How woud you write that rule? If disc hits a member of staff, then no penalty? If it hits someone way off the fairway, no penalty? Players don't necessarily see if disc would have come inbounds or if the disc hits someone. Or if disc hits a tree, should it be no penalty? Would give a lot of room for speculation. Sucks to have something like that happening especially when spotter is just being an idiot. He saw the disc the whole time and could have stepped/walked out of the way, but decided to jump over the disc. Rules should have very little, if any rule for speculation so I would not make a rule from this.
The staff just need to be briefed and trained better IMO. Volunteers or not. That hole sees a lot of rollers, everybody knows it. Spectators should NOT be on the left side OB and spotters should be ready to get away from the OB line the moment a roller is heading that way.
If you can re-throw because of intentional interference on a drive, he should have been able to re-throw on 16. Although the spotter didn't intentionally try to stop it, he very much intentionally remained on line with the disc and very intentionally positioned himself on the inside of the curl so it would sweep just under his outer leg. He was trying to have fun with and interact with Gurthie's throw. That's undeniable. And it's undeniably avoidable because he just had to stay on the outside of the roll. A spotter's entire job is to observe while staying clear. It's interference. Gurthie should have thrown a provisional re-tee.
I was the spotter on 12 and lemme tell ya, a disc from GG coming in hot keeps you on your toes. He came to me after asking if his disc hit my flags. After seeing this, no way it could.
Pretty shitty. That spotter deliberately stayed in that disc's path. Penalizing the player for what a soectator did intentionally sucks. If there's a rule about spectators that intentionally don't make a reasonable effort to not interfere, I could see a TD invoking a rethrow or otherwise in this case. That spotter deliberately did not remove himself from the path of the disc in a reasonable way.
Idk how reasonable it could be, but could they take it where it hit the spotter without a penalty? I know there's no good way to deal with it other than having the spotters more out of the way or something.

Spotters can absolutely see a disc coming, and it's their responsibility to not impede the progress of the disc to their best ability, while still being able to perform their role of spotting. They are not supposed to be fixtures of the course. If a spotter cannot see a disc coming, they need to be either better trained, better positioned, or better selected. Hole 13 isn’t too bad with that pin placement. I find the other placement to be the most boring hole and have for years. 6 guys got a birdie on it in round three. That number likely goes up next year if they keep it. Better than the boring Hyzer, Hyzer, Hyzer play.

Why did the spotter not move to the left or right ? so unfair to get a stroke from that. atleast let DubbleG play without a stroke from where the disc is...
There's no good way to write that rule. The rule should be, make sure your spotters comport themselves professionally, and get out of the way of rolling discs. And if they can't do that, they don't get to spot.
I get the same impression. It's interesting because his commentary is outstanding, if you've ever heard him. He clearly has an excellent mind for the game strategically and clearly he can put it together physically enough to put himself in contention, but I can only imagine what he could do if he relaxed a bit-- maybe he just appears to be that way and doesn't feel it.
In the spotters defense we werent in front of that tree. And it takes a hop after it appears to hit a dip in the grass or something. So i dont really know but I know that spotter feels horrible for the result.
Paul, long time no “pack a lunch” comment, please bring it back! That was some A-game commentary wise when you used to pull them off on daily basis! Moreover, who’s with me on that the abbreviation OB should be redefined to Oh-Boy, I mean Jerm is anyway saying it everytime the disc goes Out of Bounds 😅
The bs that happened on hole 16 would make me so angry I don't know if I would be composed enough to stay in competition. His disc was clearly going in bounds and was interfered by someone not even playing. New rule should be just to place it inbounds where it stopped and not count as out of bounds.
That's so dumb though, how do rule on ¨clearly going in bounds¨. If someone blasts a shot ob and is tracking for a tree but hits a spotter, can he then just claim that it was about to kick ib so he should get no penalty? These things happen and is unfortunate, but it is rare so we just have to deal with it. I think the worst part about this situation is that it looks like he intentionally positioned himself so that he could jump the disc. If that's true hopefully spotters see this clip and the thought of jumping a rolling disc will never ever cross their minds.
@@bosmith6992 I think if they have video evidence clearly showing that it was going to go back in, or have a good chance to go back in, then was stopped by a person, that should either be a re-tee, put it back where it crossed out of bounds, or back in bounds where it stopped out of bounds. Either way, there's gotta be something to fix that, it's just not fair.

