Finally caught up on all episodes and I’m very proud how far the projects has come, I will be locked in watching this project. Great jobs guys the details don’t go unnoticed 🙏🏽🙏🏽
If chemical cleaning is not possible, I wonder if it is possible to rent an industrial ultrasonic cleaning unit and decontaminate the entire car in a distilled water bath. 9 meter vessels currently exist for industrial and automotive use, though I cannot speak about how affordable such an avenue would be.
Ultrasonic might loosen the dirt and grime, but you still need more flow/swirling to get those contaminants out of the small crevices that we can't access with the pressure washer or other tools. We are also trying to minimize the number of spot welds we have to drill ;-)
In reference to Tavarish's P1 project, I was wondering about dry ice cleaning on this. This is an incredibly ambitious project BTW. Amazing how much "further back" you are going compared to the McLaren since many bolts on this cant come off and you are stuck cutting things off. Do a talk on Vin Wiki for this.
@@ryangertz3822to do the whole frame like this with dry ice would be thousands of $$. But a good media blasting is the way to go. But I would start with crushed walnut then move to baking powder.
Hard to believe that this cut up, gutted chemical combination of iron, hydrogen and oxygen will become an NSX again, but I believe in your skills, best of luck! 💪😁
You can get specialized tips for your pressure washer. One that actually has a rotating pattern for better dirt removal. Then there is a tip that has holes on the side so as you insert the rubber hose into the rocker panels the water shoots around the inner surface rather than just straight. Hope this helps
Every time I watch one of these episodes, I picture how sick this is gonna look in the end. Bravo to y’all for undertaking this. Do you think Honda will sponsor the project or at least donate some parts?
What you're going to have to do is drill out spot welds and start taking structural pieces apart. You will never get everything out of those frame rails and be able to protect the inside from future corrosion without doin that. I really hope you do that and don't half ass this car. Look at Kalvin Malli's R32 GTR re-build for example of what you should do.
Baking powder media blasting. It is soft enough not to etch the metal but strong enough to get everything out. That is what I do when stripping motorcycle frames for rebuilds. Or you could use crushed walnut shells as well. Same principle but just a bit of a harder abrasive.
Yal should sell pieces off of it to fund this build lil extra cash never hurt, also I agree with him lotta ppl would say just buy a better car less issues lol he’ll last episode I said the same but then I realized …it’s the journey from junk to beauty, hell I’m doing a awd k build on my Integra so I can understand the drive he has lotta money spent could of went else where but it’s our car junkie in us that keeps us going
I often used to do Citric acid bath to clean, removed corrosion and decontaminate old carbs or old alloy motor parts, that works very good when you just heat thé bath a little, way better than ultrasonic bath. A ground swimming pool ( you know those with métal frame), water and Citric acid in powder could make a DIY solution...
keep up the good work, i know your videos are not getting the most views but i can sure to you that when you get to the point of putting this piece of art back together that the views will come and people will start to give some respect and yeah to be honest the editing in these videos is not the best but on another hand that makes it show how much it takes to do something like this also i think i like to watch this kinda videos "raw" so almost nothing is cut away or hidden from the project. i really hope i get to do something like this of my own some day.
I wonder if you could use some vibration process to dislodge stuff, and then some combo of sucking, blowing, and rinsing to then remove it? Either way, great progress.
I built a simple jig for my jeep and flipped it to the side and it was thousand time easier, I took a stock plate with hole in them and I bolted it to the under body and from the inside I bolted it to the seatbelt bolts to balance it and I welded the plates to stock steel making it square connected to all the plates and flipped it on its side and it was easy and simple and cheap and extremely effective and helpful , not just the cleaning but also the under body protection spray and reworking the issues and welding the stuck broken bolts and fixing the threads on its side instead of upside down, can share a pic if you want to see “in private”
Tavarish used the dry ice blaster on the carbon fiber and aluminum on the billion dollar McLaren build, that might be a a good choice, you might send the company a requuest they might want ot sponsor the cleaning... something to think about.
A few companies have warned against dry ice blasting aluminum unibodies (as opposed to just underbody and individual components)... jury is still out as we can't be "wrong". So we will conduct tests first on small parts.
It would be very cool if you shoot a slow video in 4k for us this body in white shape the comunity can do a photogrammetry and generate a 3d model. very useful for game mods!! 🤓🤓🤓
Sad you decided to try to restore this NSX. You had a golden perfect opportunity to build a true MAD MAX NSX with how worn and deteriorated it was. Could have built offroad AWD suspension and drivetrain and put in a massive mad max like engine in the back with roll cages and bars all around it!
@@helixautoworks is it as grimy and worn out as the flood nsx? I feel that natural deterioration would have given it the perfect look as a MAD MAX build lol
Because there is dirt literally everywhere. Each piece pulled off of the car reveals more dirt and seashells... I think we lost count of how many power wash cycles we've done.
MF elemental NSX it’s got earth, water from the lake, fire from the burnt one, and I don’t know if there’s gonna be turbo in it but that would be air 😂
I'd personally ice blast this chassis.... the alternative option of chemical dipping is too severe, considering the aluminium has been submerged under water for 16yrs.
Contact people whom restore old aircraft like the fighters that been in the ocean . There's a place in New Zealand and the USA and no doubt in Europe, they will be able to help with chemical stripping advice.
The only series I’m watching here on TH-cam!
I love seeing the stages of restoring this thing, such a crazy thing to take up, reminds me pf the guy that rebuilt a burnt hellcat
I didn’t think it was worth it in the beginning but seeing the bare shell makes think it’s possible to save this thing.
💪💪

