  • Desert Dream demo (1993) by Kefrens. First hidden part included. Music by Laxity & Dice. This upload is intended for headphones only.
    Desert Dream is well covered in TH-cam, including a VGA grab directly from an Amiga 600 RGB output by elianda:
    • Desert Dream by Kefren...
    Therefore i used Dolby Headphone to make my upload a bit different. Ralf Ostertag's 1084 monitor bezel image for WinUAE is also used (because it's just that awesome).
    WinUAE's PAL (50fps) output was converted to 30fps using linear blend frame interpolation. At the expense of little bit of ghosting in faster moving stuff, you get steadier perceived motion. With simple brute conversion to 30fps you would get rather annoying periodic jerks, which are caused by WinUAE's 50fps output not being a multiple of 30.
    And once again i have to point out that TH-cam's player always, ALWAYS creates additional jerks during playback. Downloading the video and watching it by other means provides better experience. Firefox addon called UnPlug has worked nicely for me.
    A remake for C64 with stereo Dolby sound can be watched here:

    What you are seeing in this video is a still image created by Ralf Ostertag. It's meant to be used with WinUAE emulator for better immersion. Apparently it works extremely well if people mistake it for a real one :D

    I was a part of kefrens back then, and made my part for this particular demo. 20 years later, watching this HQ video really brings back memories of a happy time.

    The best (among others) demo releases for the Commodore Amiga!!! That sound... truly awesome!
    Amiga ruled back then and I cannot imagine how computer industry could be today if Commodore avoided bankruptcy... They simply delivered evolutionally chips (J Minner and his team...)
    Still own my miggy (A500) with a copy of this demo.
    Great video man, and I'm really impressed by the graphics (1084 etc) you've made to host the demo!

      That Brazilian football player who wanted to invest one million dollar to keep Commodore alive got shot dead before he could do that. Coincidence ? Or was it Bill ?

    Oh man, I remember watching this with my older brother all those 30 years ago! This was pure tech-sorcery, and though the graphical marvels they pulled off have long since been surpassed, Laxity's music is still just as fresh as it was then! It's a marvel, an absolute marvel, of a demo!

    This arpeggio in 2nd track (right after the melon exploded) is soooo awesome!!!
    Desert Dream is my all-time favorite demo and the reason why I joined the demoscene back in the days.

    As a side note: i don't know why it's called 1084x. Perhaps artistic freedom in effect. X-model probably don't exist for real.

    Hi... I really like your monitor... As I can see...it says 1084x... What is the difference of 1084s??? I am looking to buy a retro monitor for my Amiga. Thanks in advance for answering

    I am pretty sure that had the Amiga survived, even in its 8Mhz form it could have done some impressive 3D graphics, given its graphics specifications. But just when this area was starting to be explored, the consoles (Playstation 1, Sega Saturn) with good 3D graphics came on the scene and diverted attention and interest away from the Amiga.

    • @SerBallister
      @SerBallister 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Problem for the Amiga was its custom hardware was almost no help for 3d texture mapping, it had to be done almost entirely using the CPU. I developed on both Amiga and Playstation 1, thee PS1 absolutely blew away the amiga 1200 in terms of hardware.

    • @porcorosso81
      @porcorosso81 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SerBallister The PS1 could easily compete with Pentium class PC's in terms of 2D and 3D performance.