I'm sure many disc golf viewers and GG fans would pay good money to see this guy get what he deserves.
The Garrett spotter shot issue is such a hard one. On video we can clearly see that was very likely gonna curl back in and probably get to non-OB but in the live moment the spotter is not paying attention and out of position as to possibly even make a call of "this is gonna stay in" or "this is going out". Feel for him, it's like they say the good breaks go to the leaders and it feels the unlucky goes to those who are just collapsing
Understand the hate of hole 13…but it’s the same for everyone, and someone did make a birdie…at the highest level of disc golf that’s more than fair IMO. Some holes you just play for par, and SHOULD play over par. I’m a fan
I think that spectator/staff thing should be a rule. If it’s clearly coming back in bounds, player should be able to play from that spot without a penalty.
I missed it live but im hearing the spotter clearly moved into the shot to be cute and try to send it through his legs purposefully and got too excited and didnt see the dip in the ground in front of him and it flew up and hit him, clearly an intentional "accident" 😂
just in case someone didn't know, jerm doesn't like hole 13. it's cool that it's a par 5 so we get almost 8 minutes of jerm saying the same thing over and over again
The rule needs to be more defined than that, because that could be taken advantage of theoretically. Also trying to determine where a disc would have finished is pretty much impossible to do accurately in a lot of cases of spectators being hit. In cases where a disc is saved from OB by hitting a spectator(or their equipment), there is no penalty or re-throw. So it's really about how much space they need to give players to play the game without interference. Ideally there would be not spectators anywhere near where a disc would fly, but these courses aren't built like that. They would have to cut back on spectator space, which is the opposite of what they want to do. Tricky situation, but I agree that a player shouldn't suffer due to the incompetence of a spotter.
If I were to shank a tee shot straight ob and accidentally hit a person, why should I get rewarded for it? your rule is dumb. This is very simple, it rarely ever happens but it sucks really bad when it do happen.
If you're using OB territory as a way of getting a roller (or any shot) back in bounds, you know there's going to be people standing there. It's a natural hazard just like the bushes on the right side. That guy's not being paid to dodge discs (if at all). He's a known factor just like any other obstacle that exists, especially in off-fairway areas.
So if card agree then hitting a spectator 200 ft off the fairway could be a re-throw? Too much speculation and would not be good as a rule. Lot of discussions and delays in game to have that when spectators or staff is hit. This happens so rarely that just accept the loss. I hope the spotter learned a lesson to follow the game and stop messing around with jumping over discs when he can just walk out of the way.
@@kimmomatikainen1843 very true. I think this specific situation sparked alot of anger by the fact that it looked like the spotter intentionally postioned himself to jump the disc, hopefully that'll never fucking happen again.
@@kimmomatikainen1843I agree with keeping the rules simple. I don't think the card would agree to a re-throw if you shank it into the crowd, but there could also be some scenario where the card is all buddies and would abuse the rule. It was just a thought

Someone is coo coo for Coco Puffs
If Aaron gets better at putting he will be a menace! One of my favorite players to watch from the tee!
You’d think all that money that Heinold grabs every year, he could do away with volunteer spotters.
Who’s doing everyone’s dishes right now?
Buddy is lucky he didn't get Kung Lao'd with Garrets roller. Flawless victory
I think Jerm doesn’t like the new placement on hole 13 guys
why dont they show the disc choices on all shots?
They don’t know everyone’s bag perfectly, just their most common discs.
1 feet away from a all time classic Ace
26:21 well hello
i hope uli brings up the water tower door the next 2 rounds
Jerm just has to hammer his points home
I also want to know what's behind that door 😆
Mostly a big tube and a ladder for maintenance
Why no NoMez for Dickerson on hole 10?
Hole 13 must have been cooking because someone was doing the mthr fkn dishes afterwards (Is Jomez recorded in a greasy spoon diner this whole time?)
gossage just feels so physically tense. i swear if he could relax more, he'd be incredible. its hard to watch him putt
I've watched him in person a few times. You can feel it just from being a spectator.
Germ loves hole 13
why didn't garreth throw a provisional? the disc was altered by a volonteer. throw a provisional and take it up with the TD after.
I think the worst part about this situation is that it looks like he
intentionally positioned himself so that he could jump the disc.
Bro!? Get the F out of the way! Why did he just stand there and watch the disc hit him??
He actually was out of the way had he not moved from his initial position when the disc was thrown. He thought he'd be cute and move left into the path of the disc and lift his leg for his 1 second of fame. Epic fail. He should only volunteer to spar with MMA heavyweights in the future.
I’m a fan
Jerm just has this thing where if he doesn’t like a hole, no one should like the hole
that spotter is pretty cool
I think that spectator/staff thing should be a rule. If it’s clearly coming back in bounds, player should be able to play from that spot without a penalty.
How do one decide on ¨clearly coming back in bounds¨ no one can actually rule on that.
I missed it live but im hearing the spotter clearly moved into the shot to be cute and try to send it through his legs purposefully and got too excited and didnt see the dip in the ground in front of him and it flew up and hit him, clearly an intentional "accident" 😂
27:55…what you came here for
just in case someone didn't know, jerm doesn't like hole 13. it's cool that it's a par 5 so we get almost 8 minutes of jerm saying the same thing over and over again
Spotter having his hands behind his back tells you all you need to know
Hole 12 sounds like they're filming in a diner.
The rule would be easy. If a disc hits a person and causes the disc to not finish its momentum you re-throw...why is that hard?
Maybe if the card unanimously agrees to a re-throw when a spectator is hit, they could allow it
So if card agree then hitting a spectator 200 ft off the fairway could be a re-throw? Too much speculation and would not be good as a rule. Lot of discussions and delays in game to have that when spectators or staff is hit. This happens so rarely that just accept the loss.
I hope the spotter learned a lesson to follow the game and stop messing around with jumping over discs when he can just walk out of the way.
Well, I wouldn't agree as your card mates, aka your opponents, shouldn't be making any decisions in a sport. Sadly, that's the game, though
Hole 12. Gossage gets the follow flight, Keith just as close gets the replay, Dickerson skips off the coping between the rim and the chains and nothing. it well was worth replaying it at 1/4 speed
Uli + Floaties + Intertube in front of the water tower door stamp: When?
That spotter tried to do too much thinking there was only one outcome, not having the logical sense to realize its a damn disc and it can do anything at any given time while rolling across uneven ground. Get out of GGs way please and the out of the way of the game while its in action in general.
Inside of the water tower is empty haha there’s a huge ladder that you climb to get to the top where all of the important equipment is
Does anyone else reeally want to go fishing in that lake? There's some bass in there fo sho...
It looked like the volunteer legit blocked the shot. Like jumped in fromt of it.
Garrettgate 2024!
They got oldest, least athletic dudes out here spotting 😂
Double G has a right to be furious.
