UPDATE**** I really appreciate all of the interaction on the video and hopefully I have helped out a few people. As an update, I actually got the line again on my Z fold 3 replacement from this video after about a year and a half. They sent me a Z Fold 5 for my second replacement!! I can't stress enough buy INSURANCE!!
Totally agree. Mine lasted 6 months before developing a vertical line of dead pixels along the crease, and the warranty claim process hasn't been straightforward so far.
So I purchased the Z fold 3 just under a year ago, last week it developed the "Black line of Death". Why isn't there more discussion about this which is a massive design flaw in this model which should be highlighted resulting in a recall? On purchase the instructions and guidance state not to remove the inner screen protector BUT over time the material used becomes brittle and starts damaging the inner screen when pressed resulting in bubbling and eventual screen damage. The inner right-hand screen then ceases to respond to touch. This is a known issue that isn't but should be discussed and highlighted to protect potential buyers.
If Samsung warranty was great this wouldn't be that big of an issue. But my experience with my warranty claim after 6 months with my Z Fold 4 and a vertical line of dead pixels has been horrible so far. They seem to aggressively push customers into paying for repairs.
Same problem here . 15 months . How come they dont take it under their warranty. It is obviously samsung fault. If there is few phone happened like this. Maybe our fault or unlucky. But too many people has same problem around 13 months plus . It's definitely their problem . Please everyone be unite n challenge them. We need someone know how to take legal action against them .
I have the same problem and I support your idea. we all need to complain to samsung together. each of us spent more or less than $2000 to buy these phones. A year has not yet passed and these phones have already stopped working.
Its claimed under manufactuer defect, if its a common issue they should have a lawsuit commin or offer free screen fixxes (something like the nintendo controller drift case) , its currently $550 to fix this w/o warrenty and if they tend to break after a year they might kno its good for that long n tryn to scam us to pay more for fixxn or insurance
I have always loves Samsung, and felt my Fold 3 was the best phone ever. I still owe $611 on it and got the black lines. They all popped out on the Fold 2, 3, and 4 at the same time which seems like a faulty update or a sneaky way of forcing you to get a new phone. I dont have a warranty or insurance. No I owe and cant even trade it in. I was 100% waiting for the Fold 5 and gettting it. I have been loyal since i got the Thunderbird the day 4G was released. This has me so pissed im looking at used S22 and considering the iphone after all these years. Yes the warranty is out, but stand behind your dam product. Samsung needs to step up and back the Fold users. Im going to make a video about it as well and wont consider the Fold again due to this. Thanks for screwing up my phone before its paid off and for taking away my trade in. I have a feeling im not alone on this.
Same issue after 15 months. I was thinking maybe a generic charger caused it. I had just bought one and charged my phone and boom! I have insurance...$250 deductible. Had about $700 left to pay it off. 🤷🏾♀️
Just as an update the local repair shop said that it would be about 540.00 USD to fix it. It's backed with a 1 year warranty. AT&T will let me trade it on, on the full trade in amount (800 usd), but to buy Fold 4 is 1800. For what? To have that phone another 13 months before it fails again? Surfing the web shows that this is a COMMON problem with this phone, and the failure is essentially the exact same. My last two phones (oneplus 1, and oneplus 6) have lasted me several years. I had the OP1 for almost four solid years, with numerous drops, without issue. The OP6 gave me a number of years but it had to get phased out for 5G. I love the dual screen for work, but now it makes me nervous for the amount of money for the lack of longevity of it.
i think exactly the same way... im thinking of going full Karen at a samsung store... we really get treated like sh1t for having bought such an extremely expensive item...
I have the 4..about a yr and half ..maybe less..amd it did this today..earlier today it was fine. Months ago I did hear like a creasing sound when opened..but thought that was normal wear n tear
My wife's 15 month old Z fold 3 5G did this EXACT SAME THING!!! Just called Samsung and they said.....oh no problem......we will "let" you trade that phone in on a new one....but the repair would be over 400 bucks. No thanks Samsung!!
The black line of death just happened to me a few hours ago! I do have insurance, thank goodness. My film also was bubbling up / peeling off on the edges- for quite a while now! I'm so glad to come across your video. It makes me feel better to know that it is a problem that has happened before.
@Vignesh-cl5he I don't know how to help you. We purchased the insurance when we bought the phone. But I have not gotten mine repaired yet. The deductible is high.
