its cool seeing more people recognize ol puddin, that boy makes some incredible content. great seeing him get some recognition, he deserves alot more subs with how much work and teaching he does.
This may help you to under stand,, The early 168 teeth flywheels had a bolt pattern for a 10in clutch. The 10in clutch has now been replaced with a 10 1/2in (or if you prefer, 10.4in) clutch which used the SAME bolt pattern for the pressure plate. The FIRST Chevy V8 flywheels were all the 168 teeth version up through 1962. Then in 63, the smaller 153 teeth flywheel was introduced. Those flywheels ONLY USED the 10 1/2in clutch. MOST of the early 168 teeth flywheels had the bolt pattern for a 10 or 10 1/2in clutch. But, some of the early 168 teeth flywheels (police, taxi, HD, truck, etc) did have a bolt pattern for an 11in clutch. So, here is where I'm going with all of this. Just because a flywheel is the 168 teeth version, IT MUST HAVE THE CORRECT BOLT PATTERN in order to use an 11in clutch!!! Beginning ABOUT 1962-63, MOST 168 teeth flywheels did have the bolt pattern for an 11in clutch. Now, here is one more variation of the 168 teeth flywheel. SOME of them had a dual bolt pattern which permitted either an 11in or a 10 1/2in pressure plate to be bolted to the flywheel. But those were usually service replacement flywheels. And, since the 12in clutch was mentioned, it also was used with the 168 teeth flywheel. BOTH 11in and 12in clutches used the same bolt pattern on a 168 teeth flywheel. FROM THE FACTORY, the only 12in clutches used in Chevrolets was truck applications, such as 1ton and larger. The 12in truck clutches required a different bell housing to accomodate the larger diameter of the 12in pressure plate. There are AFTERMARKET 12in pressure plates that WILL FIT inside the stock pass car bell housing, such as the 621 housing. Below is a 153 and 168 teeth flywheel. The 168 teeth flywheel has the bolt holes near the edge of the flywheel. This is the bolt pattern necessary for an 11in clutch (or 12in).
Randy synchros are made out of brass and yes they should have teeth all the way around when they disintegrate they fall to the bottom of the oil and don't cause any glitter in like metal so it's a simple rebuild
GM had a 10 1/2 inch clutch and an 11 inch clutch. You took out an 11 inch clutch setup and bought everything for a 10.5 inch clutch. Those original GM 11 inch clutch bellhousings are becoming very hard to find. Stick with the 11 inch setup, you'll be happier in the long run.
I am a big believer in always change the clutch when you have the tranny out. Saw a guy who had his 427 engine rebuilt, engine out, tranny out, complete rebuild. Clutch was about half worn if that and he decided it was OK. A year later, or a little less and engine barely broke in, clutch went bad. Car sat for the next 16 years when finally someone offered to come and fix it for him. He himself could not do it himself. I shouldn't even need to mention what happens to a car made in the 60's that sits for 16 years. Just a word for the wise.
love it seeing this type of stuff. not a lot of people show the work, but love it when you show it, & how hard it can be. but i feel in love with that car, she so nice. love it
Great work Randy. Awesome to hear you give a shoutout to Puddin' and JR Go.. I watch both their channels and of course Santa's Workshop, Monkey Wrench Mike, LunarOutlaw'sGarage as well as many others.. Keep it up guys!!
Thanks for this video Randy really like the chevelle! Are you gonna keep the old transmission and have it rebuilt? Once you and Mike finish this muscle car she’s gonna be a beast!
GET your flywheel resurfaced, get a good 11" clutch and pp, and throw out bearing, your old trans needs torque lock sliders, that will cure your popping out of gear problem
Those Muncie 4 speeds are pretty easy to work on you don't really need special tools get new syncros the brass rings New bearings get a manual easy to fix
Since you are now Holly sponsored. Can you get side fender protection blankets from them? It will make them screentime and protect your fenders at the same time?
You blew up a Muncie? That's a feat considering the power output of that old 396... Those things are practically indestructible! Fwiw those things are a flywheel and pilot bearing.
I hope you have the trans' you took out rebuilt. I personally think it just needs the first gear synchronizer replaced, and I'd replace the linkage parts that seem worn like the one fork you think has wear on it. If anything else you can have the parts it needs replaced and sell it to recoup some of your money.
Change the synchronizers and the shift forks, and you'll be back in business. I've rebuilt several M-20s, M-21s, and M-22s over the years. Parts are available.
That is gonna be fun a with a new transmission in it. Santa is back, he’s a really cool guy. You should have Santa on the channel more often. Anyways Randy what do you have planned for the summer? Are you doing anything else to the Focus? What about the Power Wagon are you gonna mod that anymore? Randy I wanna work on diesels, so what do you think about that?
