Agreed. There was a time, embarassingly too recently, when I thought electronic music started in 1990 and everything electronic before that was disco, and that punk music was just harsh guitars and screaming. Discovered BoC through rediscovering trip hop and the sub genre (?) of hauntology.
This mix was released as we found out my dad was dying quickly from pancreatic cancer so now whenever I listen to it, I just think of him and cry. I wish I showed him this mix, he would've liked it.
I'm truly sorry for your loss. But I'm glad you have BoC to help make it through these hard times. I experienced a lot of loss this past year as well and at times it feels like the music I listened to then is all I have left from those experiences

Boards of Canada are geniuses honestly. I'm not even disappointed it's not new stuff, they have given me so so much to listen to that I never new existed and now love.
44:13 I've heard that song in some movie. I'm not sure but it could be a polish movie from 60's. It sounds like Komeda quintet. Edit: it's soundtrack from Claude Lelouch movie "Un homme et une femme" (1966).
@@aleksandrsuperczynski7093 late-ass reply but just wanted to say I didn't mean to complain; this broadcast was one the highlights of my life. Reminded me a lot of listening to Berkley College radio
God man, that was such a good span of couple days. At work and school, I listened to NTS with earbuds. At home, I listen to NTS on my stereo and proper headphones. Bouncing back and forth from the two stations. Death Grips’ contribution was another highlight for me. But the Boards of Canada, like most of us, was the broadcast we all waited for. I got pretty emotional at the end of their NTS Take Over, which I believe this was WARP’s last broadcast of that event. It made me realize how much WARP has impacted my life! I love those guys and gals!
I find I keep coming back to this mix and listening and re reading the comments. Listening to this live will forever stay with me. Sending good vibes to all boc fanatics and music lovers.
The mix was a throwback to their old custom of making weird mixtapes (i.e. "Some Old Tunes"). It was fun to hear some of the influences they've mentioned in interviews (Devo, 4AD bands, shoegazer rock, etc.).
Coming back to it a year and a half later and wow. I didn't realise how great this was back when I was listening to it live. I was so stuck on the mindset of "is this BOC???" "Someone find the name of that track" that I ultimately failed to enjoy the mix to its fullest. Sad that I didn't record the WXAXRXP chatroom during the mix, it was crazy.
@@TheBEAST205 It's been six years! Anyway I'm thankful we even got this mix in the first place, I just hope they'll give us a full studio project someday. Tommorow's Harvest, while giving me a mixed impression, has still got me wanting more BoC. I love their stuff.
It took the almighty Tool 13 years to come out with a new album just recently and its only been 9 years since the last B.O.C album so who knows... I have high hopes even though they seem to have left a conclusion with Tomorrow's Harvest there's always reunions
@The Reverend Jim Jones I think if any of that gets released itll be a compilation of some sort, I think they want their main albums to be new, fresh material
11:50 does somebody have the origin of this sample? It was a late 70's scifi album ive seen it before and am desperate to find it again because its a piece they used on Hooper Bay. thank you
What a mind bending set! It took me by surprise. I was sceptic at first, but by the end of the set I just wanted to keep on listening. These guys are on another level.
Man, what a memorable broadcast. I was invited to a private chat group with 50 people around the globe. Everyone was tuned in and expressing their anticipation for each track!
Thanks for capturing this! I had social obligations and wasn't able to listen live. Man that first Jasper Van't Hof piece really announced the set beautifully. 1976 incarnate!
The Tomorrowland Stage at Disneyland Anaheim Cali! It pops up out of the ground as the band plays. My girlfriend and I danced to Bachmann Turner Overdrive there one night. Too bad they don't serve Cherry Mists anymore but still great hamburgers!
Been listening to this tape all season. I love when it creeps on autoplay and I just have to absorb it all, which is what just happened about to fire this joint up and go to spaceland
Thank you for posting. This has been quite an enjoyable listening experience. I have been really inspired by this mix. Bringing forth songs of before, but in many ways "new". Also, hearing the fingerprints of the duo adds another element that creates the experience! Exciting 2 hours. Thank you again for posting
1:40:47 Tarantula - Colourbox I was super excited about the mix the whole time, but when this song came in i literally broke, you guys have a super nice taste!
It also reminds me of the melancholic, sad tones of Majora's Mask. It has the same sadness as the song you can hear just below the clock tower, you know... in the waterways.
As a gamer, the very first opening part of this mix reminds me of the scene in Zelda a Link to the Past, whereby LInk must navigate to (and through) the dungeons to save his uncle. Great Mix, btw.