I can definitely see a tubular front and rear engine frame in the possible future.

"power of the process" I like that, thank you.
Alright guys you worked so hard, time to weld this NSX now.
This is way more interesting and challenging than Tavarish's flooded P1. Will stay locked in for this one 👊🏾
Can’t wait to see the work on the fireNSX 🙌🏽
Honda needs to see this
Can’t wait for the next episode

Nobody cares for your junk honda car.
This car was underwater for 20 years and it still looks better then cars anyone from the east coast daily drives
😄
Mechanical is straight forward. What are your plans for the electrical system restoration?👍
Thats easy. Replace everything lol
They have a donor car that will give them the vast majority of parts needed
ultrasonic cleaner for sure
If you replace every part on the car, is it still the same car?
Hope to see episode 11 soon?
Will this be a salvage title

Fye 🔥🔥
When are we seeing the strip down of the engine?
When you finally get this done, please get a custom plate that says "LODO".
Yes! This is the perfect license plate!
Dry ice cleaning/blasting is what you need to do in order to truly clean it and get the staining out
Need those dry ice treatments bro. It will shoo away the mud
Sand blasting could work?
Epic work!!!! This deffo needs to go on a spit , shake it down get all the mud out and start the reprocess of building it
How available are part for this car ?
can you already tell if the engine is still save able or is it already hydro locked?
bro the car was 16 years underwater, what do you expect?
Make sure to clean out the acid, it can be a problem sometimes.

neighbours must be like "damn another power washing? they gonna use all the water of the planet on this car" hahaha but it is satisfying to watch
It was worse when the shop only had tyvek wrap... the siding and doors bring it all together...
I haven't watch the whole saga, but I'd assume this car will be used as a shell and a totalled NSX will be used as donor to complete this build?
Все единороги 🦄 должны жить !!!
The more and more i look at this wreck The same question always come back to my mind... IS IT REALLY WORTH IT???????????????????????????????????

Basically, you are supposed to have everything Anodized.
Do it in black, it is how it was done from factory
This car must be called Phoenix. Because it is made of ashes and will be built with cars that destroyed two elements, water and fire ;)
Could get it dry ice blasted?
I keep thinking you're going to have to replace every part.
dry ice blasting
I think you need stronger washer with turbo nozzle 😅 and maybe than open few pockets and sand blast whole thing with some professional

dustless blasting....mixture of crushed glass and water .
I would start sand blasting it slowly
Keep rust to a minimal at all cost
Two episode 9s
Why wouldn't it be possible to chemical dip the car? They do it with aluminium wheels.
How's the build going?
Electric power washers aren't nearly as effective as the gas powered ones. I've seen dry ice blasting work miracles on metals.
She's gotta look worse before she looks better. Slow progress. Keep it up gentlemen
