I was fortunate enough to find a bottle of Ransom, The Emerald. Thank you Daniel for bringing this to our attention. What a beautiful dram. Great nose and unique flavors on the palate.

I just want to thank you gentlemen for having a wonderful channel that is entertaining as well as informative. Watching you has greatly expanded my collection of whiskeys. I was a Jack Daniel's drinker for years but always wanted something more but kept being disappointed by the choices because I never wanted to throw money away on something I would not drink again. I like peated whisky and now have the knowledge to be able to find those that won't make me sit there thinking I'm munching on a block of sod. Thank you again for all the help and laughter.

David Wondrich is also an author. I am currently listening to the audiobook version of "Imbibe!". I'm learning things about the history of American cocktails that I didn't even know that I needed to know.

I actually got asked the Whiskey-Punishment question last Friday. I work with a lot of doctors and they're starting to know me as "the whiskey guy" in the office, and one of them asked me if I ACTUALLY enjoy them, because he had "La-Frog" (Laphroiag) as a punishment at a poker game and can't see any redeeming qualities. I then proceeded to tell him to get "Kilchomen" for his next poker game.

Giving something time is the perfect way to describe the process of learning to love new styles of Whiskey. If you try a whiskey you might not like on the first or second try, mix it up a bit and try it again with something that will complement the positives that are pleasant to your palate.

Guys, you're KILLING ME. I sent in that bottle of Infuse Spirits Broken Barrel Bourbon that's been behind Daniel's head for the last few weeks OVER A YEAR AGO!! MAYBE TWO!! It's gonna put some oak in your tree, and I gotta know; do you love it or hate it??!!

typically the smaller craft makers are making better 'new make' out of better cuts and better inputs. barrel aging will be shorter with better new make to keep the balance.

Regarding the reward for a difficult journey: I am amazed at how many people have not learned to appreciate black coffee.

Just as neat whisky isn't for everyone, neither is delicious black coffee, but... you're probably not going to make that journey with Maxwell House, at any rate!
I drink Cafe Bustelo, which I love! Others, who are also black coffee drinkers, can't stand the stuff! Other's still, who aren't black coffee drinkers likely wouldn't be persuaded by by it's... flavors which I'm not prepared to describe, as I'm only a laymen who loves coffee!

Stuck at an airport in Denver trying to get home from Albuquerque to St. Louis. And asked for an Eagle Rare neat from the bar and as the bartender poured my drink there happened to be a bottle down and I celebrated by humming It’s Raining Men🧔🏽🥃

The way I compare trying to get tasting notes from a peated versus a non-peated whiskey; looking for tasting notes on a non-plated whiskey is like trying to read braille through latex gloves, a little challenging, but doable. Trying to find tasting notes in a peated whiskey is like trying to read braille while wearing two pairs of leather gloves.

Hey fellas Summertime is upon us here Downunder, got any warm weather whiskey recommendations?
FYI the great thing about drinking whiskey in Australia is that all you have is open the cork and open your mouth as gravity takes care of the rest.

When Daniel said, in a somewhat salacious voice' that he knew Emerald "intimately", I thought he was going to say he got drunk on it and ended up in the bedroom. :-)

You always hear about adding water to a whiskey to alter the flavors. Why do you never hear about adding salt?
Would that do anything aside from just adding to brininess, as far as changing flavor compounds and the ways things interact/present?

If you were introducing someone to scotches, what regional progression would you use? Maybe lowland to highland to speyside to Islay? Just curious.

There's a specific way to take that top off, boys! Hold the bottle with one hand to keep it stationary and on the top, wrap four fingers around the neck and place your thumb on the other side, like you're giving a thumbs up. Then push forward with the thumb and the top will pop off

Hi everyone. Relatively new to the community, love the channel, yadda yadda, something ass kissy. Sorry for the damn novel I'm about to write. The other day I picked up a few whiskeys, got excited and tried all three when I got home. Long story short I ended blowing out my palette on Rittenhouse Rye, ruining my first taste of Old Crow (not that there's much to ruin). At first I thought the whiskey was broken. All I could taste made me think of unsalted, unbuttered, sour popcorn. Oops. Loved the rye though. Just tried it again and I'm finding the sweetness now. It's not bad but I think I prefer whiskeys that are liable to punch you in the teeth. Cheers!