My wife and I got ours at the same time, mine did it after 18months, hers didn't. The only thing we do different is I keep mine open at 90deg a lot. I don't know if that's what causes it but it's the only thing I can think of because I am sure it puts a lot of stress on the screen. I had to pay 275 to get a replacement phone from ATT. I was always a note guy before this phone, think I will switch to the S23+ or whatever is the latest once I have this phone paid off.
I absolutely love this phone but I got the black line of death yesterday after only having the phone for 5 months! I took it to a phone repair store that explained to me that when the hinge where the phone folds gets out of whack it presses on the screen and causes the screen to crack from the inside. Because it's an LCD screen, the liquid starts to spread especially every time you open and close it. They can repair it and give you a new hinge with a screen but it costs $380 out of pocket. I highly suggest getting insurance on this phone because you can have it replaced and pay the deductible which is less than the repair. Come to find out that the warranty doesn't cover this because it's considered "physical damage" but with the insurance you can get a new phone. I say this also because while I was in the repair store, I was the 3rd person in there at the same time with the same phone with the same problem; therefore this problem is common with these phones. Thought this info would help!
This just had happened as z fold 4. Touch screen does work with anything but s pen now. Assurant was always a $99 deductible now it's $200 at least for this phone. I've literally got at least seven or eight phones through that service.... Now they want to verify everything???? All I did was open the phone up and it cracked no signs of any peeling or anything.
Same here. I contacted them. They said because it's out of warranty, l have to pay. I am going to raise awareness through all the means l can do customers know what they're getting into or think twice before buying.
Me too, i have a two mobiles Al it's a same problem and both have problem same time , we have to do something and force Samsung repair under warranty or replace the mobiles
i just returned mines to get it fixed but im doing a trade in as soon as there is a good offer. not worth risking it again i only had a year warranty with samsung
I've had the fold 3 since launch, dropped it many times still ain't got it. That being said I peeled away the plastic protector when it stated peeling away, lifting and bubbling up, that may have helped me somewhat. My brother got this line of death on his Fold 3 a few months ago. My outer screen is all busted up in the corners but still all touch still works, which is very surprising. Inner screen still going strong.
Happened to me just now. Just set a new background and showed it off to my mom and sister. Got in the car and laid it flat in the cupholder UNFOLDED. Got out of the car and the line was suddenly there. I know I'm not crazy and I didn't do anything weird because the people I showed it to were literally there to witness everything.
I had the same problem. It started with a little bubbles in the middle, then more bubbles, then black line of death after 13 months. However, I called Samsung and they were good about it since I'm only a month out of warranty. They fixed it but this is very common, my z fold 4 got the same issue.
This phones have rediculous price for quality. My phone was also start diyng from middle of inside screen. So I think problems can be in mechanical side, also samsung can do model without pwm.
I have exactly the same issue with my Fold 3, and the Black Line of Death looks like someone spilled black ink down on the crease and bleeding onto both sides of screen. Now, only the left side works. I got it when it was released in August 2021. I had to have the inner factory screen protector replace a year ago. Now, the inner screen is jumping around from different apps. The front screen, so far, is ok. I just ordered a Fold 5 thru my cellular provider T-Mobile.
Same thing with mine. Still have a year left $1000 owed. I've talked with Samsung. They help you as far as they can throw you. Lesson learned, get insurance.
Mine started today with a thick line, And I just found out my warranty went out last month which is just been a year old since I had the phone. Very disappointed with Samsung especially if they not takin responsible for their products.
Interesting how common this issue is at about 1 year. I've had mine phone for 13 months, notice plastic at bottom peeling up about 2 weeks ago and 3 days ago black line down center and flip screen does not work at all. Obviously, Samsung knows this is a problem and is simply refusing to acknowledge and provide a new replacement phone. I do have insurance but have to pay deductible. I still owe over $1000 dollars on installment plan. I'm not a happy camper!
Same story as yours, gave me 13 month of service, samsung put the blame on me which i took good care like my baby and phone longivity dies soonest. For the love of your HARD EARN MONEY WITH BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS, Pls for God Sake, do not buy fold phones, it wont last long. Use your common sense, dont believe marketing gimmics, they are going to ripped your wallet. I already black list samsung brand in my life, because of poor quality, poor longivity and poor customer service.
My Z Fold 4 screen died in a similar way after 6 months use. My vertical stripe down the crease is thinner and hasn't reached the bottom yet. Sometimes is purple. The guys at the Samsung store weren't helpful, since my phone is still under warranty and they tried to persuade me not to seek a warranty claim because of minor scratches on the aluminium corners far from the inner display.
