When I I had my windows replaced the polystyrene balls from my cavity went everywhere! The window guy apologised for making such a mess. I said I’d clear it up in 10 minutes. He didn’t believe me. I pulled out my propane weed burner and he said I was a genius!
That looks wonderful Steve and Alex, ( the bulldozer). Clearing up makes a job and by the way Alex worked no wonder. My arm is still a bt sore but I am managing quite well the nurse that came in told me off as I had done my washing up I was told I had to keep my pot dry and leave it to her I told her to look at my dishes so she did and asked how I managed so with out water in the sink I showed her, that shut her up. In this area Steve Building inspectors don't seem to worry about repairs like yours as long as it is like for like and their instructions are met obviously not for new work where they are most particular an although they never bothered me a lot of the other builders moaned about their visits one job was stopped and a lot of work had to be done to fix it servs them right. Still a great job boys stay safe and mind those legs. Best regards Ken
has alex tried turning the bricks on their side and removing the gobbo with the disc cutter? much quicker and less chance of breakage👍nice upload as always guys.
Never mind all that talk … lintels do sag with 5 or more courses over them seen it too many times and have to prop them in the middle to carry on ask any worth while bricklayer they’ll say the same.
@@SteveAndAlexBuild yes because they know they will bend or sag especially L shaped lintels on timber framed buildings done lots of this work and there as flimsy as hell … if something needs propping does that tell you something like it’s prone to collapse and that’s definitely down to not being thick enough when I started out in the early 80s they were twice as heavy therefore twice as thick how British standards have changed for the worse! So many things in the building industry have declined especially materials
Never get my head around why lintels are so thin and flimsy what are they about 3mm you’ve only got to put a soldier course over and they’re buckling should be 6mm minimum to be British standard… maybe I’m wrong but are they just skimping on steel because they sag with weight aswell by the way good job 👍
@johngarthwaite4051 Metal lintels are manufactured to B.S or European standard. They are designed to work structurally according to the span, load and forces to be exerted upon them. The correct lintel, for the correct location will not sag when you put a soldier course on it. Also its worth considering how a cavity wall system has the loads distributed over, and through it, as this will affect lintel sizing. 🧱👍😁
Tricky with a bit of stonework. You did well. Bloody rain is killing this game at the moment.
Not just rain Roger, bad forecasts have done us . 2 days cancelled due to rain and thunder storms which never materialised so 2 days wasted 😒🧱👍🏽
Sat in my car on the rain watching another two brickies work great
That is how i started, now we have a channel 😆🧱👍🏽

Common practice to prop every lintel . The lintels even have a label on saying this 👌🏼🧱👍🏼

No idea 🤷🏼♂️ 🧱
@@SteveAndAlexBuild Hmm, will the new one not then rust too if the problem is possibly still there?
@shadow_bandit403 no it’s zinc plated
i had to cut out four concrete lintels today and they were next to each all to make a door opening after.today i hate lintel 😅
