This is Andy Kindler at his Andy Kindlerest. He is so right when he says he had a great set and the audience had an off night!! I love Andy!

I thought he was bombing, but I learned a lot of tips on how to handle it professionally. It's very easy for a comedian to get negative with the audience when that happens. He did well.

Andy was one of the first people I opened for when I first got hired at Helium Comedy Club and I can say that this guy is one of nicest and most genuine down to earth people I've ever met. I think he's funny as shit too, what with all the hater comments?

They don’t get the meta level that his act has a lot of purposely corny jokes so he can make fun of himself. One of my favs of all time.

    Andy is sooooo good.
He's a completely unique comedian so when he's performing for an audience that doesn't know what to expect, there's always a buffer period they need to get through to understand what Marc Maron said about Andy Kindler, "the comedy is in the trying". And nobody tries as hard as Andy and he's such a pro at what he does.
You could see even though the audience wasn't laughing that much, they were right there with him the whole time. The opposite of love isn't hate, but disinterest, and he kept them engaged the entire time, as you could tell from the instant, unanimous applause at the end that can only occur when a room is completely in sync and getting their cues from the man on stage, regardless of how much they laughed.

I love that he said people on the Titanic got what they deserved, and the audience was just silent.

I have posted this on several of his videos, but I don't care...
On March 30, 2014 Andy was coming to Cleveland Hilarities Comedy Club.
It just so happened that was my son's 21st Birthday.
I managed to track down Andy's manager and asked if Andy could say "Happy Birthday" to my son.
The manager wasn't sure if Andy would.
But you know what? He did. He told the story of how I tracked down his manager and told my son "happy Birthday" and engaged him for several minutes"
After the show, dozens of people came up to me and told me , basically "That was awesome of you".
Yeah, that was a great night.

    • @TheLockon00
      @TheLockon00 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

He's definitely not for everyone. His humor is deliberately "bad" while he simultaneously mocks other people in the industry. Likewise he pokes fun at a lot of overdone comedy tropes while participating in them, like the "whiny Jew" shtick. A lot of his "bad" stuff is also pretty clever joke deconstructing.
I can see why his stuff rubs a lot of people the wrong way (purposefully), but I will just say that there's a reason why most comics hold Kindler in high regard.

My eyes are watering from laughing. This guy is just plain funny. But, on this night his audience is just not there, and he is STILL powering through. Everytime they don't laugh, I laugh harder. He gets louder on the punchline to try and remedy the sitch and it still doesn't work. I wish it would never stop. He is audience proof. Love Andy.

I am one of the thumbs up! I think he simply needs a little bit of standup stamina practice. The consistency in delivery faltered a bit and led to just a few timing errors such as being too quick with words in a couple spots, which understandably comes from his quick style! Its awesome to me but in those situations Andy needs to let the audience breath and process the full value of the line, which he absolutely nails during the jay leno bit and the audience is super receptive! The audience even opens up for rest of the set because of that.
I love this guy on Raymond, Home movies, etc where i thought he really shined through as a comedically strong and unique persona. I definitely see that here, but standup is a one take deal which takes a different skillset. You can see Ray Romano and Brad Garrett have that special-something in their delivery that standups have, and Andy definitely has it on ELR.
