- We built these chicken feeders 3 years ago and absolutely love them! They are easy to build and store weeks worth of food. The number of feeders you need depends on your flock size.

ABOUT US: We are Alex and Elaina, a couple in our 20s who are currently living on the 3-acre farm in southern Pennsylvania where Alex grew up. We have a garden, backyard chickens, and build or fix anything that we need to. We still work corporate day jobs, but are working to eventually leave the 9-5 lifestyle in favor of a self-built, debt-free, homestead on 6 acres nearby.

Or detachable but language is tough😂
beware that chickens do manage to pull a ton of grain out and that this feeder is basically a rat magnet.
My chickens will eat 5 days of food in 3 days...... and use metric mate.
We will probably try this version. It appears to be the best version of the PVC Feeders that I've seen. Thanks for sharing 😊
We’ve been really happy with the design! It’s easy to build and works well 👍🏻🥰
How do you prevent rodents from getting in?
I love this ima make it tomarrow❤
I’ve tried this sort of feeder but it makes a mess and rats get in it
With the gutter adapter on the end the chickens can't rake the feed out. We have never had a rodent issue
Very cool! And the cat is awesome.
Kodak is the best! He always likes to be part of the action. He especially loves hanging out with me in the garden (although sometimes he tries to roll on my plants 😅) - Elaina

New to raising chickens, got everything but the chickens ready to go. This feeder seems like the best idea from all the other possibilities I've looked at. Thank you for the idea, especially the drainage adaptor to keep feed from spilling out by chicken scratch. Built 2 last night. My only issue was finding the thin 4" pipe and accompanying fittings. Spent 4 hours going all over town from Home Depot to irrigation specialty shops. Ended up finding everything in stock at the Ace Hardware right down the street. Material to make 2 feeders was $84. Thank you. Appreciated the video.
This worked great! It did seem like the feed was too far in there for them to get at so I just removed the gutter adapter piece. Maybe the type of feed I use doesn't trickle down as far. Thanks!

Metriiiiiiiiiiiiiiic pleaaaaase.
Very clever! I love the gutter adapter idea!
Works great for keeping spillage down 👌🏼
Thanks for sharing, it sure beats having to feed the girls on a daily basis. Thanks again.
Great idea! Id just like to make a suggestion. I'm a plumber and have worked with ALOT of PVC. You could probably get away with not even gluing the fittings. Just push the fittings on as tight as you can and i challenge you to take them back apart. I usually only work with schedule 40 though . that glue and primer can get nasty and smell for a long time.
Thank you! Our first iteration didn’t use glue and moisture can wick through the joint and makes the food moldy at the bottom
I like that you used the 45 deg elbow "upstream" and the 90 deg at the mouth, which seems like it would facilitate feed to flow down to the bottom. Most examples I've seen do the opposite.
Yeah this layout helps the flow for sure. By the time it reaches the sharp 90, it's at a spot where the chickens can reach in and pull it out
This looks like a great idea. Going to make some. I couldn’t find the link for the feed. I love Scratch and Peck feed that’s all I’ve given my girls.

how's this work with water?
Well. I made this out of 2in pipe and the food doesn't keep coming down. Like it's to light
Yeah there would be more friction there compared to the weight of the food. The 4” works well!
Sharing!
Looks like good set up. Thanks
Where does one buy thin-wall pvc pipe?
Ours came from Lowe’s!
How about rain , since its facing up ? Or you have it in rain proof area ?
The ends of the 'J' falls under our coop so ours stay clear of rain. We recommend this setup if you have something raised you can mount them to!
It says it can't find the page for the J feeder.
Sorry! I fixed it!!
Great project indeed. New friend here!
Thank you!! Super easy project that takes a ton of work off of any chicken keeper.
Any isues with rats or mice?
Nope! They probably do come and go as often as they would with any other feeder, there hasn't been any noticeable issue.
So what I've seen of the food you're using is its only available for wholesale customers...I don't have retailers near me that carry a full line either. I was looking forward to trying it! Thanks for the plans though.
You can order it online! We have a link in the description and a discount code 🙂 The code is "masondixon15"