Great content Randy on how to rebuild one of my favorite transmission good old Muncie 4 speed problem here tho is company u bought rebuild parts for sent stuff for either 305 or 350 but needit parts 396 big block mannn that sucks not right u could re-use bell housing just put new clutch plate & flywheel together. It's good to have know how guy like Santa great teacher.
Those brass synchro rings could be cracked. You cant always tell by looking at them without taking them out. They could be expanding and the sleeve wont ride over them.I used to grind every other tooth of them.It makes it easier to shift. But it could jump in gear if your towing the car.
chevy offered 2 size's some small blocks like the 1969 z28 302 and some others used a 11' clutch the reg cars used a 10.5" clutch all big blocks used 11' and some big trucks 13"
You have to examine the Syncro's and the gears themselves. if they are worn and rounded (IE the little pointed things on the edges of the gears. I cant see inside well enough to get a good look at them.
All of the parts for your clutch assembly is for a small block. I would have just rebuilt everything that you took off of your car. That way you know it is yours. 😎😎
Hi from uk randy👋👍 good job randy 👌and thanks for support mike disconnecting gears as mustang flashback here😂 Mike starting to move quick jumping behind the camera😂😂 and you been watching jacob too much using his loaf to remove pilot bearings 👌 and that man is so hilariously funny man 😂👍 hope you get everything sorted tho and can't wait to see her all comlete again operating full stealth !👌 thanks for your time and be safe see you soon 👍👋
two diffferent size clutches 10.5 and 11" if I remember correct. and trans M21 and M22 are different sizes.. both should work by changing the trans Yoke on driveshaft. flywheel 2 sizes and starters match..
Never a dull moment in your videos Randy, plus Santa, Monkey Wrench Mike, TK etc are all cool/interesting characters..I’m in the UK so I get home from work to see the walk arounds…they give me a laugh after some shitty days at work 😂
You laugh at muffler bearings and I did also until I went to work for Volvo truck. There actually is what they call a muffler bearing holding the stack.
That trans weighs 70 pounds. A college story. A friend had the same SS 396 with the same trans. To remove it, he'd put the car on jack stands and crawl under. He'd unbolt the trans and let it rest on his stomach. He'd exhale and lower the trans. True story. I watched him do that twice.
Randy a flex plate is a automatic transmission a flywheel is for a standard transmission
Thank you for saying that
😢dŕ.
its cool seeing more people recognize ol puddin, that boy makes some incredible content. great seeing him get some recognition, he deserves alot more subs with how much work and teaching he does.
Puddins The Man!!!!
The stickers are a good buy! I replaced all the stickers on an old Dodge along with paint, etc, and they really made a difference.
Flexplate = automatic. Flywheel = manual
This may help you to under stand,,

LOVE IT! 🤩 🤩 I was waiting for these videos, thank you Randy! That’s definitely a car to hold on to, it’ll only increase in value

Good luck with that Holley injection system, I had nothing but trouble with mine.
Went back to original carb. System.
Great work Randy. Awesome to hear you give a shoutout to Puddin' and JR Go.. I watch both their channels and of course Santa's Workshop, Monkey Wrench Mike, LunarOutlaw'sGarage as well as many others.. Keep it up guys!!
Nice to see you and Mike working together and actually working on a car good video
Randy it’s called a fly wheel flex plate or for automatic transmission flywheels are for standard transmission
Back in the day we would lay in the driveway and pull these transmissions out on hour chest with out a jack
Thanks for this video Randy really like the chevelle! Are you gonna keep the old transmission and have it rebuilt? Once you and Mike finish this muscle car she’s gonna be a beast!
always great to see work being done .. cant wait to see the new toys coming to the channel looking forward to it .
Geezum I'm got to got start watching backwards on new to old vids
GET your flywheel resurfaced, get a good 11" clutch and pp, and throw out bearing, your old trans needs torque lock sliders, that will cure your popping out of gear problem
She has the SLCM self lubricating chassis mod installation and it’s working well.
Those Muncie 4 speeds are pretty easy to work on you don't really need special tools get new syncros the brass rings
New bearings get a manual easy to fix

Should of just had your original rebuilt. Less headache and you know it fits and works.
Change the synchronizers and the shift forks, and you'll be back in business. I've rebuilt several M-20s, M-21s, and M-22s over the years. Parts are available.
As you mentioned, Randy is making a big deal out of nothing!! A new bell housing? M20 or M21, easy rebuild! Send most of that crap back!
That brass bushing is called pilot bushing, it's factory stock. Have you got any automotive dictionaries? That have pictures with names.
Hello Randy. The Chevrolet Chevelle SS is starting to come together with the help of Mike aka Santa's Workshop.
Should have adjuster shift rods first to make sure it was adjuster right.
Thanks! Been a follower since you first bought the Pontiac Aztec. Hope you keep up the great work.
