I showed this video to my dad and he sent it to his employees and told them this is how he wants to run his business. One lady brought an etchy-sketch the next day. Amanda Palmer, saving the world one office at a time.
"That is why I promised John that I will not feel guilty." Anyone else gets a bit teary eyed when they hear that part? You're laughing through most of the song and all of the sudden you get a sucker punch to the heart ...and it's AWESOME!
At first I wasn't sure what to make of this song to be honest, then the verse about Borden and kids with handguns hit me and I felt like I understood everything she was trying to say from then on. As catchy and fun as this is, there is definitely something deep in it too. Love it:D
I just discovered this song and love it. It is so much more substantive than the many “play the uke and smile and have fun” songs. I cant play this with my older song circles....yet, , but my friends will LOvE it. I fantasize that Amanda was asked by the schools to sing a song to motivate kids to enter a uke program. hahaha
I just can't stop listening to all Amanda's song's its like she has some strange magical aura that draws me into listen to more (totally, does not sound odd at all lol)
Amanda, we bought a ukelele for my 3 year old daughter Zira. She calls it her 'ukelady.' It looks like the one you're holding in the picture. Thank you for the inspiring words in this song.
How did my 23 yr. old daughter have to tell me to you tube you and this tune because she KNEW I’d love it? Jesus Christ! Am I serious THAT outta fuckin touch😂 Just cuz I work a lot and I’m fuckin beat🤪🤪 (46- Welder/Fabricator 20+ now)...I still go to shows quite a bit! 🤷♀️ Least the kiddo knows what I like and excellent call on this one! Been checking out all Amanda’s stuff w/ guys at work all day...And...had it on a list about 5 yrs now (I’m a guitar player, not a great one😂) to buy a Ukulele and TONIGHT...I DID finally! So thanks Amanda...for that❤️❤️
Thank you Amanda. I had a really bad day today, and hearing this song just made me smile. Thank you for this, something I know I can look up and grin like a fool. You are my new hero.
It's been a minute since I listened to this, but a friend posted a vid of a UK ukulele orchestra playing the theme from SHAFT and this song came immediately to mind. It brings me such great joy, Amanda. Thank you!
I bought an ukulele like two weeks ago and then i remembered this song, like i have totally forgot that i have it on my phone and now i wanna learn how to play all Amanda's songs
This song singlehandedly made me wanna go out and buy a ukulele. I mean, I've always been curious about playing it but now I NEED one! :D I haven't gotten one yet but I will!
Love it. Just spent a very enjoyable and funny evening with Amanda at Rocky Bay on Waiheke Island. I haven't laugher so much in ages. Very irreverent and often not politically correct but how refreshing.
Neil Gaiman: intelligent, talented, successful, creative, handsome, and he got to go to bed with Amanda Palmer. Regularly. Just one more reason to hate him.
Idk but this shit made me cry. This song was so important to me when I was a teen. If only Amanda had spent an hour teaching Neil the ukulele, maybe he would have been happy, maybe he wouldn’t have assaulted all those women.
Can anyone give me any tips on tuning a soprano ukulele to my own voice? Tuned correctly to standard soprano tuning I can't sing to this. (NOT that I'm claiming any ability to sing at all mind you but no one but my dogs are ever going to hear me and they don't mind lol!) I was just wondering if anyone could point me somewhere that might explain. And yes, I picked up a uke because this song made me happy. I swear Amanda has probably been responsible for singlehandedly causing hundreds of ukulele sales since she made this silly song lol!
You just need to learn it in a different key that matches your voice range. Its possible to learn any song in a different key than the original but some chords might be more difficult to play. There are chord charts that show you how to do that.
Hey Amanda, I can't find the amazing video of you singing this at the Sydney Opera House on your TH-cam channel. I could only find it here. th-cam.com/video/XlwV0IByrng/w-d-xo.htmlsi=I77MkhUQXVAukluo All the likes and views are not coming to you.

THIS SONG IS SO LIBERATING
YES!!!

This is hands down the funniest ukulele song ever! And exactly how ukulele players feel about playing their ukuleles. 💕😄💕

She has the same effect on me.
I know why, but I'm not telling. You're going to have to ask Louise Huebner yourself.

