    Wow! So Kawi included an ignition switch supply and a relay mount already on the bike like that? That's a really cool thing to add in. Saves a lot of wire tapping and splicing for sure. That is a notable feature in of itself.

    Hey whatever works. Right. Looks fine to me and the damper color matches the bike. 👍

    I used the Moto-Pumps Garmin-XT security mount, which locks the GPS in place. The accessory bar is 14mm, for those who were wondering.
    I spliced into the source power to the back-side of the 12V outlet. I know those plug-in USB ports like to wiggle out and are made with the crappiest components China can offer. I'll stick with the Garmin 12v converter, which bust the voltage down to 5.3Vdc. I likely won't ever use this socket.

    Lol, swanky to the last drop. You prove it cost nothing to think outside the box. ( I watch a few channels where they would hire an engineer to redesign that mount) but then again they would have a 2500$ GPS and a 500$ mount.
    BTW, Isn’t there a place on the left for a 12v usb on the Klr Adventure? Might be an idea to wire one over there as well would be a help for this idea. Just think how chill your Garmin will be - stress free if the cube does it’s work!

    I tried a similar setup on my 2022 KLR650 Adventure and it rattled the GPS to death in 75 miles. Replaced with Zumo 396 on sale for $199 using ram mount and bar adapter without issue 710 miles so far without issue. The Nuvi models cannot handle the vibration I guess.

    I have a gen 2 Klr that I mounted a garmin gps to. I found that the garmin doesn't like using the 5volt USB charger like that. Fine at idle but when you rev the engine, I'm guessing the voltage is fluctuating, the gps shuts off or the screen goes fuzzy, similar to what I saw in a previous video of yours.
    If you use it with the garmin 12v plug it works fine. I don't know what they have built into their 12v plug that makes it work differently.

    • @SwankyCatProductions

      Huh that's odd, I've ran a few this way and never ran into anything other than vibration issues?

      Maybe the newer alt/generator is better regulated/has more consistent output.

    • @likkitongue
      @likkitongue 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@natearchuleta2003 I had the garmin cable and a 14 gage auxiliary wire running from battery to the front under the tank. Perhaps it was getting interference somewhere.
      I have since rewired it, with just the aux cable going to the front to usb outlet and then plugged garmin into that. Works great now.

    So what you got to do is plug that male end, all the way into the female end...and all the way out the other side...

  • @Bryanvcarbino

    Does it matter if I add the USB to the left or right side? Use the wires on the left vs the right. Does usb have to be on left side and use those wires and 12v outlet be on the right and sue the wires in the right. Does it matter what side the go on. Different wire or fuse size?

    What security features do you have on the GPS and/or mount to prevent theft?

    Quick question, I just checked out your video on the Garmin nuvi 40lm and I plan on picking up one. I was curious to know, does it require you to pay an monthly/yearly fees? I’ve read that som newer ones don’t, but I was curious about this one specifically.

    • @SwankyCatProductions
      @SwankyCatProductions  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, the LM actually signifies life time maps! Just make sure you get it some sort of vibration dampener.

      @@SwankyCatProductions that's the important thing.
      They're setting the trails up here. I'm not sure yet what the plan is for opening. For Vilas, the snowmobile alliance meets on the 15th. They'll decide the opening date then. Only 3 or 4 clubs are waiting to have their areas inspected. It's very possible the season could start very soon if we don't get a big melt.

    I been using my phone as gps, but now am using my phone as the audio recorder, so I am thinking of getting a garmin gps that I could load custom routes into it, I already own an older car garmin gps, but it doesn’t allow custom routes I don’t think. Let me know which model I could look for on eBay that would work well on the KLR.

    • @SwankyCatProductions
      @SwankyCatProductions  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure how you go about creating routes on your own, but I used a trail map SD card from VVmapping here in WI that has maps for Minnesota and Michigan, and that worked in a 10 year old Garmin. Now I've got a 40LM 50LM & 60LM that I run on a few bikes and a snowmobile haha.