Those brass synchro rings could be cracked. You cant always tell by looking at them without taking them out. They could be expanding and the sleeve wont ride over them.I used to grind every other tooth of them.It makes it easier to shift. But it could jump in gear if your towing the car.
You have 2 bring Santa back, for Christmas
chevy offered 2 size's some small blocks like the 1969 z28 302 and some others used a 11' clutch the reg cars used a 10.5" clutch all big blocks used 11' and some big trucks 13"
Randy- great video content. Enjoy watching you and Mike work together on projects.
Looking forward to the next video.
You watch Puddin's Fab Shop, He's such a great and funny Creator. I hope the next one is right.
Can't wait to see Power Tour...
Your synchronizer Rings will cause it to jump out of gear if you replace the brass synchronizers rings that should solve your issue
bread does work to get the pilot bearing out
You have to examine the Syncro's and the gears themselves. if they are worn and rounded (IE the little pointed things on the edges of the gears. I cant see inside well enough to get a good look at them.
Thank you for sharing Santa's link on youtube; I started following his channel today. That old 69 Chevelle is amazing. Keep up the great work.
Thank you Rabih!!!
Good job randy Dylan Michael is a good help to you but I'm already subscribed Santa's workshop
Does the starter bolt to the block or the bell housing? That would be a game changer but by now you've figured it out.
Hey I think u should take the Chevelle to Barrett-Jackson or mecums when you get ready to sell it . Be good content for the channel. Thanks.
Good Video Randy & Michael Very Entertaining With Michael Helping Can't wait for the next video your new tools are a Real Big Help
It is for a factory gm replacement for Chevy not a munsy 4 speed it is for a 3 speed transmission
Sending love support and respect from Boston 💖 👏
It would be awesome to see Puddins Fab Shops slammed Datsun Box Truck on the PowerTour! Load it up with murch to sell on the way 💰 💰 💰
The curse on every job. Someone said, This won't take any longer than an hour to do. Another interesting video. Thank you.
All of the parts for your clutch assembly is for a small block. I would have just rebuilt everything that you took off of your car. That way you know it is yours. 😎😎
I use to always wonder why they called it a bearing when they look more like a bushing. But I think some are actual bearings.
What he has is a bushing. A pilot bearing is a bearing.
I love that car always exiting to c it on the videos
Love Santa's red Corvette 😂
I hope 🤞 everything is going well with putting your transmission back together and running right. Okay. Take it easy and have a great day too. Okay.
It just takes a bushing
Good luck 😀
Mike seems like a nice guy
Yess, this is what we have been waiting for!!!Great job Randy, and mike ..working on rebuilding the SS
..great video!!!!
I really like the bigger repairs! not just buy a car, clean it and sell it again...
randy did you check mecum to see about changing the car with the original apprasial because of the status of it since the car is registerewd

Your memory is correct,
Never a dull moment in your videos Randy, plus Santa, Monkey Wrench Mike, TK etc are all cool/interesting characters..I’m in the UK so I get home from work to see the walk arounds…they give me a laugh after some shitty days at work 😂
Check the front bearing on the input shaft. Bet the pilot bushing is shot .
I still say your shifter was out of alignment. That’s what was wrong with mine
automatics have flex plates that is a flywheel i would just fix the four speed from the car
Good one! 😎👍😎
W vid randy u da copart goat
I am looking forward to seeing you rip up the roads in that bad machine
They sent you the parts for a small block transmission parts
Its, a flywheel
Flexplate is for automatic
Bread does work. I did it
The Ford Focus st in the background with that Red paint OMG I luv it 😍🤤
Santa👍
get your gear box fixed get you presser plat fixed and you cluch fixed
Numbers matching go for big $$$$$
Love the videos Randy can't wait to see the next one 🕜😂🕜😂
Thanks!
Santa is a pro, 🙂❤️✌️
Use a bearing, not a bushing
Liked vid, can't you exchange these parts for the right size ones? Just wondering
Randy, the 4K picture makes it look like I'm right there with you 👍
You still have the packaging take the parts back and get your money back.
I think what you got was for a small block chevy.
You laugh at muffler bearings and I did also until I went to work for Volvo truck. There actually is what they call a muffler bearing holding the stack.
Hey Randy maybe you should ask Kevin Hart lmao
Where did the decals come from?
Good content Randy fun to see you working on your cars!
Great video Randy this one of the most exiting builds on the channel looking forward to the next one !
The original flywheel, clutch disc and pressure plate area 11inch set up same as I run in my 55Nomad 427/M22 .
Is it bad I just said hello back to Mike at the start?
Fly wheel not flex plate fly wheel for manual and flex plate for automatic.
That’s the man’s way…. Quick & easy !
Be sure you let us know witch 4 speed was in the car Randy
Love the Chevelle, it pops with the red ♥️
Good video Randy
Randy: you bought this car “ number matching “ first thing you do….buy a non matching transmission ! ???????????
