As a Hanzo main (former Top 6 PH, Top 20 Global) I can add a few more things to this video, both for fighting as or against him. I’ll post the against separately.
If you’re playing Hanzo:
- Don’t use your second skill (ult form) immediately after you see the enemy. Try to get close and bait the enemy into using their dash, THEN use your second and your retri if there are no objectives yet or if you are trading. Most enemies even in high elo will panic and sometimes use their battle spell. This increases your advantage drastically against MM players.
- Use your ulti as often as you can, especially if there are no monsters or minion waves to fill your meter. Measure your CD and observe if a clash will happen soon after the cooldown. This requires experience, but if you master your ult timing, you will never have to worry about having a depleted meter when clashing. This will also help you increase your range in the late game, making it so much harder for enemies to kill you without going out of position.
- ALWAYS COUNT THE ENEMIES ON THE MAP BEFORE PARTICIPATING IN A CLASH. A common mistake that noob Hanzo players make is that they just use their ult whenever they see 3 enemies. You never know where the other two are. If they are missing, opt out or reposition to where you think you will be safe, then use your ulti.
- USE YOUR ULTI FROM A BUSH IF POSSIBLE. The bush hides your body long enough for you to see an ambusher dash to it.
- When pursuing an enemy, back up slightly before using your second skill. This is especially useful against MM players, as some of them likely don’t have Wanwan config (i.e, they will auto-lock and move forward to shoot you, compromising their positioning)
- Never first pick Hanzo unless you intend to act as bait. He is super easy to counter with heroes who have more than two dashes like Chou.
- When using your ulti, check the bushes on the path to where the clash is. If you’re at the lord spot and there is a clash near the enemy red buff, walk up to the bush at the middle. Your ambushers will often be squishy, so dispatch them if they are in the way.
- This somewhat requires good micro, but if there is a minion wave near the clash, approach your enemies from a direction that will make them fall back to said minion wave. This will help extend your ulti’s duration. Alternatively, if the minion wave is about to die, go near the minions while headed towards the clash. Paying attention to these little details will help with your staying power in clashes and allow you to make more moves.
- Replace your Magic Boots with speed boots in the late game. I see most Hanzo players keep their Magic Boots even when they have like less than 10 sec CD already and it really annoys me because it means more travel time from point A to point B. More travel time = waste of meter. Waste of meter = inefficient gameplay.
- In the intro, you saw Betosky’s body at the right side of the top tower, near the bush @ the crab area. Don’t position yourself like that if you don’t have enough reflexes. Beto can do it because he’s a prodigy with insane reflexes, but if you’re still learning Hanzo and you’re in the same situation, position yourself to the top tower’s left side (far from the crab area bush). This will give you more time to use your ulti’s second button because they will need to move out and be visible in your minimap for a few more seconds.

Cool tips, really informative. I know about the rapid boot switch. But do you think the step back works in higher elo's? Usually players are way smarter to fall for a simple fake out, i play mid and its an easy way to secure skillshots.
Also, how do you play when you just get non-stop pressured by their enemy mid and roam? Do you recommend the jungle emblem with extra slow, or are there better options?
Extra question, in the late game where you get out dpsed by marksmen, do you still delay using your 2nd in ult form?
Also wdym by, use your ulti as often? Do you mean you use and then immediately return just for that extra demon blood

In my case, selena was the one who taught me map awareness but ngl, i lost almost half of my map awareness when i stopped playing her (i completely abandoned her).

It may sound funny, but last season I played hanzo 20 games with tank build.
I won all of them. I was trolling at the first game when one of my teammates picked Layla in mythical glory lobby.
But I was amazed, they couldn't kill me, all their ambushes failed. And I kept ulting and harassing them very safely.
Try if you want to troll and still want to win it works.

@@Giggle-Archie I wouldn't say luo yi is the best mage since kagura exists. When it comes to versatility alone, kagura is miles better than her. Great damage, nice mobility (and it's not even an ultimate skill), free purify, A little bit of CC, A shield and free vision from her umbrella. Now, I'm not saying that luo yi is bad, it's just that in solo rank, kagura is more versatile compare to her.