Crap, so there’s no fix? I got mine free and it just happened a few days ago after having for just about a year. I noticed exactly the same thing, EXCEPT the right side of the phone stopped working-unless I use the pen. So there is NO fix?
You should always take off the screen protector. It happened to my fold 4, when samsung said just take off the screen protector. I did, and i have been using my fold 4 for 2 years.
Same here. One day it was fine, the next, it was an expensive paper weight. Shame on Samsung for knowingly allowing this on the market, at any price, let alone what they charge for this piece of crap...
Did you have phone insurance? That's ridiculous!! Maybe another company might let you trade or check with your phone provider. Also depending on how long you've had it. It should be under normal manufacturer warranty. Good luck
Same happen to me yesterday just worked fine few minutes before when i was on facetime with folks i have insurance idk if warranty still works as this is my second prob with defection other time screen blacked out im done with folds and pretty much samsung phones back to Apple i go 😅
This just happend to me this morn, its a referb from walmart. i woke up opened screen and it looked like this :( i called samsung an they say im in warrenty so they will have me send it and send me another free had phone for 8 months
😢 same issue I think it's from these dam new pants they don't make pants that look right but the pocket isn't big enough so it squashes the phone.. I'm pretty sure I still have warranty on my phone so it's getting sent back asap but it's also been about a year
That happened to me, i tried changing the screen protector, and that happened. apperently, there is a special tool for that, u less youndrkpped it, it is a sensitive area of the fold
just happened to me, noticed the screen protector had a bubble on it. so i took a credit card and squeezed the bubble out GENTLY. closed the screen and heard this loud crack and snap and opened it to see this.
Just happened to my z 3 today absolutely disgrace off samsung,, more likely some type of bug in the phone to crash after a certain time for you to buy another 1,,
Happened to me 2 days ago. I'm so angry Samsung still haven't took responsibility. I have not dropped my phone or placed it in water. I simply opened my phone and boom black line appeared and as of right now it's flickering green, white colors. This is a disgrace.
I am a fold lover I wold like to throw the z fold 4 in garbage. Make that shit a hashtag #blacklineofdeath because it happened literally on my fold 4 15 minutes ago
My Z Fold 3 phone was fine until TODAY (17 MONTHS after buying). I always kept only the original inside screen protector, then had to get a new one by having Geek Squad switch it out for me. Then, this employee at Verizon suggested I use the Liquid Screen Protector... and 2 weeks later, I get the Black Screen of Death. Did anyone run into the same problem or is it just me? The 2 regular screen protectors did NOT damage my phone, then I switch to this liquid stuff and this happened... is it just a coincidence?
Sometimes refurbished isn't that bad. It's not like they rebuilt the whole phone. Usually refurbished means something small was fixed but it is essentially brand new. I haven't had any issues with mine since I got it, especially for $100 deductible
UPDATE**** I really appreciate all of the interaction on the video and hopefully I have helped out a few people. As an update, I actually got the line again on my Z fold 3 replacement from this video after about a year and a half. They sent me a Z Fold 5 for my second replacement!! But the insurance should not account for faulty tech. You did nothing wrong and it went left.
hey is till have my warranty how much do u think they'll charge for replacement same thing happened to me I wanna cry
I would like to see some sort of class action lawsuit against Samsung for Z fold issues as this is happening to me as well!
We really need to do that urgently. Those are so expensive and they just wash their hands 😢😢😢😢
Totally agree. Mine lasted 6 months before developing a vertical line of dead pixels along the crease, and the warranty claim process hasn't been straightforward so far.
It's also the Flip tat has this black line of death.
Why? That's why there's insurance
Just woke up to this as well. Worked totally fine right before I went to sleep.

Have the same issue
Has anyone contacted News on our side to investigate this issue? There needs to be a recall on these phones.
Same problem here at just over a year!

I have that insurance company as well asourian (not sure how you spell it) and they're awful they sent me a refurbished phone as a replacement.
Sometimes refurbished isn't that bad. It's not like they rebuilt the whole phone. Usually refurbished means something small was fixed but it is essentially brand new. I haven't had any issues with mine since I got it, especially for $100 deductible
Happened to me today for my fold 4.
surely this is a fault bin the phone and they should replace free of cost
Same problem..... 11 month
Just happened to me at work
did you removed the screen protector?
The black line is under the screen
this happened to my moms phone a few minutes ago but it was a flip 4 or 3
Happened to me today
My phone is 10 days old same problem
Same issue after 1.5 years of purchase