56:29 This is where Garden Botanum by These Trails. cuts out to a man speaking slowed down: "Here in the wind tunnel[tower[towel][howl]] the fearsomeful forces [h]and by proxy and one day you[we?] shall know" then JAZZ MUSIC PLAYS. This could be considered a BOC track in itself. Then we cut back to Garden Botanum. ...so WHAT SHALL WE KNOW ONE DAY? Any good theories/clues for a future release? Warp said there would be new surprises throughout the year.
Yes! I love that part. He pops up saying the same line at a slightly different speed before These Trails also. Someone elsewhere on the internet posted this link on a post like yours. I had a quick scan through, but couldn't find the line in the video (it's 30 minutes long!) So it could be a red herring. vimeo.com/135685756
Wow this is great. Following BoC and their music is as close as I will ever get to the comfort that others would find in things like religion. Love hearing the influences. You know the Sandison lads have a fucking amazing record collection. We need to hear more please!! Maybe an album influenced by abandoned mall music to give us the nostalgia we crave!
A few striking things I still take away from all of BoC's influences and favorites past and present: Hearing The Free Life from Alan Parker, part of the iconic Themes/KPM Music Library and DEVO. I didn't know Shrivel-Up at the time so I thought it was a song from an obscure VHS. When that dissonant synth part came in my jaw dropped at how much BoC uses that sound/technique. The Spud Boys most famous for "Whip It" had an impact on Boards of Canada! Sea Cathedral was the perfect ending and now we know where Farewell Fire came from.

This Tape made me think of mixing music in a different way. Especially at 44:19. This BOC mix is like Minute Maid. It's beautiful, a very special taste, not too tart not too sweet, ohhhh it's just right. 100% Pure. No preservatives or additives. It's Boards of Canada, there's no doubt about it.
I was just listening to BoC's Warp10 live set and I remembered the 30th anniversary was this year too. What an awesome mix, I needed a new one to listen to after listening to their old tapes and such.
I got 300 hot, screaming kids waiting to see Leo the Lizard.

1:11:00 i didn't expect to hear my music here, gratefully appreciated!
We appreciate it too - this was a great way of getting to hear new stuff! Awesome!
Well deserved! Epic dark groove..
I was wondering why that track sounded familiar. Congrats.
This is like the highest honor

This mix was released as we found out my dad was dying quickly from pancreatic cancer so now whenever I listen to it, I just think of him and cry. I wish I showed him this mix, he would've liked it.
I'm truly sorry for your loss. But I'm glad you have BoC to help make it through these hard times. I experienced a lot of loss this past year as well and at times it feels like the music I listened to then is all I have left from those experiences

omg so happy - so awesome to see 'these trails' listed.
44:13 I've heard that song in some movie. I'm not sure but it could be a polish movie from 60's. It sounds like Komeda quintet. Edit: it's soundtrack from Claude Lelouch movie "Un homme et une femme" (1966).
btw thx for this list. Great work my friend ;)

@@olsonbryce777 Hey, at least you still share a name with a BoC song
The ambient track that plays at 57:06 - 59:20 hit me like a train. How can they just drop the best ambient track of the year nonchalantly like that.

