- Back with another Tokyo Ghoul video. Breaking down Arima and Haise's relationsip. This video does serve as a bridge for me getting into Tokyo Ghoul Re: as I believe that Kaneki and Arima's father-son relationship, serves as a strong foundation to Kaneki's character in Tokyo Ghoul Re: and will allow me to have an easier time communicating certain things about him in future videos. 👍 Of course, Haise will be getting his own videos in the future but let's start with the man who created him.

Kaneki was a human who became a half ghoul
Arima was born as neither human or ghoul but being half of both
He’s the perfect and only person who could truly understand and mold Kaneki into who he was
Fantastic breakdown of the most underrated character in this series imo. I'm always surprised at the lack of mentioning Arima when discussing and cutting into chars among other TG fans despite him being arguably my #1. There's so much beauty in the tragedy of Arima and a lot that goes on underneath the surface, excellent vid dawg.
I don’t think it’s that surprising, because the writing behind Arima is kinda weird and a bit sh1tty. Ishida spent a lot of time in the first manga establishing that the main condition for somebody to be the OEK is that they should have a single Kakugan - hence the “one-eyed” bit. He then revealed Arima as the OEK, even though Arima doesn’t even have a single Kakugan. 🤦♂️ The revelation that Arima was the OEK also means that we’re supposed to just accept that Arima was somehow the KING and REAPER of ghouls at the same time (literally killing thousands of his errr… subjects?). 🤷♂️ Some of the people who exclude him might also dislike him due to his horrific abuse and manipulation of Kaneki. On top of that, some people might lose respect for Arima when comparing his actions with the actions of Furuta, because both of them were handed a pretty sh1tty fate, but at least Furuta had the balls to lash out against the people who handed him that fate. Arima seems to have spent his entire life hurting and killing everybody APART from the people who handed him that fate. Then he died as the CCG’s favourite lapdog, but not before manipulating a young guy with a history of brain-damage and severe mental-illness - and who spent most of his life living as a HUMAN - into becoming the new King of ghouls, which as we know didn’t turn out so great. 😬

I love the relationship between Haise/Kaneki and Arima. It is so well done and beautiful, it feels so real. Every character felt like they had their own reasons for living, and so on, it shows the beauty of Tokyo Ghoul. These TG videos will always feel like a gift, I would watch your JJK videos too Hundred not up to date yet. Been doing other stuff and didn't get back to JJK.
Where’s the beauty in it? Arima stabbed Kaneki through his head, dragged his half-dead body away by his hair, locked him up in Cochlea, lied to him about all of his friends being dead to psychologically break him, and then took advantage of his memory loss to manipulate him into accepting a new identity. Even if you ignore all the awful stuff he did to turn Kaneki into Haise, you’re still left with the fact that he groomed him for the role of the OEK, despite the fact that taking that role would eventually pit Kaneki/Haise against all of his new friends in the CCG. Arima treated Kaneki as an extension of himself and his own goals, which is exactly how narcissistic parents treat their children. There’s no beauty in that.

@@dusan7696 Arima didn’t really help Kaneki overcome his problems though. Kaneki accepted Arima’s abuse and blatant manipulation of him, but that was only because he was desperate for a father figure. It’s kinda sad that Kaneki was so desperate for a father figure that he was willing to accept somebody who abused him, lied to him and manipulated him into accepting a role he never asked for. A proper father-figure would have recognised that Kaneki was far from being mentally-stable enough to take on the role as the OEK, but Arima was just desperate to mould Kaneki into a successor, which I assume was just some sort of coping mechanism he developed to deal with his significantly reduced lifespan. The two characters who really helped and supported Kaneki without any selfish intentions were Hide and Touka. Although I think it’s possible that Kaneki’s relationship with Arima could have had some positive impact on him, but any possible positive impact was never really explored or shown, unfortunately.

@@adampenbrook5751 Ah true, it has been some time since I read part 2 Re, I always liked Hide and Touka's conversations with Kaneki. Felt like they always wanted to understand and help him better. My bad for misunderstanding.
I wish the anime would have highlighted the details of their relationship more closely, but then again that can be said with many parts of this story lol. It's just so good. Another amazing video, great job man!

I'd personally love you to bisect the character of Takizawa Seidou, he is such a cool characters with a bunch of parallels to Kaneki.
I personally view Takizawa as a "lesser" version of our main character. In fact, he is also kind of "worse" than both Akira and Amon, yet he still survives through the whole series.
I could go over Seido in the future once I finish up with all of Kaneki's videos

Three minutes into the video so not sure if you mention it later but Haise also retains his tell for when he lies that he had as Kaneki. When he touches his chin whenever he lies.
I gotta save that for the big Haise into Kaneki video, I just went over Haise a little bit for people who didn't read the manga or probably never seen anything Tokyo Ghoul so they'd have an idea of what I'm talking about when I bring up Haise while talking about Arima 😅

i think putting him in special grade isn’t really a stretch. he clearly deals with special grade enemies with ease. even without a cursed technique, if he had cursed spirit glasses then his natural ghoul strength, durability, and speed would allow him to be high high first grade or special grade

i remember everytime they hunt ghoul, they have background check on the ghoul past, arima trust kaneki because he read the file on his background (it might be from young kaneki) and it is also the reason why he destroy kaneki brain to force him suppress the memory..

Thanks for the video. To be honest I didn't really understand what Arima meant to Kaneki in a absurd way. He was just the CCG's heavy hiter and a link to humanoid ghouls.

Arima, he's my favourite character in all of fiction, I've been attached and obsessed with him for years. And I'm not shy to say I love him. He's the most beautiful, most complex person I've ever come across. I thank him for everything that he's done. He's the crucial part of Kaneki's life, otherwise, it wouldn't have ever been possible to pull thorough it. I used to spend days and months and years analysing every single action and words of him. I will always adore him. Goodness, I need to stop or I'll lose control
I think I’m the only Tokyo Ghoul fan who dislikes Arima lmao. The guy is an @ss who gave himself the title of the OEK (despite not having a single Kakugan), whilst simultaneously spending his life slaughtering thousands of ghouls. He then took advantage of Kaneki’s memory loss to manipulate him into accepting a new identity. @@dwayneasher6765 Thanks! Although I wouldn’t make a very popular TH-camr with that opinion (lol), because Arima is a fan favourite amongst Tokyo Ghoul fans. Apparently being kinda badass and cool is enough to make most people completely ignore how awful he is, and also ignore some of weird and crappy writing surrounding his character. 🤷♂️ Thanks though.

Great video however one thing which you got wrong kaneki just has 2 personalities not 3 not 4 not 5 but 2 its just kaneki and haise. Kaneki and haise have different itteration. White haired kaneki is just kaneki who has had development no different personality. Black reaper is just haise who has kanekis memories but doesnt know what to do with it yet