This is quite possibly the most incredible song i have ever heard. Thank you.
i love amanda palmer's song writing oh my god...
Because of this song, I bought an ukulele last month for an early Xmas gift. I still very badly but I have fun playing it! Thank you Amanda! :D
Best. Song. Ever! I'm buying a ukulele and I'm gonna play it badly!
This song is full of so much wisdom but I'd like to isolate the line Stop Pretending Art Is Hard.
Yes.
I'm so grateful you put lyrics for your songs

This is wonderful! I started singing along halfway through! Thank you for making this a way better day that the way it started.
I bought an ukulele like two weeks ago and then i remembered this song, like i have totally forgot that i have it on my phone and now i wanna learn how to play all Amanda's songs
Absolutely Love it!!!
This song makes me happy, this pleases me.
Damn. She really knows what ukuleles are all about.
I've listened to so many of Amanda's songs, and this is my favourite song, in a tie between astronaut and Leeds united
The best thing is, this is the first song I learnd on the ukulele an it took me literally about an hour.
This song inspired me to go out and get a ukulele of my own. My first instrument and I LOVE IT!!
"It is painfully simple"!!!1
I went to go buy one and they had already doubled in price.
This song honestly changed my life i stg
theres's no word to describe what it makes you feel *-*

Awesome! Just bloody awesome! Nuff said :-)
I LOVE THIS SONG!!
I purchased an ukulele because of this song
Yes ❤
Jajajaja wonderful Amanda! Just great, so fun, so.... Ukulele :-)
I'm learning how to play this now. It will be the first song, I think, that I will be able to play and sing along to at the same time.
simply amazing. Thank you for your art, Amanda! That is mindblowing, eyeopening, heartmoving and a true treasure for me.
I adore this song. Amanda, you're shamelessly doing it again!
I just bought my first ukulele!!
This song inspired me to buy a ukelele and im gonna go practice in the park at night. Thanks, Amanda!
“bring your etch-a-sketch to work“ isn't as much of a flex for me, i work in a preschool.
I always try so hard to cover this song. But I can't get through it without laughing and eventually choking. Ahaha.
Yeah, I'd be bawling all over the stage otherwise I'd cover the hell out of this.
I want a ukulele so bad now...
This song singlehandedly made me wanna go out and buy a ukulele. I mean, I've always been curious about playing it but now I NEED one! :D I haven't gotten one yet but I will!

This song never fails to make me laugh :D
I love this. I laughed to the point of crying.
how can gaimen fans wonder why he loves her??? my god...i FUCKING adore her
My sentiments exactly. :)
She has been my spirit best friend since 2002. I'm obsessed with her lol
Neil Gaiman: intelligent, talented, successful, creative, handsome, and he got to go to bed with Amanda Palmer. Regularly.
Just one more reason to hate him.
Well that was a fucking journey if I ever heard one
Actually considering singing this for an assignment. Fuck music criteria! You were fabulous at BIGSOUND
It's only 20 seconds shorter than Bohemian Rhapsody but feels like a 2-minute song.
Well-said Amanda! And... Memento mori.
(I use that phrase too much it should be my motto. And I'm an optimist.)
2024. We need ukes now more than ever before.
so glad I didn’t skip this song. Exactly what I needed to hear after finding out one of my classmates has terminal cancer
Update: he died last night. our math exam is moved to next week
Just.Fucking.Brilliant!
This was actually the first song I played on ukulele.😅
Holy F*ck....
Amanda "Anarchy Goddess" Palmer:
You inspired me to persevere learning the uke although my damaged left hand failed me.
Thank you.
jesus fucking christ this is good
Fuck I love her!!!!
Idk but this shit made me cry. This song was so important to me when I was a teen. If only Amanda had spent an hour teaching Neil the ukulele, maybe he would have been happy, maybe he wouldn’t have assaulted all those women.
I love this song, when I play it for my kids (because I will) I wonder what I am going to say when they ask who Rebecca Black is...??
This song was written quite a while ago.
My name is Amanda and I like to read the comments and pretend I am Amanda Palmer and these are all directed at me. No shame.
this was uploaded today though... how could a lady bring an etchy-sketch to work the next day if it's still the same day?
no, she references the video throughout her story. if she meant the song, itself, she would've said it.
The video of this song with her at the Sydney Opera House is gone?
You can still find it on Google video :)
Come for the math, stay for the Pump Up the Volume reference.
It's been a while since i listened to this wonder of wonders.. Amanda Palmer - Ukulele Anthem !
th-cam.com/video/LX07zUo2kSQ/w-d-xo.html
Rarely ever do I hear a song that has me go "Eh, nah." at the start, headbobbing along in the middle and shouting "Fuck." at the end.
What kind of ukulele did she use
i did my homework with a steel fork I converted into a ruling pen with files and a vise...also my trusty leatherman.
I am aware; however, Edith said, and I quote, "I showed this video to my dad." Edith referenced the video, not the song
ah, yknow, arts more like cooking than chemistry. ;)
i want to get a ukelele and learn it. unfortunately, my left arm is paralyzed.
Учим Английский язык вместе с Амандой. =]
I stumbled upon this song while browsing Tumblr.
holy fuck you're so fantastic
"I showed this video to my dad..." - Edith Rosenthal

who sang along to this haha
Now I like ya Amanda, but why if you sing Joan Jet, do the lyrics say n'sync?
You realize this person might not have meant this video literally, yes? It could have been this song but not this specific video.
GREY'S ANATOMY AHAHA
