Great to see another video from you. I love all the middle earth miniatures you do. No one else does videos quite like yours, the combination of kitbashing, painting and background stories are unique. I have the new Oathmark orcs on order and a third orc army will be my winter project.
Amazing vid man. I am still terrified of oils for the reasons you had. No idea how you managed to save them, they ended up looking incredible. Cheap brushes = best brushes. Love the talking heads too they gave me a good laugh.
Brush care ain´t no magic - you can use a simple soap for textiles for like 50 cent to give your brushs some good cleaning after using them and it will also strengthen the hairs. Please do not start using something as "one-way-use" just because its cheap. A little bit more sustainability does not hurt and you will even save some money. I know sustainability and the hobby do not have much in common, but I don´t think now is the time to go full: Just buy cheap and throw away! Regarding oil paints: odorless doesn´t mean harmless. Its the same mineral oil based thinner, featuring the same toxicity, just as the smelly ones! Do not use thinner in an closed, unventilated area! There are so many great tutorials on how to use oil paints and how to avoid the dangers of thinners, that I can´t stand another video saying "I used it and I got headaches and dizzy...". Take precautions if you use chemicals and make yourself familiar with their dangers and how to handle them prior to using them. Get your own information from the manufacturer and just don´t use something because someone told you it would be "less harmful"... I am sorry, but these two things were really killing the video for me and I couldn´t really follow your creative process at all, which is a shame, since your hobby journey is generally great! Please keep in mind for future videos: Awarness and caution don´t cost any money nor time in the long run and do also contribute to the enjoyment one can get from your videos.
So, oils are pretty easy to use, especially when doing washes. if you were going for a "wash" (as in just getting into the recesses), then by the look of it, your "wash" looks way too thick. To practice, grab a few junk models and prime them a light gray or white, then mix several different washes using different amounts of thinner and see what ratio gives you the outcome you're looking for.
If you need suggestions for other Orc kits are the Wargames Atlantic Orcs looking good if complemented with the Frostgrave Barbarians & Victrics Ancient Germans. Both Wargames Atlantic & Victrix are by the way releasing a set each of late Romans (the Wargames Atlantic one in scale armour) that can be used for your Arnor project. Fireforge Byzanties can also be used as Arnorians...
Yah I really want to get my hands on the wargames Atlantic kit, they look great. Plus there's that new oathmark one coming out too! As for the late Romans, yah the victrix ones look great! Super interested in those. With wargames atlantic, are they doing another one? I have their late romans and used them for the bulk of my Arthedanians, would be super interested if they were doing more
@@AndurzTalksHobbies Yeah, Wargames Atlantic is making a second set of armoured late Romans, this set wearing scale mail. (Unsure when it will be released tough.) Wargames Atlantics set of Goths can by the way serve double duty as as both barbarians straight out of the box & un-armoured Romans/Arnorians (if given roman heads & equipment).
@@AndurzTalksHobbies check the midwinter minis video, i could not get the good stuff at teh time due to covid. but i bought what i could in Australia at the time, but cheaper version to try out. It works a treat. so some times i do cheap super glue , then when done the matt medium, and wait next day. presto. no particles falling off.
Really enjoy the way you talk through your decisions, and the sense of both genuine experimentation *and* getting-it-done.
Thanks! And yah it's always a balance there :P
They came out fantastic, well done.
Thanks!

mirkwood colour pallet is basically oxidization so makes alot off sence
I have been doing real cheap matt medium as a watered down glue, so far great and rock hard.
That makes a lot of sense, may have to give it a shot.