You too my friend
Hearing this live was the best 2 hours I've had in a long time. I was ecstatic.
same. best thing in my life for ages. The level of obsession I have for boards is beyond the ordinary,
new material is a gift.
The mix was a throwback to their old custom of making weird mixtapes (i.e. "Some Old Tunes"). It was fun to hear some of the influences they've mentioned in interviews (Devo, 4AD bands, shoegazer rock, etc.).
konami1979 my thoughts exactly: it was like their old mixtapes with the radio scans, old ads, weird remixes, original material.
Recognized 70's Disneyland as soon as the image appeared.
Oh MAN. Shrivel Up people! Devo! That is one freaky track, love it.
i stage dived my living room when this track played in this mix.
We need a new BOC album already man

@@TheBEAST205 It's been six years! Anyway I'm thankful we even got this mix in the first place, I just hope they'll give us a full studio project someday. Tommorow's Harvest, while giving me a mixed impression, has still got me wanting more BoC. I love their stuff.
It took the almighty Tool 13 years to come out with a new album just recently and its only been 9 years since the last B.O.C album so who knows... I have high hopes even though they seem to have left a conclusion with Tomorrow's Harvest there's always reunions
the time gap between headphase and harvest was 8 years, so it's no surprise it'll be a while
@The Reverend Jim Jones I think if any of that gets released itll be a compilation of some sort, I think they want their main albums to be new, fresh material
Before the transmission began, I thought about the person who would work to share it. So... Thanks a lot man.

1:29:30 could be Zelda's Great Fairy's Fountain theme. Not exactly but gives me very similar vibes.
I think you're getting Great Fairy's Fountain theme mixed with Zora's Domain theme. Either way, it does sounds very Zelda-ish!
Reminds me of Twin Peaks. Wish I knew the artist.
It also reminds me of the melancholic, sad tones of Majora's Mask. It has the same sadness as the song you can hear just below the clock tower, you know... in the waterways.
Excellent. Thanks for upload. Wonderful 2 hours. Loved it.
That's exactly how I expected BOC to look when playing live.
Musical pioneers. They are like the stain that remains on the back of antique after all this time.
This tape sounds like it came from a sattelite in the middle of space, meanwhile getting interrupted with music occasionally.
As a gamer, the very first opening part of this mix reminds me of the scene in Zelda a Link to the Past, whereby LInk must navigate to (and through) the dungeons to save his uncle. Great Mix, btw.

This could be considered a BOC track in itself. Then we cut back to Garden Botanum.

I hear this - 'Here in the wind tunnel the fearful forces plot their pattern by proxy - and one day we shall know’ interesting line indeed!

This set list took 6 minutes to blow me away..
Very brilliant upload. Thanks!
anyone able to find out what is playing at 1:55:00 checked all the comments and couldnt find it
No one knows yet.
Take me back to one year ago when it felt a little like Christmas morning and less like post-apocalypse.
This is by far one of my favorite albums this year. Retro sounds I remeber.

Minute Maid?.. hmm I question your taste in juice
The Set that keeps on giving.
still waiting for the 5th track to be found, its my favorite one
1:31:15 sounds a little like A Reminiscent Drive - Life Is Beautiful
lysergic oddments and combinations of plaid not seen since nixon. good to see that victrola EP in here, an absolute gem, that.
59:54 I love this
This mix is absolutely fantastic!
Anyone have an idea what 36:24 is? Feels like it's from the soundtrack to a 70s film.
Ask the Boards of Canada Subreddit
Oh Severed Heads !!!
One thing more to love BoC
This is amazing. Great selection. Inspired stuff.
Makes me 1000 times more creative. great set!
I was just listening to BoC's Warp10 live set and I remembered the 30th anniversary was this year too. What an awesome mix, I needed a new one to listen to after listening to their old tapes and such.
Thank you for sharing! I couldn't listen live while it happened.
Sweet jeezus. Thanks for posting!
Quite simply the best DJ set I have ever had the pleasure of hearing :-)
This Is not DJ
Is that because there is no beat mixing? 🤦🏻♂️😂😂
I'm hooked on the track which starts at 13:51. The vocal reminds me of Music is math.
