Omg thank you so much! I'm doing a blanket and everytime I cast on for a blanket I'm always having to do a very very very long tail just so I could have enough stitches on my needles this Cuts back my wasted yarn.
This is how I was shown how to cast on as a child. I didn't know anyone else would cast on in this way and thought I'd got it wrong all these years especially when I've seen other more complicated methods. It's nice to know it's a correct method 😆 thank you. It brought back memories of my Nan.
This was the very first cast on I learned many many moons ago - this is good to use when you have to cast on extra stitches in the middle of a project.
Oh my gosh!!! Decades ago at the age of 7 I taught myself how to knit & crochet. This is the cast on I taught myself! Just use ur index finger pull thru. Never knew it had a name. I still don’t know how to do a long tail cast on. I can do cable cast on and knit cast ons
I'm so glad I found this!!! I'm learning to Knit and I wanted to do a blanket that's a 100+ cast on. I was having a heck of a time, until this! Thank you so Much
I used this cast on when I knitted with the pompom yarn It was near on impossible to do it the way I used to do it . Nice to know it works on other yarns 😊💕Thankyou.x
So glad to see you're doing knitting videos too!!!!! I am trying to teach myself to knit and not having much luck with it. Can you please send me the links to any other beginner knitting videos you have as I would really like to see them.I am subscribed to your channel but I must be blind as I haven't noticed too many knitting tutorials for beginners.
Thanks for doing this Spider. I think my two favorite cast ons are the long tail cast on, and the thumb cast on. The thumb is very similar to this one. Am definitely going to use this one, thanks again!
This was much easier than how another person did it. I just wanted to make a swatch real quick and while I like the long tail, sometimes my fingers don't.
this is the way I originally learned how to cast on when I was a child, but whenever I use it the gap between the cast ons (3:03) keeps growing, which isn't a problem when I'm only doing a few casts, but it grows into a problem when I have to make something wide, effectively making a very long tail in the end. Anyone know if this is supposed to happen or if I'm just doing it wrong?
The needle size is dictated by your yarn weight, and the tension of your stitching. Usually I use a worsted weight of 4 yarn, and I tend to knit tightly, so I usually use about a size 10 needle. Going smaller than a size 8 can get fiddly. I would say experiment and see what works best for you. The same methodology can be applied to crochet and the hook size.
First off, this was the cast on stitch I was looking for. I had two problems I could never figure out what, and you were working from because in your video, you couldn’t see the ends of your yarn, as a beginner. This could be extremely confusing to someone. number two once the cast on was complete, and I personally would’ve mentioned the fact that being careful not to make the cast on to try it a bigger deal than you did is important when you go to “Knit “ off the stitch ….. I would take more time explaining that there will be this quarter inch length of yarn between the two stitches. I kept thinking I was doing it wrong until I finally caught your video doing it quickly once. You barely mentioned this issue. What I wound up doing was having to watch the whole video again from start to finish, then I realized that it was OK to have that yarn gap between stitches and that the first row of knitting off must be done slowly and carefully if you want it to not split. I’ll teach something else and I’m sorry you could’ve done much better at explaining all of this…
This is great. I noticed that you don’t respond to your viewer comments. It would be nice if just expressed your appreciation to them. After all, they are why your channel is a success.
His channel is a success because he is a great instructor and his positivity is amazing. He has stated on several occasions that he has a day job (TH-cam pays practically nothing), so he pays for the yarn (out of his own pocket), does the projects, films, edits and uploads the tutorials for essentially FREE. There is only 24 hours in a day. He thanks his viewers in every video. He owes us nothing.
Thank you, Susan, and Tiziana. 😊 I do try to respond to as many comments as I can, especially when help or advice is needed. There are only so many hours in the day, but my appreciation has no limits, and so I do thank you 😉🕸☕
when I comment on a video, it is for the author of the video. Not to achieve acknowledgment. If the author reads my comment, I am all the happier for it. I have learned a tremendous amount from spider fiber :-))
Where have you been all of my knitting years? I love this! Thanks!

I've been knitting for over 10 years, and I don't ever remember being shown this cast on before. Thank you.

I adore you and your videos! You have seen me through COVID lockdown! Please keep the beauty of your work coming in these fabulous videos!

At first, I thought that your original knitting tutorial was so hard. But when I clicked on this video, I was SOO wrong when I tried this.

gayla reinkens
It is the thumb cast on or "e" loop as it was taught to me. And you shouldn't have it too snug on the needle.
Best short tail cast on video ever!
This was much easier than how another person did it. I just wanted to make a swatch real quick and while I like the long tail, sometimes my fingers don't.
I really want to learn to knit...I will use your videos to try and learn!!
This is genius! Thank you!
This will save me so much yarn 🤩
I see your method and I can't understand how long tail casting on is so prevalent. This has no guess work. So much easier
Another new one. I use the knitted cast on. When I get to knit once more then I will try this one
Thanks now I can start to knit
Seems like it is a little tighter, maybe a bit more awkward to start second row, but cuts down on the waste and better for a variegated yarn.
Otherwise known as halfhitches :-) thanks for sharing.
Thank you for making that lesson so fun and easy
Omg and I always had the big gap in the middle and always assumed I was doing it wrong!
MyMom always casted on in this manner that is what she taught me
Have you ever knitted socks on knitting needles I’m trying to learn how to lift socks on circular needles or straight needles
This is how I learned to cast on and I forgot how and watching long tail was really confusing because it didn’t seem right 😂
Ive seen this, or something similar but with another name. Maybe Cabled cast on? Good to be reminded of it
it's also called an 'e' cast on, since it looks like the letter 'e'. Cabled cast on is totally different than this

Can you pick up a dropped cast on stitch with this method? I was doing the knitting off and one slid off the needle 😢
Thanks for vid will try
Please teach us how to knit socks!
Hhhmmmm.....a new skill to learn 😀
Hi I’m new at knitting. Which size needle is best for beginners? Thank you Joanna

@@FiberSpider great thank you! Your the best!
My best friend mother thought me do that way and I only do it that way.
great
