Religious Zealot Worker REJECTS Sale Of Condoms To Female Customer

  • A married woman was refused by a religious Walgreens employee from purchasing a box of condoms, saying that the sale goes against their religious beliefs. If that wasn’t startling enough, Walgreens sided with the employee, saying that there’s a company policy that protects employees from “completing a transaction to which they have a moral objection." Ana Kasparian discusses on The Young Turks. Watch LIVE weekdays 6-8 pm ET. th-cam.com/users/theyoungturkslive

    "A woman named Jessica Pentz has shared her story of an employee of a Walgreens drugstore refusing to sell her a box of condoms. The employee told her that selling condoms was against his religious beliefs.
    In response, a Walgreens spokesperson said that its employees are allowed to “step away from completing a transaction to which they have a moral objection.” The company’s policy has troubling implications considering that the U.S. Supreme Court may soon reconsider its decision guaranteeing people’s rights to contraception.
    While vacationing in Wisconsin with her husband, Pentz realized she left her oral contraceptives at home, she told the Star Tribune. So she visited a Walgreens store in the city of Hayward to purchase condoms.
    When she arrived at the checkout register, a clerk named John told her, “I can’t sell those to you.” When she asked for clarification, the clerk allegedly replied, “We can sell that to you. But I will not, because of my faith.”"

He respected her but still didn't give up his own moral values......on the other hand this Karen bigot of a customer for upset because she couldn't force the employee to sell her an item because and was upset and trying to force her beliefs on him. Organized religion is about CONTROL. Nothing else.
      Here is how we KNOW the fundamentalist nutbag gets off on control. The fundamentalist nutbag could have simply told the customer, "I need to get a manager". But no! The fundamentalist nutbag HAD to express THEIR personal feelings about a customer, WHO THEY DO NOT KNOW, purchasing condoms. The fundamentalist nutbag made a big deal about the purchase.
      That is how we KNOW it is all about control. If the fundamentalist nutbag cannot literally stop a customer from purchasing condoms, they will attempt to SHAME customers for not being a part of whatever insane "religion" they practice. It's 100% about getting off on shame and judgement for the fundamentalist nutbag.

    Let's be clear: this is not a matter of the employee being unable to do their job, its a matter of them choosing to not do their job that they are able to do. Accommodations are made when someone does not have the physical capability otherwise, for example it is a reasonable accommodation to provide a step ladder to a shorter employee who is physically unable to reach the top shelf on their own. If you can do your job but choose not to, the reason doesn't matter, and it deserves termination not accommodation.

It had my "under no pretext," pride rainbows, Socialist Rifle Association, "trans rights will be guaranteed by gun rights if need be," etc patches all over the side (soft rifle case). I recorded the conversation on my phone once I realized what was going on. My buddy lived down the street. We put signs up in his yard "(Blank) Gun Shop refuses to sell to christians!" "(Blank) Gun Shop refuses to sell to Trump supporters!" "(Blank) Gun Shop refuses to sell to Republicans!" He threatened to sue me and my buddy. I explained to him that I had him on audio refusing to sell to me and that I could identify as any of those categories, nothing we were saying was untrue. Must have really been effecting his business because he kept harassing my buddy and tore the signs down. So he put up a camera and said he'd have the gun shop owner arrested if he did it again. Our price for taking the signs down was a free AR for both of us of our choice. About a month later he agreed to it. Bully these people. It works.

    • @jannacoyote4246
      @jannacoyote4246 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that’s true. However, I think Ana is saying that the woman being married simply makes it seem that much *more* illogical that a Christian cashier wouldn’t sell her the condoms, because most Christians believe that sex between two consenting adults who are married, to each other, is okay, whereas if they’re *not* married to each other, then they think it’s “immoral”. It’s the whole “sex outside of marriage” thing that most Christians claim they have a moral objection to. But, some Christians don’t believe in using *any* kind of birth control, at *any* time, even with one’s own spouse. So, maybe this cashier is Catholic, or one of the other anti-birth control forms of “Christianity”? Otherwise, his “moral objection” doesn’t make any sense. Not for most Christians anyway. For you & I, it doesn’t make any sense to refuse the sale either way. But, some “Christians” out there think it does. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Here's a thought: if you really have an objection to contraceptives, don't work at a store that carries them. It's worth considering: even if you don't ring up the item yourself, some portion of that sale (even if only a penny) will find its way into your paycheck.
    If your faith is so strong that you are going to be offended by the fact that people, even a married couple, are having sex purely for mutual pleasure and not for procreation, you need to be prepared to be offended every moment of every day for the rest of your life because somewhere out there there's always somebody getting some.
    Suppose this employee was working at B&N - would he be allowed to refuse to ring up a book on the teachings of Islam because they disagree with his own faith? Now let's flip it. Could a devout Muslim working at B&N refuse to ring up books on Christianity because they go against his faith?
    How about the clothing industry? A twenty-something girl goes into the store and picks out shorts that are so short her cheeks will hang out, and a top that's basically just a two- or three-inch wide band of fabric. Could a person refuse to sell that because it contributes to objectification of women and encourages impure thoughts.
    For some people, vegetarianism rises almost to the same level as a religion. Imagine going into a grocery store and having a cashier say "Oh, no, as a strict vegetarian, I'm not going to ring up these animal-based products."
    So, again, if you have an issue with the merchandise a store carries, fine, that's on you. But don't take a job in that store and refuse to ring up a customer because you object to it. When I first saw this, there were people demanding a boycott of Walgreens, which is an over-reaction. As much as I can understand managers wanting to accommodate religious views, they also need to think of customer satisfaction. People that need to worry about offending an employee with a religiously prohibited item will stop going to that store. Even customers who aren't impacted by that directly, but experience longer waits in line because of "reasonable accommodations" are probably going to start shopping elsewhere.

    • @jellybean6778
      @jellybean6778 ปีที่แล้ว

      A boycott is not an overreaction. Walgreens gives gads on money to republicans which supports the kind of backhanded tactics they have used to to put religious lunatics on the s CT, a s ct that is completely out of touch with the majority of Americans and which is heavily Catholic - not in the least representative of the American public, three of whom were nominated by a psychotic ex prez who didn't even get the popular vote, and who are now trying to impose their religious garbage of a century ago on the American public. A boycott is an important tool, here, a communication tool to communicate something strongly to Walgreens about its practices. There is power in numbers.
