homes legislation, they have obligations under the law.

@@johankaarekarlsen1383 it wasnt a blame on landlords it was pointing out the govts economic mismanagement. People in a position financially to be able to afford multiple homes should not need handouts or tax breaks to help with there investments compared to people that are actually struggling out there to get by week to week. They could have invested in more infrastructure or payed it down on debt

The realestate agent takes 8% off the top for managing the property, repairs and maintenance can cost 2-3 thousand dollars on average over a 10-15 year period.
Rental property insurance is higher than private.
The landlord takes all the risks,
including the possibility of having to claim back unpaid rent.
I am guessing that you are not a landlord or never have been one.
