I grew up playing the drums, and I became very familiar with this song before ever hearing this live version. As soon as the drummer set the beat, knowing the song, my first thought was “how tf is Grian going to keep this on pace all the way to the end, and hit every note in tune?” My jaw dropped at the very end. Thank god for Irish rock and roll.
I prefer the slow-burning album version speed. They played it live even faster at Zagreb Inmusic a few days earlier. Check it th-cam.com/video/RptALEkaN5Q/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=rabarbara
I’m 47 years old and have seen some great bands come and go over the years, Nirvana, Oasis, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, but these guys deserve to be in the conversation too. What a song and what a performance. Classic.
Just saw them on the weekend at Electric Picnic, honestly astonished at how good they are live. Frontman, Grian is unbelievable as well as the whole band. Something special with them
I love that the one guitarist is playing a Fender Rory Gallagher signature Strat. I'd heard of this band before, but have not listened to any of their music until today.
I discovered these guys from Carlos’ Pro Palestine speech at the Rolling Stone awards recently and bought a copy of Dogrel . I’m completely blown away by their music and soul, Viva Fontaines, DC, and free Palestine the Irish know about being occupied and slaughtered unfortunately
Could definitely see this in Top Of The Pops 1980s I remember being young and working on Top Of The Pops as an VT Operator recording all the live performances for the broadcast via HD Cams. What an incredible time too be alive, and yes I worked on TOTP whilst Jimmy Saville was the host 😂
This performance not even a year old and already iconic. Love that they just raise the bpm by about 20 live.
im not a fan of the faster beat works on some tracks live but not on ily for me still gtreat
@@mitchhickenfunny. Can't listen to the studio version after hearing this

this band are special beyond special ..if your lucky enough to see them peform live they take you to a poetic high blasted to hell and back...
Just booked tickets for Manchester this winter
Best band I’ve ever seen live, it will be amazing
Good description. That's exactly what you get. Just seen them in Dublin. They are getting better and better.
And this live video with all that pasta and pizza signs around the scene perfectly shows where is art at the moment...
They were my first gig ever and i loved every moment
Can't remember the last time I found an indie band genuinely fresh and exciting. These guys look the real deal.
Tbf I don't think they are fresh. Been going quite a while now
@@alexbrown8886 Their debut album came out 2019.. I'd say they're pretty fresh
Right on point!

cure bass mixed with smiths guitar and the fall vocals -thats fontaines.a class act
And the guitarist use Rory Gallagher signature Stratocaster. Masterclass!!
Sorry, but what? How are the vocals here remotely like the fall?
@Themusicman yes!! Agree with the cure bass but also sounds a lot like hooky’s bass lines
@@lewisholland172 nothing like The Fall, it's an odd comment, bar the bass being a bit Cure-ish.

They literally speed up 20 bpms in the first minute, still so amazing.
Why did they change the pacing is it for time reasons?
I must admit i was quite nervous when I heard the speed of the drummers count in 😂 Such a great performance
the live version of this song is absolutely incredible 🤯🤯
The faster tempo here is EVERYTHING! I feel it in my soul.
still leading the way for song of the year

Playing a huge festival, and their tone and playing is so tight that it sounds like Rick Rubin worked on this track for 5 months.