Tip: If you don't have a very good map awareness and can't keep an eye on your body when playing Hanzo, just press the "Transfer body to clone" button an instant you see the edge of the screen flash red or when the string on you to your body turns red.
It means that your body is being attacked and knowing how squishy Hanzo is, you need to react fast. (You have at most 2s to react).
Additional - The string gets more red the lower your main body's hp is.
any tips for his energy being depleting real quick and soul 1st skill?
@@yoursenpai7764 Hanzo's ult has only 10s cooldown in the lategame, you can use his ult then immediately cancel it to get 30% of his max energy. As for the earlygame - midgame, you can place his 2nd skill on minion waves as you rotate.
For his soul form's 1st skill, there really no way to activate it faster, but there are a few things you could do to get as much stacks as possible from his soul's 2nd skill. If the enemy moves fast, use slow retri as soon as you cast his soul's 2nd skill to make them stay in rangr of his rangr as long as possible. If the enemy has a dash, you can chase them around and only use his soul's 2nd skill after they have used their dash (people get pretty nervous when they see Hanzo and use their dash when you chase them long enough).
I don't really recommend playing Hanzo when the enemy has multiple heroes with a dash because you have to either wait for your teammates to force their dash or you will fail every gank because they will just simply dash away.
You gotta be the only TH-camr that isn't boring to watch play Harley/Hanzo

I remember going against a hanzo and literally no one on my team could handle him. Luckily I played gloo and enemy team didn’t want to go near me so I had easy path to Hanzo body. Hanzo is one of the more annoying heroes especially if no one picks a good hero against him.
Whenever i play hanzo, i always ban heroes that can easily hunt me down like karina, natalia, harley (i don't ban harley though), etc.
Hanzo is Harley's favorite snack.
I have a question though. If Gloo sticks to Hanzo's pnemona then it is dismissed early, does Gloo follow to real Hanzo's body, or just end the ult there?

Tip: dodge his ghostly slashes then try to kill his spirit if you are far from the main body/guarded by his allies. Dont let the spirit chase all of you freely, kill it.
If you saw hanzo spirit form coming after you from afar, do your best to run away so that he will be forced to cancel ult or bait him till he run out of blood.
Pay attention to the map where he comes from, if you see your allies being chased, do your best to kill the main body while he is distracted.
Current hanzo can swap to his ghost form now, so do your best to kill/scare him away.
Hanzo spirit can only phase through walls, enhance attk speed and movement speed and deadly 1st skill and 2nd skill so keep in mind that you can still inflict stuns or crowd control skills to the spirit forme. He also only inflicts physical attack so MM can counter it with wind of nature. Also dont waste time and get out of hanzo's enhanced 2nd skill as it keeps on going as long as the 2nd skill still hits something.
Best if you guard your squishy allies from him. Hanzo can literally bypass frontliners with no effort..
If you are against all odds vs hanzo, best thing to do is give all the gold to your late game hero ally and hope for late game epic comeback by defending both base and your late game hero ally.
A core hanzo always has no means of escaping aside from his ult. If you manage to counter his ult, he is pretty much dead if you go after his main body.
his ult is really easy to kill as long as you dont let him get stacks he can easily close the gap and it also deals a lot of damage

As a Thamuz main I can confirm that it is very tempting to jump into a fight when outnumbered. Basically my plan is to sustain as much as I can while spamming the backup button. If my teammates help then we can wipe out the enemies or all the enemies that were in that fight. Most of the time the backup spamming works and my team helps me. Sometimes it doesn't and I die but atleast I get 1 kill which is still bad because enemies get more gold from assists.

I disagree, you completely missed the point of playing hanzo. He's not the typical "brave assassins" in the frontline. You're the puppet master and his ghost form is the puppet, that's the point of playing hanzo, you're not the one getting attacked.

No, the first thing is a plus for you. Saber is pretty weak against Hanzo. But Hanzo does not tank his ult.
What are you even ganking? Once your ult is gone, you have no source of mobility aside from something that slows your enemy down, but unlike walking, it does not slow down someone *dashing* towards you. You will end up with a full HP which then completely gets annihilated by a follower hero. When an opposing team has a Hanzo, your first thought isn't "to attack Hanzo's ghost".
Any hero can steal turtle lord even in a 1v5 situation. There isn't even a need for your health to be completely full. Just get the turtle and you're done as long as you're not dead. Hanzo can't do that because his early game farming is shitty doodoo, you have to take that into account.
And again, Hanzo can obviously uh "rotate to mid in under 0.2s after ganking the sidelanes" but after that, he has no rotation tools left. Get ganked or invaded by an aggressor and you will not be welcomed cuz of your slow ass.
The twist? Hanzo farms as fast as Layla, but Hanzo, an assassin who benefits 200% of the Retri boots bonus, is just as fast as Layla, who only gets 100% of the Retri boots bonus. Which tells me that Hanzo probably is Layla 2.0.
Now do you see any famous Hanzo players still holding up in solo?
